To watch Netflix on a TV, use Netflix on the TV itself or on a compatible device connected to it. If neither has the app, a phone connection may work—but Netflix casting is limited to specific devices, and wired playback depends on your phone and adapter.
Choose a method based on what you own
Netflix needs to run on a device connected to the television. That device can be the TV, a streaming player, a cable box, a Blu-ray player, or a game console. Netflix lists these device categories, but support depends on the exact model. Check Netflix’s supported-device guidance and the device maker’s information before buying equipment.

| Game console | A console connected to the TV | Whether Netflix is available on that console |
| Phone or tablet | A supported casting target or a compatible video cable and adapter | Casting-device eligibility or wired video-output support |
1. Use the Netflix app on a smart TV
- Open the TV’s Home screen or main menu and look for Netflix.
- If it is missing, open the TV’s app store and search for Netflix.
- If the app store does not show it, check for a TV system software update.
- If Netflix remains unavailable, consult the TV manufacturer for the model’s app support.
App availability can vary by model and age. If the TV does not support Netflix, use another compatible device connected to it instead.

2. Use a streaming stick or box
Connect a compatible streaming player to the TV, switch the TV to that input, and open or install Netflix on the player. Netflix lists streaming sticks and boxes as TV options and identifies Amazon Fire TV/Stick among supported device families. Confirm support for the exact model rather than assuming every generation or variant works.

3. Open Netflix through a cable or TV-provider box
Some cable and TV-provider boxes include Netflix. Look for the app in the box’s menu or app section, then sign in if prompted. The category is supported, but availability is determined by your provider’s particular box; check its model or ask the provider if you cannot find the app.
4. Use a Blu-ray player
A Blu-ray player connected to the TV can run Netflix if that specific player supports the app. Check the player’s menu or app store. If the app is absent, verify the model’s support with its manufacturer; not every player offers Netflix.

5. Use a game console
Some game consoles provide Netflix as an app. Search the console’s app store or media menu, install Netflix if available, and launch it. Support depends on the console model, so check the console’s official compatibility information if the app cannot be found.
6. Connect a phone or tablet
Cast from the Netflix app to a supported device
Netflix mobile casting works only with listed compatible targets: Chromecast (3rd generation or older, without a physical remote), Google Nest Hub Smart Displays, and select cast-enabled Vizio and Compal TVs. Netflix’s casting guidance says iPhone and iPad AirPlay is not supported.

- Connect the phone or tablet and the compatible target to the same network, and open the Netflix app.
- Tap the Cast icon, choose the listed device, then select a title.
If your TV or streaming player is not listed as a casting target, use its own Netflix app and remote instead. Netflix’s current help guidance says casting or mirroring is available on Standard or Premium plans; check your plan details because availability can change.
Use a wired video connection
A wired connection can avoid casting, but the phone must support video output and the adapter must match both the phone’s port and the TV’s input. For Lightning iPhone or iPad models, Netflix specifies Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter, model A1438 or A1621. USB-C adapters must support video playback; select iPhones do not support wired video output. For high-resolution playback, USB-C or Thunderbolt cables must meet the documented standard. See Netflix’s device and connection guidance before choosing an adapter.

Try wireless mirroring only as a fallback
Mirroring options and setup steps vary across Android devices, and Netflix says some devices or mirroring apps may not be supported. If mirroring produces a blank screen or does not start playback, use a supported casting target, the TV’s Netflix app, or another connected device instead.

- The TV app is missing: Search the device app store, check for a system software update, and ask the manufacturer about that model’s support.
- The Cast icon is missing or no device appears: Netflix says the target may be incompatible, or a network or settings issue may be preventing discovery. Confirm the target is on the same network and that it is one of the supported casting devices.
- A cable connection does not show video: Recheck phone video-output support, adapter compatibility, cable capability, and the selected TV input.
- A method is unavailable on your account: Check your plan details; Netflix’s current casting or mirroring guidance names Standard and Premium plans.
Netflix in 4K on Apple TV
For 4K playback through Apple TV, Netflix specifies a compatible 4K television and an HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2 or later, an eligible Netflix plan, the High quality setting, and a steady internet connection of at least 15 Mbps. This is Netflix’s device-specific requirement, not a general broadband recommendation. See Netflix’s Apple TV guidance.
