Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTrust a Rockstar announcement only after you can open the original post on rockstargames.com (or an official support page), see a publication date and Rockstar attribution, and find announcement-grade evidence such as a trailer, named platforms, a release target, or pre-order instructions. For major business or launch claims, confirm the same information in Take-Two Interactive’s investor-relations releases. Screenshots, reposts, insider posts, retailer listings and viral social messages remain rumors until one of those primary sources publishes or confirms them.
The fastest reliable test
When a new Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead, or other Rockstar claim appears, follow this order:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Open the original URL instead of relying on a screenshot, cropped image or repost.
- Check that the page is on
rockstargames.com,support.rockstargames.com,take2games.com, or an official Take-Two investor-relations page. - Record the date, headline, author or corporate label, and any update history.
- Look for concrete details: the game name, publisher, platforms, trailer or other asset, release timing, or a specific action such as pre-ordering.
- For a material release or business claim, look for a matching statement in Take-Two’s investor-relations archive.
- Classify everything else as a report or rumor, even when the source is an established insider or the post has millions of views.
This process separates confirmation from speculation without requiring a percentage estimate for “how often leaks are right.” Rockstar and Take-Two do not publish a reliable rumor-accuracy rate.

Which sources have authority?
Rockstar’s Newswire
The Rockstar Newswire is the primary stream for dated Rockstar announcements. A genuine post normally carries Rockstar’s branding, a clear publication date and enough detail for players to understand what is being announced. Treat the page itself—not a quote card or social summary—as the evidence.

Rockstar support pages
support.rockstargames.com is useful for operational information, including account, platform and pre-order guidance. Rockstar Support directs readers to the Newswire and the Rockstar Propaganda email newsletter for official Grand Theft Auto VI pre-order information. A support article can explain where to obtain information, but it should not be confused with a new game reveal unless it explicitly makes that announcement.
Take-Two Interactive investor relations
Take-Two identifies Rockstar as one of its principal publishing labels and maintains dated investor-relations press releases. These filings and releases are a second primary-source trail for major launches, sales milestones and corporate statements. They are especially valuable when a claim concerns a release window, fiscal outlook or business performance rather than a trailer.
Official social posts and newsletters
An official social account or email can alert you to a new item, but open the linked primary page before forwarding the claim. A post that merely says “watch this space” is not the same as a dated announcement with product details. Subscription alerts reduce the chance of missing an update; they do not replace checking the source page.

1. Open the original URL
Ask for the full link when someone sends an image or excerpt. Confirm the address bar shows an official Rockstar or Take-Two domain. Look for misspellings, extra subdomains, URL shorteners and pages that imitate a newsroom layout. A genuine-looking screenshot has no provenance until its underlying page can be opened.
2. Check the date and archive context
Rockstar’s Newswire is a dated stream, so compare the claimed date with the surrounding entries. An old target can be mistaken for a current promise when a post is resurfaced. Read later entries for delays, platform changes, trailer updates or revised wording. Preserve the original date when describing what was known at that time.

3. Identify who published it
Look for an attributable Rockstar author, a Rockstar label or a clearly identified Take-Two corporate release. Anonymous “staff” language, an unnamed source or a fan account is not equivalent. Attribution matters because it tells you who is responsible for the statement and whether it is an announcement, commentary or a repost.
4. Check for announcement-grade detail
Official releases usually identify the game and publisher and provide at least one concrete asset or action. Depending on the claim, that may be a trailer, named platforms, a release date or target, store instructions, or a pre-order path. Vague language about an “exciting project” cannot confirm a specific title or date.

For a major launch, release-window change, sales milestone or corporate statement, search Take-Two’s investor-relations releases for a matching date and wording. Two independent pages in the same official ecosystem are stronger evidence than a single social message. Lack of a matching investor release does not automatically disprove a small community update; it means the claim’s importance and scope should be judged carefully.
6. Separate confirmation from speculation
Trademark filings, job listings, data-mining discoveries, retailer entries and insider statements can point to a lead. None is an announcement by itself. Describe such material as a filing, listing, report or rumor until Rockstar or Take-Two publishes a confirming page. Even a genuine leaked asset does not establish a final release date, supported platform or marketing plan.
7. Resolve conflicts by date and scope
If two official statements differ, use the newest dated primary source for the current position and retain the older statement as historical context. A trailer may establish that a game exists while an investor presentation discusses a planning target. Those statements answer different questions. Investor commentary can include forward-looking caveats, so treat it as management’s view at that time—not a guarantee.

