Can I stream a YouTube playlist live from my phone?
Not through the documented YouTube mobile workflow as a playlist source. YouTube’s mobile live option is for streaming from a phone camera or screencasting the phone; prerecorded videos need to be sent to YouTube as an encoder-produced live feed. A YouTube playlist and a YouTube Live broadcast are different: the playlist organizes videos, while the live broadcast needs a source that plays them and sends the feed.

For a temple channel, first decide whether the audience needs a live view of the shrine or a continuous sequence of prerecorded devotional content. The phone-camera route is for the former. The no-local-PC route for prerecorded content is cloud playout.
How to keep the channel live without leaving a computer on
Use cloud playout for prerecorded videos
A cloud playout service hosts or reads your uploaded recordings, plays them in sequence or a loop, and sends a continuous RTMP/RTMPS feed to YouTube Live. Because playback and encoding run in the cloud, the temple does not need to leave a PC, its power supply, or its local internet connection running for the broadcast.

Use a local encoder only if a computer can stay on
YouTube also supports software and hardware encoders. In this setup, the encoder plays the recordings and sends the feed using YouTube’s stream URL and key. It can handle a prerecorded playlist, but a local software encoder requires a computer, power, and a working internet connection to remain available. That makes it a poor fit when the requirement is specifically to operate without a PC.
Phone-camera streaming: eligibility and setup
If the channel wants live darshan or a view of a ceremony rather than prerecorded playlist playback, YouTube’s mobile workflow may work. YouTube Help’s current mobile guidance requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, live streaming enabled, and a device running Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so check the channel’s Live control ahead of the intended broadcast.

Channels with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have a mobile audience limit. While that safeguard applies, mobile live archives may default to private. These mobile rules do not turn the phone into a documented continuous playlist playout system.
Set up and verify a cloud broadcast
- Confirm the channel is ready for live streaming. Check YouTube Studio’s live controls and resolve any channel verification or restriction issue before scheduling the broadcast.
- Prepare the recordings and rights. Arrange the bhajans, darshan clips, or ceremony videos in the intended order. Confirm that the channel has the rights needed for every music recording, image, and piece of footage. Religious purpose by itself does not establish permission to use copyrighted material.
- Choose a cloud playout service and check the operational details. Verify formats, storage, loop behavior, region and payment availability, outage recovery, and stream-key handling directly with the provider. Make sure the person responsible during temple hours can operate the account.
- Connect the feed to YouTube Live. Create or open the intended YouTube live stream and provide its stream URL and key to the selected service as directed by its setup flow. Treat the key like a password: share it only with the chosen provider and regenerate it if exposed.
- Run an unlisted test before going public. Confirm that video and audio play correctly, the playlist advances or loops as expected, and playback looks and sounds right on both a phone and a TV. Test the provider’s reconnection behavior by checking what happens after a temporary network interruption.
- Decide how to preserve a replay. If a YouTube archive matters, plan broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and arrange an independent recording when a complete replay is essential.
Plan the replay separately from continuous availability
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous live channel and a complete replay are therefore separate goals: divide programming into shorter sessions when you need YouTube’s automatic archive, and keep an independent recording if missing the replay would be a problem.

The phone offers camera or screencast, but no playlist option
That matches YouTube’s documented mobile workflow. Use a phone for live camera coverage or screencasting; for prerecorded playlist playout, connect an encoder feed, either from a local encoder or a cloud service.
The broadcast does not start
Check that live streaming is enabled and that the stream URL and key were entered correctly. For the phone-camera route, also verify the channel’s subscriber threshold, verification, restriction status, and device operating system requirements. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time mobile enablement.

The stream stops after a local outage
A local encoder depends on the computer, power, and network remaining available. With a cloud provider, confirm its reconnect behavior and test it before relying on it during a ceremony. If the YouTube stream key may have been exposed, regenerate it and update the authorized encoder or service.
The live broadcast has no complete replay
Check the session length: YouTube may not capture a stream exceeding 12 hours. Use shorter sessions for automatic archiving and maintain an independent recording if the replay is important.
Music or ceremony footage triggers a rights complaint
Review the permissions for the specific recordings, music, images, and footage being broadcast. Do not assume that devotional or religious use alone grants the necessary rights; resolve permission questions before the stream.
Estimate upload and operating costs
For a local encoder, the computer and internet connection must keep running; include power and connectivity in the operating cost. For cloud playout, check the service’s storage allowance and payment terms against the amount of video you plan to keep.
