Yes. You can stream a prerecorded video as a repeating YouTube Live feed over BSNL broadband using an encoder such as OBS, provided your YouTube channel is eligible and your measured, sustained upload speed can support the stream. The decisive number is your real upload capacity—not the download speed or headline speed printed on a BSNL plan. Set the encoder to send less than that capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, check the Live Control Room preview, and only then go live.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- A computer or other encoder-capable device, a prerecorded video file, and an encoder configured to repeat that source. The precise loop controls depend on the encoder and its current version.
- A stable internet connection with enough outbound bandwidth for the chosen stream settings.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and its stream URL and stream key.
You do not need a special camera, capture device, router, or broadband tier simply to send a prerecorded file as a live feed. Use equipment you already have unless you have a specific limitation to solve.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and start an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, create or select a stream using the encoder workflow. YouTube’s interface labels may change, so follow the current on-screen prompts.
- Copy the server URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion. In the encoder’s streaming settings, select the RTMPS service/server option if available, then enter the server URL and key shown for the selected YouTube stream. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Add the video and enable repeat/loop playback. Add the local video file as the encoder’s media source and configure that source or playlist to repeat. The exact OBS menu labels and steps can vary by version; check the current OBS documentation or interface rather than assuming a particular control is unchanged. Confirm that the video and its audio play correctly in the encoder before connecting.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate together. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the codec and frame rate you select. For H.264, YouTube’s guidance recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not guarantees about what a particular BSNL line can sustain.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Return to Live Control Room. Wait until YouTube receives the feed and displays the preview; check stream health and confirm the picture and sound are as expected. Select Go live in YouTube only after the preview is ready.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on the encoder and YouTube stream-health status, especially during the first minutes. When finished, end the live broadcast in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; consult its encoder streaming setup instructions for details.
Check whether your BSNL upload can sustain it
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must stay below the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. See YouTube’s streaming tips. Apply that margin to the total outgoing stream bitrate, including audio. For example, a 5 Mbps video bitrate plus audio needs more than 5 Mbps of sustained upload; do not set the stream at the entire measured upload rate.

- Run an upload-speed test on the same BSNL connection and device/network arrangement you plan to use for streaming. Repeat it at different times if the connection varies.
- Compare the sustained upload result—not the download result—with the encoder’s total bitrate. Keep at least YouTube’s recommended 20% margin, and more if your connection fluctuates or other devices use the line.
- Do a realistic private or unlisted test using the intended resolution, frame rate, video motion, and audio. Watch for dropped frames, buffering, or deteriorating stream health before relying on that setting for a long broadcast.
- If the test is unstable, reduce bitrate and/or resolution, pause other uploads, and retest. A lower, steady setting is preferable to a higher setting that repeatedly disconnects.
BSNL plan tables do not establish an individual subscriber’s upload performance. For example, a Chennai Telephones tariff document updated 1 October 2025 lists Fibre Neo at up to 50 Mbps before FUP and 4 Mbps after FUP, and Fibre Basic Plus at up to 100 Mbps before FUP and 4 Mbps after FUP. Those are advertised figures in a regional tariff document, not upload-rate measurements or nationwide offers. Check your own plan terms and test your actual line; local congestion, Wi-Fi conditions, shared use, and post-FUP limits can affect results. See the Chennai Telephones tariff information.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: check that the correct stream URL and key are entered, the intended stream is selected in Live Control Room, and the encoder is connected. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The preview appears, but the stream buffers or drops frames: the outgoing bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity, or the connection may be fluctuating. Lower the bitrate or resolution, stop other uploads on the network, and run another test with the 20% headroom in mind.
- The picture works but there is no audio: inspect the video’s audio track and the encoder’s selected audio source and meters; verify sound in a test before going live.
- The video plays once and stops: the media source or playlist is not set to repeat. Check the current controls for your encoder version and test the end-to-start transition.
- The stream is interrupted after a period of stability: check both encoder logs/status and YouTube stream health, then retest the connection. A plan’s advertised speed alone cannot establish whether the line is stable enough for continuous streaming.