What makes an announcement convincing?
| Evidence | What it establishes | How to describe it |
|---|---|---|
| Dated Rockstar Newswire post with attribution | Rockstar has publicly stated the claim | Confirmed announcement, subject to later updates |
| Official trailer linked from the announcement | A publisher-backed asset exists and is associated with the named project | Confirmed trailer; do not infer unlisted features or dates |
| Named platforms in an official release | The listed editions are the platforms Rockstar announced at that time | Confirmed announced platforms; avoid adding others |
| Take-Two investor-relations release | Take-Two has made a dated corporate statement | Official corporate statement, with any forward-looking qualification |
| Trademark, job listing or retailer entry | A third party or administrative record exists | Lead or report, not confirmation |
| Insider post, screenshot or fan account | A person is circulating a claim | Unverified rumor until a primary source confirms it |
Specificity does not override provenance. A detailed fan-made graphic is still unconfirmed, while a short official notice can be authoritative if it clearly states what Rockstar is doing.
Case study: the December 4, 2023 Grand Theft Auto VI announcement
The December 4, 2023 release illustrates the standard. It named Grand Theft Auto VI, identified PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, gave a 2025 target, linked Trailer 1 and identified Rockstar as a Take-Two publishing label. Those elements let a reader verify the title, announced platforms, timing and supporting asset directly from an official page rather than infer them from a leak.
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, said: “Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” and added, “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.” The quotation is evidence of Rockstar’s stated vision, not a promise about every feature or a guarantee that the target date cannot change.
The same release reported more than 190 million Grand Theft Auto V units sold, more than 81 million Red Dead Redemption units sold worldwide and more than 410 million Rockstar Games units sold-in worldwide. Those figures were presented in the 2023 announcement and should not be repeated as current 2026 totals without a newer source. Sales numbers and release plans are separate claims: verify each against the dated statement that made it.
How to check a rumored release date
Distinguish a date from a target
“2025” in an official announcement is a target window, not the same as a day-and-date launch. A later Newswire post can narrow, move or replace it. Investor materials may repeat management’s plan while warning that forward-looking statements involve risks. Quote the wording and date instead of converting a target into certainty.

Look for platform scope
Only repeat platforms explicitly named by Rockstar or Take-Two. Do not add a PC, older console or cloud edition because a retailer lists it or because a previous game shipped there. Platform information can change, and an announcement may intentionally cover only the first planned editions.
Check for a purchase action
A pre-order button, store listing linked from an official page or support instructions can show that a purchase process has opened. It does not prove that every retailer’s date or price is genuine. Follow the official link and read the region, edition and cancellation terms before sharing details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to assess trailers, screenshots and “leaks”
Trailer claimed to be leaked
Check whether Rockstar has posted the same trailer or linked to it from the Newswire. Compare title cards, end slates and platform language, but treat visual similarity as supporting detail rather than proof. A leaked video can be altered, recycled from an older build or mislabeled. Until an official page confirms it, call it an alleged leak.
Screenshots and concept art
Reverse-image searches and metadata may help identify an image’s history, but they do not establish authorship. Ask whether Rockstar published it, whether the caption names a game and whether a dated page provides context. Fan art, mock-ups and interface recreations are common sources of false certainty.

Code strings can reveal internal names or test assets without proving that a feature will ship. Development plans change, and files can represent experiments. Report the finding as data-mined material and avoid presenting an internal label as a final title, mode or platform.

Common rumor patterns and the correct response
- “A retailer lists the release date.” Treat the listing as a retailer entry. Wait for Rockstar or Take-Two to publish the date.
- “An insider says the trailer is next week.” Identify the person’s claim and date, but label it unconfirmed until an official channel posts the trailer or schedule.
- “The screenshot has the Rockstar logo.” Logos are easy to copy. Verify the original page and attribution.
- “A trademark proves the next game.” A filing can protect a name or concept without confirming development, release timing or use in a product.
- “Everyone is reporting it.” Count primary sources, not repetitions. Many articles can trace back to one unsupported post.
- “Take-Two mentioned a launch in an earnings call.” Read the dated transcript or release and preserve any forward-looking language. It is an official statement of plans at that time, not an irrevocable commitment.
Use official alerts without losing verification discipline
Subscribe to Rockstar’s Propaganda email newsletter if you want alerts, and monitor the Newswire for the page those alerts reference. When an email contains a pre-order or trailer link, open the destination in a new tab and check its domain, date and details. Forward the primary page, not an email screenshot, so readers can inspect the same evidence.
A compact record for your own posts
Before publishing or sharing a claim, save the following:
- Exact page URL and domain.
- Headline, author or corporate label.
- Publication and update dates.
- Game name, platforms and release wording exactly as stated.
- Links or references to trailers, store actions or support instructions on that page.
- Any later official correction, delay or platform change.
- A clear label: confirmed announcement, official target, report, or rumor.
This record prevents an old target from being reposted as a new fact and makes it obvious which parts still require confirmation.
What “official” does—and does not—mean
An official page proves that Rockstar or Take-Two made a statement. It does not make every interpretation of that statement true. A named platform does not reveal unlisted performance features; a trailer does not guarantee a final feature set; and a target date can move. Keep the publisher’s exact scope, date and qualification attached to the claim.
The safest wording is precise: “Rockstar announced [game] for [listed platforms] with a [target/date] in its [dated] Newswire post.” If the only evidence is an insider, filing, listing or screenshot, say “reported,” “alleged” or “unconfirmed” and explain what would count as confirmation.
Bottom line: provenance beats virality
Start with the dated Rockstar Newswire page, verify attribution and concrete details, then corroborate major claims through Take-Two’s investor-relations releases. Use the newest official statement when plans conflict, preserve older dates as history, and keep every leak or third-party report clearly labeled until Rockstar or Take-Two confirms it. That method works for a new Grand Theft Auto, a Red Dead project, a trailer, a platform list or a release date without pretending that rumor accuracy can be measured by popularity.
