To swap which mouse button acts as the primary button in Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse and change Primary mouse button to Right or Left. This is a built-in Windows setting; you do not need extra software or a different mouse.
Change the primary mouse button in Windows 11
- Open Start, then select Settings. You can also press Windows logo key + I to open Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Under Primary mouse button, open the menu and choose Right or Left. Microsoft’s mouse settings instructions describe the same control.
- Click with the selected button to check that it behaves as you want. If not, return to the menu and choose the other option.
What the Left and Right options do

| Right | The right mouse button is primary. |
Windows labels this choice Primary mouse button; it is not a separate “swap buttons” switch. Microsoft’s accessibility guidance also points to this menu for choosing the primary button.

If you cannot find the setting
Check that you are using the Windows 11 path: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse. Windows 10 uses a different route: Settings > Devices > Mouse, as listed in Microsoft’s mouse settings instructions.

The Windows setting changes which button is primary at the operating-system level. An individual application may have its own mouse-button configuration, so behavior can differ in apps that override or configure buttons separately.
