Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet the browser viewport with cy.viewport(), wait until the page is in the state you want to capture, then call cy.screenshot(). Use { capture: 'viewport' } for the visible application area or { capture: 'fullPage' } for a top-to-bottom image. A Cypress viewport is useful for responsive-layout testing, but it does not reproduce every characteristic of a physical phone.
Set a mobile-sized viewport
Use cy.viewport(width, height) to set the application viewport dimensions in pixels. You can choose explicit dimensions that match a responsive breakpoint you want to test, or use one of Cypress’s named presets. The preset names are convenient viewport dimensions, not a guarantee that Cypress is emulating the corresponding phone’s hardware.

cy.viewport(375, 667)
// Or use a documented preset:
cy.viewport('iphone-6')
Examples from Cypress’s preset catalog include iphone-5 at 320 × 568, iphone-6 at 375 × 667, iphone-x at 375 × 812, and samsung-s10 at 360 × 760. For landscape, pass the orientation as the second argument; Cypress swaps the dimensions. For example, cy.viewport('iphone-6', 'landscape') sets 667 × 375. See the Cypress viewport API for the preset catalog and current command details.
Choose dimensions for the layout you need to exercise
If the goal is to check a CSS breakpoint, use explicit width and height values that put the page on the desired side of that breakpoint. A named preset can make a test easier to read, while explicit dimensions make the test’s target size unambiguous. The viewport dimensions are separate from device pixel ratio: Cypress states that devicePixelRatio is not simulated, so a viewport test is not complete physical-device emulation.

Write a test that captures the intended mobile state
Set the viewport before visiting the page, then assert that the application has reached the state you want to document. The following example assumes the application serves its home page at / and that a visible heading is an appropriate readiness check; replace that assertion with one that reflects your page.
describe('mobile layout', () => {
it('captures the mobile home page', () => {
cy.viewport(375, 667)
cy.visit('/')
cy.get('h1').should('be.visible')
cy.screenshot('mobile-home', { capture: 'viewport' })
})
})
Run the test in Cypress open mode or run mode. Manual cy.screenshot() calls work in both. Cypress’s screenshot command reference notes that capture is asynchronous—around 100 ms—and the page can change while the screenshot is being taken. Make the assertion specific enough to establish the application state before capture; do not assume that the screenshot freezes the page at the instant the command is issued.
Choose the screenshot area
The capture mode determines what appears in the image. For manual screenshots, Cypress documents fullPage as the default, so specify viewport when you only want the current visible application area.

| What you need | Command | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Visible application viewport | cy.screenshot('mobile-visible-area', { capture: 'viewport' }) |
The application content in the current viewport. |
| Entire page | cy.screenshot('mobile-full-page', { capture: 'fullPage' }) |
The application from top to bottom. |
| Browser viewport with Cypress runner | cy.screenshot('mobile-runner', { capture: 'runner' }) |
The browser viewport, including the Cypress Command Log, subject to Cypress’s documented Test Replay and failure-screenshot behavior. |
| A cropped portion of the viewport | cy.screenshot('mobile-crop', { capture: 'viewport', clip: { x: 0, y: 0, width: 375, height: 300 } }) |
The specified pixel rectangle of the capture. |
For an individual element, select it and call .screenshot() on the selection. Cypress also exposes screenshot callbacks for details such as the saved path and image dimensions; consult the Cypress screenshot API for callback and configuration behavior.
Set project defaults and find the output
Cypress’s configuration defaults are viewportWidth: 1000 and viewportHeight: 660. The default screenshot folder is cypress/screenshots. To make a project or suite start at a mobile size, configure the viewport defaults in the Cypress configuration or use test configuration for a suite or test. To change dimensions during a test, use cy.viewport(). Cypress resets the viewport to its configured default between tests.
Do not change viewport dimensions at runtime with Cypress.config(): starting in Cypress 16.0.0, setting viewportWidth or viewportHeight through that API during test execution throws. Use cy.viewport() or test configuration instead. The Cypress configuration reference and Cypress.config() reference cover the relevant settings and version boundary.

Manual screenshots are saved in the configured screenshot folder. Separately, Cypress captures failure screenshots during cypress run by default; it does not do so during cypress open. The screenshotOnRunFailure setting controls failure screenshots. These automatic failure captures are distinct from a manual cy.screenshot() call. See Cypress’s screenshots and videos guide for run-mode behavior.
Make captures repeatable for visual review
cy.screenshot() saves an image; it does not compare that image with a baseline. Cypress’s visual testing guide recommends generating and comparing images in the same environment with a fixed viewport. Operating systems, browser versions, display scaling, and installed fonts can all affect rendering, so hold those conditions steady when reviewing image differences.
- Keep the viewport dimensions consistent between baseline and candidate captures.
- Use an assertion to confirm the responsive state and content you intend to capture.
- Wait for the page to reach a stable state rather than capturing during a transition. Cypress screenshot defaults normally disable JavaScript timers and CSS animations during capture; those defaults can be customized.
- Use the same browser and execution environment for images you plan to compare.
Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
The image is desktop-sized or uses unexpected dimensions
Set cy.viewport() explicitly in the test before visiting the page. If using a named preset, check its documented dimensions and orientation. The Test Runner may visually scale its preview to fit the runner pane; that display scaling does not change the test’s configured viewport.

The screenshot shows the wrong application state
Put a state-specific assertion before the screenshot command—for example, a visible heading, loaded result, or open menu that the test requires. Because capture is asynchronous, issuing the screenshot command alone does not ensure that an in-progress UI change has finished.
The image includes the Cypress Command Log
Use { capture: 'viewport' } for the application’s visible area. The runner mode is the option that includes Cypress runner chrome.
The image stops before the bottom of the page
Use { capture: 'fullPage' } rather than viewport. The former captures the application from top to bottom; the latter is limited to the current viewport.

A runtime configuration change throws
On Cypress 16.0.0 and later, do not set viewportWidth or viewportHeight through Cypress.config() during test execution. Change the active viewport with cy.viewport(), or set a default through configuration.
The screenshot does not match a real phone exactly
A Cypress viewport sets browser viewport dimensions and orientation, but Cypress does not simulate devicePixelRatio. Treat the result as a responsive-layout test rather than a full reproduction of physical-device rendering.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot of a live URL rather than a Cypress test run, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a WebP screenshot of Stripe, add your API key and run:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot"
-d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY
--data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com
-o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot, with each cleanup step configurable. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed; response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
