To test a website in another location, first identify which location signal it uses. Chrome DevTools can change the coordinates a browser reports through its Geolocation API; a proxy, VPN, or cloud testing service with an exit point in the target region changes the apparent source IP. These methods test different things, so use both when the implementation is unclear.
What “geolocation” means in a website test
A website may infer location from the visitor’s source IP, ask the browser for coordinates, use a location the visitor selects, or combine these signals. A browser coordinate override does not route requests through another country, and changing the source IP does not automatically change the coordinates returned by the browser’s Geolocation API. Chrome and BrowserStack document these as separate location-testing approaches (Chrome DevTools Sensors; BrowserStack IP Geolocation).
Start by checking the implementation or observing the site’s behavior: does it prompt for browser location, or does it change content immediately based on the network? If you cannot tell, test both signals independently and record which one produced the change.
Plan the locations and outcomes to test
Choose regions that matter to your users, then define the expected result for each. Useful checks include:
#1 Best Overall
- 【Five Gigabit Ports】1 Gigabit WAN Port plus 2 Gigabit WAN/LAN Ports plus 2 Gigabit LAN Port. Up to 3 WAN ports optimize bandwidth usage through one device.
- 【One USB WAN Port】Mobile broadband via 4G/3G modem is supported for WAN backup by connecting to the USB port. For complete list of compatible 4G/3G modems, please visit TP-Link website.
- 【Abundant Security Features】Advanced firewall policies, DoS defense, IP/MAC/URL filtering, speed test and more security functions protect your network and data.
- 【Highly Secure VPN】Supports up to 20× LAN-to-LAN IPsec, 16× OpenVPN, 16× L2TP, and 16× PPTP VPN connections.
- Security - SPI Firewall, VPN Pass through, FTP/H.323/PPTP/SIP/IPsec ALG, DoS Defence, Ping of Death and Local Management. Standards and Protocols IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3ab, IEEE 802.3x, IEEE 802.1q
- Language, currency, date, or time-zone presentation.
- Whether regional products, prices, or content appear.
- Redirects, blocked access, or eligibility messages.
- Consent prompts or other region-specific interface elements.
- For browser location requests, the permission prompt, successful location, and denied or unavailable-location fallback.
For each run, record the target location, the signal changed (IP or browser coordinates), tool and plan, browser or device, expected and actual result, and a screenshot or test log. This makes failures reproducible and avoids treating a page load as proof that regional behavior is correct.
Test browser-coordinate behavior in Chrome DevTools
Chrome DevTools Sensors lets you select preset locations, enter coordinates, or simulate an unavailable location. This is the appropriate starting point when the site requests coordinates through the browser’s Geolocation API; it does not change the network’s country (Chrome DevTools Sensors documentation).
- Open the page in Chrome and open DevTools (Windows/Linux:
Ctrl+Shift+I; macOS:Command+Option+I). - Open the DevTools command menu with
Ctrl+Shift+PorCommand+Shift+P, typeShow Sensors, and select it. Alternatively, open the DevTools more-tools menu and choose Sensors. - In the Sensors panel, use the Location control to choose a preset city, or choose the custom-location option and enter latitude and longitude.
- Reload the page or repeat the action that requests location. If prompted, grant permission and verify the site’s location-dependent behavior.
- Repeat with the location set to unavailable to check that denial or failure is handled clearly and does not leave the user stuck.
Use coordinates appropriate to the scenario you are testing. A preset city is convenient for a broad check; custom latitude and longitude are useful when a boundary, local service area, or precise map position matters. This emulation validates browser-side behavior, not the accuracy of a real user’s device location.

Test IP-based behavior from a target region
If the site relies on IP geolocation, the request must appear to originate from the target country or state. Use a proxy, VPN, or cloud browser/testing service with an exit location there, and confirm the selected location is active for the browser session. A normal VPN connection may be sufficient for a manual check; repeatable browser, device, or automated testing may call for a testing platform.
Vendor documentation describes different coverage and eligibility constraints. BrowserStack reports IP Geolocation addresses in 60+ countries and 30+ states, with availability depending on product and plan (BrowserStack documentation). WonderProxy reports proxy and VPN servers in 280 cities across 103 countries; this is the vendor’s stated coverage, not an independent measurement (WonderProxy documentation). Check each service’s current product and plan details before relying on a specific location.
After connecting, confirm the test session is using the intended endpoint, then check the same user-visible outcomes you expect from that region. Keep browser coordinates separate unless the test also needs to exercise the Geolocation API.

Choose a method for the test you need
| Method | What it changes | Best suited to | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome DevTools Sensors | Coordinates reported by the browser | Geolocation API prompts, location-dependent browser content, and unavailable-location fallbacks | Does not route network traffic through another country (Chrome). |
| Location-specific proxy or VPN | Apparent source IP | IP-based redirects, regional content, and access rules | Coverage and setup vary; browser coordinates remain a separate signal (WonderProxy). |
| Cloud browser or device testing | Test session’s network location, sometimes with browser or device context | Repeatable regional web or app checks and automation | Location choices can depend on product and plan (BrowserStack). |
| Cloudflare Radar URL Scanner location scan | Scan vantage point | Quick inspection of location-dependent presentation | Security Center location scanning is limited to Enterprise customers according to Cloudflare’s documentation; a scan is not a substitute for every interactive user workflow (Cloudflare documentation). |

Run a complete regional test
- List the countries, states, or cities your product serves and the behavior users should see in each.
- Identify whether the site reads IP location, browser coordinates, a user-selected location, or multiple signals.
- Change only the relevant signal for the first run; include a denied or unavailable case wherever browser permission is involved.
- Verify actual outcomes: language, currency, products or content, redirects, blocked content, and consent or eligibility UI.
- Repeat on the browsers, devices, and automation contexts your users rely on. Use a cloud service when regional coverage or repeatability is required.
- Save the location, signal, tool/plan, browser/device, result, and screenshot or log for each run.
Troubleshoot common failures
The page still shows the original country’s content
You may have changed browser coordinates when the site uses IP, or changed IP when it reads browser coordinates. Test the other signal separately. Also confirm the proxy, VPN, or cloud session is actually using the selected endpoint.

The site never asks for location
The page may not call the Geolocation API until a user action, or it may use IP-based location instead. Repeat the specific interaction that triggers the feature and inspect both signals if behavior remains uncertain.

Location permission is denied or the fallback looks broken
Use DevTools’ unavailable-location state to reproduce failure intentionally. Check that the site explains the problem and offers a usable alternative rather than assuming coordinates are always available.
A regional option is unavailable in the testing service
Coverage can be restricted by product or plan. Verify current eligibility in the vendor’s documentation, or use a different proxy, VPN, or cloud testing platform that offers the required country or state.
A URL scanner’s result differs from an interactive visit
A scanner provides a remote inspection vantage point, not necessarily the same browser state, permissions, session, or user actions as a real interactive test. Reproduce the workflow in a browser or cloud testing session before treating the difference as a site defect.

For a screenshot of a page from a URL, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API does not by itself make an IP-based regional test; use an appropriate regional endpoint when the site’s behavior depends on source IP. For a page capture, one GET request returns an image or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; these steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does changing a browser’s location change its IP address?
No. Browser coordinate emulation and network routing change separate location signals.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can a URL scanner replace testing the site as a user?
Not for every workflow. A scanner can inspect a remote view, but it may not reproduce interactive steps, permissions, or browser state.
