You cannot currently follow a documented, supported ps5-linux installation procedure on a PS5 Pro. The project lists PS5 Phat and Slim models on selected firmware versions, not PS5 Pro. Its instructions should not be adapted for the Pro, and the available documentation does not establish a way to install Linux on that model without risking damage.
Why a PS5 Pro Linux installation is not supported
The ps5-linux loader’s compatibility documentation names PS5 Phat and Slim hardware and lists selected firmware releases from 3.00 through some 7.xx versions. It does not list PS5 Pro. Because model support is a prerequisite, instructions written for a Phat or Slim are not a safe substitute for Pro-specific support.

The project documentation also says not to expect support for firmware 8.00 and above and that downgrading is not possible. These are the project’s documented compatibility limits, not a promise that a listed model and firmware combination is risk-free. Compatibility information can change, so consult the project’s current documentation rather than relying on an old tutorial.

A jailbreak and a Linux loader are different things. A report dated September 30, 2026 described Relapse jailbreak coverage for firmware 7.00–13.60, including PS5 Pro. That does not mean the ps5-linux loader supports the Pro: the Linux project’s own model and firmware requirements remain the relevant source for whether Linux boot is documented.

Do not update, downgrade, or modify the Pro to try to match a guide for another model. Sony’s PS5 system software guidance directs users to official update and reinstallation methods. Sony warns that data obtained from another source or method, or a modified console, may not work properly, may prevent official updates, and may affect warranty or repair service. The US PS5 software license also restricts unauthorized or modified hardware and software, circumvention of security mechanisms, and downgrading; applicable terms and legal consequences depend on jurisdiction, and this is not legal advice.
Why storage and accessories will not solve the model mismatch
For configurations the project does support, its requirements include a USB drive of at least 64 GB and a USB keyboard and mouse. A compatible M.2 SSD is optional for Linux storage in supported configurations. Those requirements do not add PS5 Pro support, so buying them is not a fix for this limitation.

The project’s FAQ notes that M.2 support is unavailable on firmware 3.xx because the console fails to boot with an M.2 drive attached. That caveat is specific to the project’s supported configurations; it is not a PS5 Pro workaround.

What is known—and not known—about damage risk
No reviewed source documents a supported PS5 Pro Linux procedure or gives a measured probability that a Linux attempt will brick a Pro. There is therefore no evidence-based brick rate or brick-proof method to offer.

Sony’s warning is specific to system software installation: “Interrupting the installation can cause your console to be damaged.” Follow Sony’s instructions if you are installing or reinstalling official system software, and do not turn off the console during that installation. This warning is not a measured estimate of the risk from every Linux attempt.
If you already changed the console or have a software problem
Use Sony’s official update and reinstallation guidance for system software problems. Reinstalling system software deletes console data, and Sony advises using its official files and documented methods. If the console has been modified or will not start, contact PlayStation Support for guidance about repair or recovery rather than trying unofficial firmware or downgrade instructions.

Project status and version context
The project’s image release page showed a build dated August 29, 2026, using kernel 7.1.7 and offering images including Ubuntu 26.04, Arch, CachyOS, Fedora 44, and Proxmox VE 8. Its organization page showed the loader updated September 5, 2026, and patches updated September 29, 2026. These development details do not indicate PS5 Pro compatibility; check the loader’s current hardware and firmware list before relying on any project status.
