Use Chrome DevTools to capture the exact page state your report discusses: a viewport screenshot for what visitors first see, a full-size screenshot for the page layout, or a focused area or element when a detail must remain legible. Label each image with its URL, capture date, and desktop or mobile-emulation context. Firefox offers full-page and element capture too.
Choose a capture that supports the point in your report
A screenshot records how a page looked at a particular moment and in a particular browser state. Pick its scope based on the claim, not simply on which option is easiest to capture.

| Capture | Useful for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Visible viewport | Showing what a visitor sees on first arrival, such as a headline, offer, or above-the-fold layout. | It excludes content outside the current viewport. |
| Full page | Showing the page’s overall structure, including content below the viewport. | A tall image can make text and small interface details hard to read. |
| Selected area or element | Documenting a specific component or detail that would be too small in an overview. | Keep enough surrounding context for a client to understand where the detail appears. |
| Mobile emulation | Showing how the page renders at a mobile viewport in the browser. | Describe it as emulation, not as a capture from a physical phone. |

Capture a screenshot in Chrome DevTools
- Open the exact page URL you plan to discuss. Let the relevant content load, then note the URL and capture date for your report.
- Open Chrome DevTools and turn on device mode to access its screenshot controls.
- Open More options. Choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport or Capture a full size screenshot for the entire page. Chrome’s documentation says the full-size option includes content “that isn’t currently visible in the viewport.”
- For a focused capture, use the DevTools screenshot option for a selected node or area. For a mobile rendering, set the intended device or viewport in device mode before capturing.
- Open the saved image and check that the target content is present, readable, and framed with enough context. Add a caption recording the URL, date, and whether the view is desktop or mobile emulation.
Chrome’s mobile mode changes the viewport and user-agent string; it is useful for documenting a browser-rendered mobile layout, but it does not establish what happened on a particular physical handset. Chrome DevTools device mode

Make each image useful evidence in the report
- Caption the context. Include the page URL, capture date, and desktop or mobile-emulation state next to the image.
- Match scope to legibility. Use a full-page image for structure and a separate viewport, area, or element capture for details that need to be read.
- Do not overclaim. A screenshot can show appearance at capture time; by itself, it does not prove performance, conversion impact, accessibility, or usability.
- Review before sharing. Check for personal, account, or confidential information and follow the client’s and organization’s handling rules.
- Pair visual evidence with the right evidence. Use analytics for behavior or outcomes, and appropriate accessibility checks for accessibility claims.
Chrome notes that automated accessibility checks can identify some markup issues, but they do not establish whether someone can navigate with a keyboard or screen reader; that requires hands-on review. Chrome accessibility documentation

When browser screenshots are blocked or restricted
In managed Chrome Enterprise environments, administrators can configure screenshot prevention for selected sites. The documented policy applies to managed users and browsers with Chrome Enterprise Premium and covers keyboard shortcuts as well as capture apps and extensions. If capture is blocked, follow the organization’s policy or ask an administrator rather than trying to bypass it. Chrome Enterprise screenshot restrictions

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its capture flow accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result described by the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients.
For an API capture, replace the example URL with the page you need and use your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.

Does a screenshot show that a page is accessible?
