Choose a prerecorded loop or a live camera
A prepared snowfall video can repeat continuously, but it does not show current conditions. Do not describe a loop as live weather footage. A camera at a Himalayan location would show the actual scene, but requires a camera there, reliable power and network access, weather-protected equipment, and a plan to restore the stream after interruptions. The setup below is for a prerecorded ambience video.

Check that your YouTube channel can livestream
Before preparing the broadcast, check livestream access and restrictions in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. Enable livestreaming and confirm access before scheduling a launch: YouTube livestreaming eligibility.

Use visuals and audio you created or have permission to use for worldwide YouTube streaming and any archive you intend to keep. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for rights and compliance in applicable territories on the provider: YouTube Terms of Service.

YouTube scans live feeds for third-party content. A match may trigger a warning, a placeholder in the stream, interruption, or termination. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the rightsholder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. If you have permission to use licensed material, ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams before going live.
Set up the YouTube live stream and encoder
- Create the broadcast: Open YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and copy the server details and stream key provided there. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your broadcast.
- Configure the encoder: Choose an encoder that can send a continuous video-and-audio feed to YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options, as well as AAC or MP3 audio. Use constant bitrate encoding and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Follow its current bitrate table for your selected resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than choosing a bitrate without that context: YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Loop the media: Set the encoder or playback software to repeat the prepared video and its intended audio. Check that the transition from the end back to the start is acceptable and that playback continues after the first loop. The exact controls depend on the encoder or media player you choose.
- Check the internet connection: Sustained upload capacity must exceed the encoder’s chosen bitrate, with headroom for normal variation. NIC’s Government of India webcast setup guidance lists dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream for its service; that figure is specific to NIC’s webcast context, not a universal YouTube target or a guarantee for a Himalayan location. Measure the actual connection and route you will use, then compare it with your encoder bitrate.
- Test before launch: Send a test with motion and audio similar to the final loop. Review YouTube’s stream-health messages, verify that the event is accessible, and check any local recording. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover preparation and monitoring.
Plan for archives, interruptions, and around-the-clock operation
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its warning is direct: “If your live stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If the replay matters, make and verify a local recording rather than relying on YouTube’s archive: Archive live streams.

For a 24/7 broadcast, decide who will respond if power, network access, the encoder, or YouTube interrupts the feed. Document how to restore playback, reconnect the encoder, and restart the broadcast; test that recovery procedure before relying on it. A continuous stream is an operational process, not a guarantee that a broadcast or replay will never be interrupted.
