These methods produce different images; full-page capture is not a guarantee of how a fixed header will appear.

| What you want to show | Capture choice | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| The page as it currently appears, with the header in view | Visible-area or viewport capture | Shows only the portion currently on screen. |

| A page at a particular responsive size | Set a responsive viewport, then capture | Dimensions are repeatable, but desktop device emulation is not the same as running on a phone. |

Capture a fixed header in Firefox
Use the screenshot interface
- Open the webpage and position it so the fixed header is visible as you want it shown.
- Right-click an empty area and choose Take Screenshot. You can also open the interface with Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save visible to capture the current viewport, or Save full page to capture the full document. The interface also supports selecting a region or an automatically highlighted page part.
- Save or copy the image, then inspect it at its actual dimensions. Check that the header is where you intended and does not obscure text.
For the header’s current on-screen appearance, choose Save visible. A full-page capture includes off-screen content, so its result should be checked rather than assumed to match the viewport.

- Full page: In Developer Tools, open Settings → Available Toolbox Buttons and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. Use the resulting toolbar button to capture the page.
- One element: In the Inspector, right-click the element and choose Screenshot Node.
- Console helper: Firefox’s Web Console screenshot helper accepts
:screenshot --fullpagefor a full-page capture and a--selectorargument for selecting an element. It also supports delay, device-pixel-ratio, filename, and clipboard options. If you reuse a filename, the previous image is overwritten.
See the Firefox screenshot documentation for the helper’s options.

Set a repeatable viewport size
If the header’s appearance depends on screen width or height, set the viewport before capturing. Chrome DevTools Device Mode lets you enter responsive width and height values. This is useful for repeatable screenshots, but Chrome describes Device Mode as a desktop simulation—not execution on a real mobile device. If mobile-specific rendering matters, confirm the result on an actual phone. Chrome for Developers: Simulate mobile devices with Device Mode
Check the image before using it
- Confirm whether you captured the viewport, the whole document, or one element; each has a different scope.
- For a full-page image, look for a header that is repeated, shifted, or covering page content. Fixed-position behavior can vary with the page and capture method.
- If you changed the page’s CSS to hide or move the header, note that the result no longer faithfully records the page as it appeared before the change.
- When comparing responsive layouts, record the viewport dimensions alongside the screenshot. For mobile-specific behavior, check on a real device rather than relying only on desktop emulation.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; its options include full-page capture, element capture by CSS selector, device presets and custom viewports. Before capture, it can accept consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with the page verdict and billing status reported in response headers. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
Example cURL request for a full-page capture:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -d full_page=true -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and supported parameters. ScreenshotNeo accepts the parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can make switching straightforward. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.

Common problems and fixes
The full-page image does not show the header as expected
Full-page capture and viewport capture have different scopes, and fixed or sticky positioning may be handled differently by the page or capture method. Use a visible-area screenshot if the goal is the header in its current on-screen state; otherwise inspect the full-page result and consider capturing the header element separately.
The header is not included in a viewport capture
It may not be visible in the current viewport—for example, the page may be scrolled or the header may change with scroll position. Return the page to the state you want to record before taking a visible-area screenshot.
The element screenshot lacks useful context
An element capture isolates the selected node and its descendants. Use a viewport or full-page capture if the surrounding page is needed to explain where the header belongs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a full-page screenshot guarantee that a fixed header appears only once?
No. The documented Firefox options establish capture scope, not a universal result for every browser, page, or fixed-position layout. Inspect the output.
