Capture a page with Selenium and headless Chrome
Install Selenium and ensure Chrome is available in the environment where your script runs. Selenium’s Chrome driver can manage the browser for you when you create it with webdriver.Chrome(); exact Chrome and ChromeDriver compatibility depends on the versions installed in your environment.

Replace https://example.com with the page you need to capture. The Selenium API documents save_screenshot(filename) as saving the current window to a PNG; it recommends a full path and a filename ending in .png. The method returns False if an I/O error occurs. Choose the capture dimensions
The --window-size=1365,900 argument sets a predictable browser window size for the capture. Adjust the width and height to match the layout you need. The documented save_screenshot() call captures the current window; it does not, by itself, promise an image of the entire scrollable page.

Wait for the page before capturing
A page may still be rendering content after navigation, especially when it loads data or web fonts asynchronously. If the screenshot is incomplete, wait for a page-specific condition, such as a known element appearing or the page’s own font-ready condition, before calling save_screenshot(). A fixed sleep is not a universal readiness guarantee.
Check Tamil text in the Chrome runtime
Tamil rendering depends on the fonts available to the operating system or container running Chrome. A font installed on your workstation may not be present in a CI runner or server container. No single installation command applies to every distribution, so check the actual runtime and its font configuration rather than assuming a particular package is available.
- Run Chrome in the same environment that will produce the final screenshots.
- Load a page containing representative Tamil text and wait for its content and fonts to finish loading.
- Save a test PNG and inspect it for missing-glyph boxes, blank characters, or unexpected font fallback.
- If the glyphs are missing or differ from the intended appearance, install or enable a Tamil-capable font in that runtime, then capture and inspect the test again.

Capture the full scrollable page
Do not treat driver.save_screenshot() as a full-page capture: it documents a current-window PNG. Capturing an entire scrollable document requires a separate technique; the method shown here does not implement one.

When to use Chrome’s screenshot command instead
For a one-off capture of a URL that does not need Selenium-driven interaction, Chrome’s headless command-line --screenshot option is an alternative. Chrome documents that it writes screenshot.png in the current working directory and that --window-size can control the viewport; its --timeout option bounds the wait before capture. This is Chrome CLI usage, not a Selenium WebDriver method. Use Selenium when your test or script must establish page state through browser automation before taking the image. Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
- No PNG appears: Use an absolute, writable output path, create its parent directory, confirm the filename ends in
.png, and check the boolean returned bysave_screenshot(). - The screenshot is blank or incomplete: Make sure navigation has completed and wait for the page-specific content or fonts needed in the image before capturing.
- Tamil characters appear as boxes or incorrectly shaped glyphs: Check for a Tamil-capable font in the actual Chrome runtime, not only on your development machine, then render and inspect a test image.
- The page is cropped: The call captures the current window. Set the intended window dimensions explicitly; it does not automatically capture the full scrollable page.
- Chrome does not start in headless mode: Confirm that Chrome is installed and that the Chrome and ChromeDriver versions are compatible in the environment where the script runs.
