How to Stream Recorded Physics Lessons Around the Clock on YouTube

A practical guide to broadcasting recorded physics lessons continuously on YouTube, from channel eligibility and encoder setup to bitrate, monitoring and replay limits.

To stream recorded physics lessons around the clock on YouTube, send the lesson program to YouTube Live through an encoder and configure the encoder or a separate playout workflow to rotate the recordings. YouTube accepts encoder-based live feeds, including continuous feeds, but the playlist loop itself must be set up outside YouTube. Before launch, enable live streaming, protect your stream key, test the feed, and plan lesson replays separately: YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.

How a continuous lesson stream works

YouTube distinguishes between a stream, the audio-video feed sent by your encoder, and a broadcast, the viewer-facing live event. A broadcast is associated with a stream, and a stream can be reused for recurring broadcasts. Google’s developer documentation also describes a 24/7 feed running alongside a separate broadcast for a subset of its content; that example explains the platform model, not a required setup for ordinary looping lessons. Google for Developers: YouTube Live Streaming API concepts.

For recorded physics lessons, your workflow must do two jobs: select and play the recordings in the intended order, then encode and send that program to YouTube Live. YouTube’s documentation covers receiving an encoder feed, but it does not establish that YouTube itself will loop a playlist of uploaded lessons. Choose software or hardware that supports your intended playback and unattended operation; YouTube documents both software and standalone hardware encoders and provides a list of verified options. YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings.

Check channel eligibility before building the workflow

In YouTube Studio, check the channel’s live-streaming status before scheduling a launch. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Initial enablement for a channel can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned start time. Requirements and account status can change; the current status shown for your channel is the practical check. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Set up and start the recorded lesson feed

  1. Choose a playback and encoding setup. Select an encoder workflow that can play the recordings in the sequence you want and send the resulting program continuously. YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; dedicated hardware is optional. Compare the options on operating-system dependence, unattended playback, recovery needs, production complexity and startup cost rather than assuming one category is universally more reliable. YouTube’s verified-encoder list is a starting point, not an endorsement of a specific product. YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings.
  2. Create the live event in YouTube Studio. Set up the broadcast and obtain the server or stream URL and stream key provided for the encoder connection. Follow the current Studio prompts, since labels and setup details can change. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes connecting an encoder with these details. YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings.
  3. Connect the encoder without exposing the key. Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder’s YouTube or custom-server settings. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube describes it as the encoder’s password and address, used to tell YouTube where to accept the feed. Do not show it in screenshots, recordings or public notes. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Studio before relying on that connection. YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings and YouTube Help: stream key guidance.
  4. Configure lesson playback. Build the rotation in the encoder or playout workflow: choose the lesson files, order, repeat behavior and any transitions or breaks your teaching channel needs. Verify that the workflow returns to the right point after a file ends or the encoder restarts. The exact controls depend on the software or hardware selected; YouTube’s documentation does not specify a universal playlist-loop setting.
  5. Set encoding and transport. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings as the reference for resolution, bitrate, frame rate, codec and keyframe interval. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate encoding, up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds). Select a bitrate appropriate to the intended resolution and available upload capacity using the official settings table rather than copying an unsupported generic maximum. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
  6. Test before announcing the feed. Send a representative test with lesson audio and on-screen motion. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, confirm that sound is intelligible and video looks correct, then verify that the playback workflow advances and loops as intended. YouTube advises testing with representative content and monitoring audio and video during streaming. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
  7. Start the broadcast and monitor it. Start the feed from the encoder and use the Studio controls required by the event setup to go live. Keep an eye on stream health and the actual viewer-facing broadcast, especially during initial operation and after changing files or settings.

Choose settings and network capacity for the lessons

Resolution, frame rate and bitrate

Physics lessons often rely on readable equations, diagrams and demonstrations, so judge the result from representative slides and motion rather than choosing a resolution by habit. Use YouTube’s table to match a supported resolution and frame rate to a suitable bitrate. Its documented recommendations include up to 60 fps; the appropriate output depends on the source material, encoder and connection. These are YouTube Help recommendations, not measurements from a test of your specific setup. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Keyframes and bitrate mode

YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding and a keyframe interval of two seconds, with the interval not exceeding four seconds. Set these in the encoder if it exposes the controls; if it offers a preset, confirm that its resulting output follows YouTube’s current guidance. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

RTMPS or HLS

YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP, for encoder delivery. HLS ingestion is another route, but YouTube says it has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. For passive recorded lessons where low-latency interaction is not the goal, use RTMPS unless your chosen encoder or format requires HLS. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and YouTube Help: Use HLS ingest to live stream.

Upload bandwidth and headroom

Reserve upload capacity for the stream instead of sizing the connection to the video bitrate alone. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom and says to account for both primary and backup bitrates if using backup ingestion. Other devices and services on a shared connection can reduce what remains for the encoder, and a network disruption can interrupt the feed. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Plan replays separately from the live feed

YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. An around-the-clock stream exceeds that duration, so do not assume one uninterrupted feed will automatically provide a complete replay of every lesson. The cited guidance does not establish a reliable alternative archive workflow for longer feeds. Treat continuous live viewing and durable, lesson-by-lesson replay as separate needs, and decide how to publish or preserve individual lessons for your channel. YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings.

Keep lesson content and channel policies in view

Use recordings you have the right to broadcast, including any music, illustrations, clips or third-party material in the lesson. A live delivery method does not remove copyright responsibilities. YouTube’s account-level live-streaming eligibility and restrictions should also be checked in Studio before launch; the eligibility guidance above does not determine whether a particular channel’s content qualifies for monetization or complies with every policy.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • The encoder cannot connect: recheck the stream URL and key in Studio and in the encoder, confirm live streaming is enabled, and verify that the key has not been changed or exposed. Replace an exposed key before restarting.
  • The feed starts but drops or reports poor health: check the encoder’s bitrate against available upload capacity, restore YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and reduce competing network use. If configured for backup ingestion, include its bitrate in the capacity calculation.
  • The picture or sound is wrong: inspect the encoder’s selected source, codec, resolution, frame rate and audio input; compare the output with YouTube’s current settings guidance, then test again in the Live Control Room before relying on the feed.
  • The lessons do not advance or repeat: inspect the selected encoder or playout workflow’s file order and end-of-playback behavior. The loop is configured there, not guaranteed by the YouTube broadcast itself.
  • The archive does not contain the whole continuous program: do not treat the automatic archive guidance for streams under 12 hours as a guarantee for an around-the-clock feed. Maintain a separate plan for lesson replays.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload the recorded lessons, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud. Nothing has to stay on at home, and the stream continues with your computer off. The same flat price per slot applies to any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. See StreamNeo, then start your free first day.
