On most current Samsung Galaxy phones, press and release the Side (or Power) key and Volume Down at the same time. For a long page, take a screenshot and tap Scroll capture in the toolbar that appears. You can find the saved image in Gallery, usually in Albums > Screenshots. Key combinations and optional features vary by model and software version.
Take a standard screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Briefly press and release the Side (or Power) key and Volume Down together.
- Look for the screen flash that confirms the capture. The screenshot is saved to Gallery.
Button placement varies by model. On Galaxy devices with a physical Home button, Samsung’s Canada instructions give the combination as Power plus Home. If your keys or behavior differ, check the manual for your exact model. See Samsung Canada’s screenshot instructions.

Use Palm swipe if your Galaxy supports it
Palm swipe captures the screen without pressing the side buttons, but it is not available on every model or software version. On supported devices, look under Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures for Palm swipe to capture, then turn it on. Swipe the edge of your hand across the screen to capture.
The gesture does not work while the keyboard is displayed. If the setting is absent, your device may not support the feature; consult its manual instead of assuming the option is hidden. Samsung’s path and availability guidance is at Samsung US support.

Capture a long page with Scroll capture
- Open scrollable content that continues beyond the visible screen.
- Take a standard screenshot using the button combination.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture to extend the image down the page. On some devices, holding the Scroll capture icon continues the capture farther.
- Stop when you have captured the portion you need. The resulting image is resized and saved to Gallery.
The icon appears only when content extends beyond one screen, and some apps or websites do not support the feature. How far the capture can continue depends on the content. See Samsung Saudi Arabia’s Scroll Capture guide and Samsung Canada’s guidance.
Other capture options: voice commands and S Pen
Samsung documents screenshot commands through Bixby or Google Assistant, and Screen Write on Galaxy devices equipped with an S Pen. These are optional alternatives: voice capture depends on assistant availability and setup, while Screen Write requires compatible hardware and software. Find, edit, or share the screenshot
Open Gallery and look in Albums > Screenshots. Samsung also describes finding screenshot files in My Files. The toolbar shown immediately after capture may provide editing, tagging, and sharing actions; the labels and available controls vary across models and software versions. - The button combination does nothing: Check that you are pressing the correct keys simultaneously and briefly. Key placement differs, and models with a physical Home button may use another combination. Confirm the instructions for your exact device.
- Palm swipe is missing or fails: The model or software may not support it. If the option is present, make sure it is enabled and the keyboard is not open.
- Scroll capture is not offered: The screen may not contain content beyond one screen, or the app or website may not support scrolling capture.
- The phone blocks a capture: Some apps and screens restrict screenshots for privacy or security. Samsung’s UK support gives banking apps as an example; the device may show a message that capture is blocked as a security measure. This is an intentional restriction, not a capture problem to bypass. See Samsung UK support.
Feature availability and setting paths can vary by model, software version, carrier, and region. When the on-device options differ from these steps, use the manual and support guidance for your specific Galaxy device.
