Sony’s official PC Remote Play support lists Windows and macOS, not Linux, so this is an unofficial route—not a Sony-supported Linux app. Enable Remote Play on the console, install chiaki-ng from its current Linux release, and pair the console using the client’s setup guide.
Does PS5 Remote Play work on Linux?
Not through a Sony-listed official Linux PC app. Sony’s Remote Play information and PC and Mac setup guide describe Windows and macOS. On Linux, the practical option is chiaki-ng, an open-source third-party client for PS4 and PS5 Remote Play. Its developers state that Sony has not endorsed or certified the project.

This guide is for viewing and controlling your own console on a Linux PC. It is not a guide to broadcasting gameplay publicly on Twitch, YouTube, or another platform.
What you need
- A PS5 Pro with Remote Play enabled.
- A Linux PC capable of running a current chiaki-ng release.
- A stable network connection between the console and PC. Being on the same home network is the simplest arrangement for initial pairing.
- A controller arrangement that works with your Linux setup and the game. Sony’s USB-controller requirements for its official PC client should not be assumed to apply to chiaki-ng.
Enable Remote Play on the PS5 Pro
- On the console, open Settings > System > Remote Play.
- Select Enable Remote Play.
- If you want to connect while the console is in Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
The Rest Mode options are only needed for waking the console over the network. You can instead start Remote Play when the console is already on.
#1 Best Overall
- Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
Install chiaki-ng on Linux
Get chiaki-ng from its releases page. The project lists a Flathub Flatpak and AppImage releases for arm64 and x86_64. Choose the package appropriate for your system, and follow the current release notes and installation instructions; packaging details and prerequisites may change.
chiaki-ng is maintained outside Sony’s official software support. For installation or client-specific problems, consult the project’s documentation and setup guidance rather than applying instructions intended for Sony’s Windows or Mac app.
Pair the console and start a stream
- Connect the Linux PC and PS5 Pro to your home network. For the initial setup, use the same local network if possible.
- Open chiaki-ng and follow its current console registration or pairing flow. The names and layout of client controls can vary by version.
- If the client requests a pairing code, on the PS5 Pro open Settings > System > Remote Play > Pair Device and enter the code in chiaki-ng as directed.
- Select the registered PS5 Pro in chiaki-ng and start Remote Play. Use the controls supported by your Linux system and the client.
- If the picture stutters or the connection degrades, lower the stream quality in the client if available, then retest.
Sony documents the console’s Pair Device menu, but chiaki-ng’s registration interface is its own and may change. Use the version-specific instructions from the project if the sequence differs.

Improve a weak or unstable connection
Prefer a wired console connection when practical
Sony says, “An Ethernet cable is the fastest and most reliable way to connect your PlayStation to your home network.” Wiring the PS5 Pro to the router can reduce wireless variability; it does not guarantee a particular stream quality. If wiring the console is impractical, improve Wi-Fi signal and avoid placing the router behind obstructions.
Reduce network load and tune quality
- Pause large downloads or other heavy network use while streaming.
- Try a lower stream quality setting in chiaki-ng if the image freezes, drops frames, or becomes unstable.
- Check that both devices have a stable connection; a fast internet plan does not necessarily prevent congestion or weak Wi-Fi inside the home.
Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download for standard Remote Play use and at least 15 Mbps in each direction for best performance in its documented PC/Mac guidance. Those figures are Sony recommendations for its official client, not measured minimums or guaranteed results for chiaki-ng on Linux. Sony’s separate troubleshooting guidance also describes 5 Mbps as a minimum and notes that resolution may adjust automatically with network quality; neither figure guarantees a specific Linux resolution, frame rate, or latency.
Quick Recap
Know the limitations
- Some games are not available through Remote Play. Sony also identifies restrictions for content that requires certain peripherals and for some features used at the same time as Remote Play.
- Sony notes additional restrictions when PS5 consoles in the CFI-7000 model group output game images to an 8K TV. Check Sony’s current Remote Play restrictions for details.
- There is no universal PS5 Pro resolution, frame rate, HDR mode, or latency guarantee for chiaki-ng. Results depend on the client version, Linux PC, game, network, and settings.
