On a Windows PC, you can ask Claude to capture a webpage by connecting a local MCP server—Microsoft’s Playwright MCP—to Claude Desktop or Claude Code. The server opens the page in a controlled browser and provides a screenshot tool. Use fullPage: true for the entire scrollable page; leave it unset for the current viewport. The official setup documentation covers Windows and the software workflow, but does not establish India-specific account or network availability.
What you need
- A Claude client: Claude Desktop for Windows, or Claude Code. Install Claude Desktop from Anthropic’s downloads page. Claude Code is a separate option; its plan availability differs from standard Claude chat.
- Node.js and npm: Playwright MCP is launched with
npx. Install a current Node.js release that includes npm if the command is unavailable. - A browser: Playwright MCP documents Chromium-based Chrome and Edge, as well as Firefox and WebKit. For Edge, pass
--browser msedge. - Permission to connect a third-party tool: only connect MCP servers you trust, review the tool requests Claude presents, and enable only the tools needed.
Anthropic documents Claude Desktop for Windows and local MCP server management. Its documentation does not confirm whether account, plan, or network restrictions specific to India apply; check current Claude availability and your organization’s policies before relying on the workflow.

Connect Playwright MCP to Claude on Windows

Open a terminal where Claude Code is available and register Microsoft’s Playwright MCP server with the documented command:

Microsoft documents Chrome, Firefox, WebKit, and Edge as browser choices; set the corresponding browser option when you want a browser other than the default.
Claude Desktop
Use Microsoft’s Playwright MCP repository and its linked MCP installation guidance for Claude Desktop configuration. The standard server launch command is npx @playwright/mcp@latest. If choosing Edge, include --browser msedge in the server arguments. Follow the current Claude Desktop local-server configuration format shown in the linked setup guide rather than copying a configuration from an older tutorial: field names and client configuration can change.
Confirm the connection
In Claude Desktop, open the plus menu and its Connectors view to inspect connected MCP servers and available tools. You can also check connection status and logs in Developer settings. Claude Code users can inspect the registered MCP server using its MCP management interface. If Playwright’s tools do not appear, resolve the connection issue before asking Claude to capture a page.

- In Claude, ask it to use the Playwright MCP browser to navigate to the exact page URL you want captured.
- Ask Claude to use the Playwright screenshot tool and specify whether you need the current viewport or the full page. For a full-page image, the tool option is
fullPage: true; for only the visible browser area, omit it or set it tofalse. - Optionally give the screenshot tool an explicit output filename and image type, using the options exposed by the connected Playwright MCP tool.
- Check the resulting file in the configured output directory. Playwright MCP supports explicit filenames and an output directory for automatically named screenshots.
A useful prompt is: “Open https://example.com in the Playwright browser and save a full-page screenshot as example.png. Use fullPage true, then tell me where the file was saved.” Replace the URL and filename with your own. Do not ask Claude to capture a page you are not authorized to access.
Choose local MCP or a remote connector
These connection paths are not interchangeable. A local MCP server configured in Claude Desktop runs through the local-server mechanism, which is the relevant route when your goal is to control a browser on your Windows computer. A remote MCP connector is reached from Anthropic’s cloud infrastructure; adding one does not automatically make it operate a browser installed on your PC. Playwright MCP and Edge DevTools MCP
Microsoft documents both options, but they have different scopes. Playwright MCP offers a screenshot tool and browser choices including Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and WebKit. Edge DevTools MCP is a separate, Edge-focused route for inspecting sites and WebView2 apps; Microsoft lists Node.js, npm, Edge, and an MCP-capable agent such as Claude Code among its prerequisites. Choose Playwright when you want its documented browser selection and screenshot workflow; consider Edge DevTools MCP when your task is specifically tied to Edge DevTools or a WebView2 app. See Microsoft’s Edge DevTools MCP documentation.

Claude does not show Playwright tools
Check that the MCP server was added to the same Claude client you are using, and inspect Claude Desktop’s Connectors view or Developer settings for connection status and logs. For Claude Code, verify the registered server and command. Make sure Node.js/npm are installed and that npx @playwright/mcp@latest can run in the environment Claude uses.
The browser opens, but the wrong browser is used
Set the browser explicitly in the MCP server arguments, such as --browser msedge for Microsoft Edge. Restart or reconnect the server after changing its configuration, then check the browser session before capturing.

The image shows only the top or visible part of the page
Request a full-page screenshot and ensure the screenshot tool receives fullPage: true. If you need only what is currently on screen, a viewport capture is expected behavior.
The screenshot is missing or saved somewhere unexpected
Specify an output filename in the screenshot request and inspect the configured Playwright MCP output directory. Ask Claude to report the saved path, then verify the file there.
Claude cannot access the site
Check that the URL is correct and that the page is reachable from the Windows machine and browser session. Site authentication, access controls, network rules, and bot defenses can prevent a capture; do not try to bypass restrictions. India-specific network access is not established by the cited setup documentation, so check your own network and account access if the failure is regional.
