A dedicated material chest prevents the most common mistake: consuming planting stock or recipe reserves while making String. A Magic Chest beside your crafting stations can make those stored materials available to workshops, but its effective access distance is patch-sensitive and should be checked in your current build.

Where Plant Fiber comes from
Plant Fiber is a common world material rather than a resource limited to one biome or named route. The official Enshrouded item entry describes it as something gathered from bushes throughout Embervale. It can also appear as a loose physical pickup in the world.
Harvest ordinary bushes
When you need fiber immediately, harvest suitable bushes along routes you already use for exploration, quests, gathering or returning to your base. This is usually more efficient than making a special trip to a distant location because local bushes are available across Embervale.

Do not assume that every plant has the same drop. Berry-bearing plants and other vegetation may provide different items. Watch the pickup notification and your inventory after harvesting so you know that the item entering storage is Plant Fiber rather than a berry or another plant resource.
Use loose pickups as top-ups
A loose Plant Fiber pickup is useful for finishing a small recipe or filling a partial stack, but one pickup is not evidence of a renewable node or a guaranteed farming route. Treat world pickups as opportunistic additions to your supply, not as a fixed production rate.
How to create a renewable fiber supply
For a base that consumes fiber regularly, grow shrubs instead of depending entirely on exploration. The farming chain uses Farm Soil and a Seedbed to produce Shrub Seedlings, which you plant near your settlement and harvest after they mature.
Make Farm Soil
Prepare Farm Soil before planning a large planting cycle. Keep the soil intended for farming separate from general building materials so a construction project cannot consume the inputs you set aside for seedlings.
Produce Shrub Seedlings in a Seedbed
- Place or use a Seedbed at your farming area.
- Supply it with Plant Fiber and Farm Soil.
- Craft Shrub Seedlings according to the recipe shown in your current game build.
- Move the finished seedlings into the chest reserved for raw fiber and planting stock.
The cited farming guide identifies Plant Fiber and Farm Soil as the Seedbed inputs, but it does not establish a universal production rate. Do not plan around a guessed number of seedlings per minute or a guaranteed harvest interval.
Plant close to storage
Plant seedlings near the base, ideally close to the room containing your material chests. A nearby plot shortens every unloading trip and makes it easier to keep the seedbed supplied without mixing farming materials with expedition loot.

Return to the plot when the shrubs are mature and verify the harvested item. Store the new Plant Fiber immediately instead of leaving it in a general-purpose inventory. A local shrub plot is a renewable source, but the available evidence does not establish an instant respawn timer or a guaranteed yield per shrub.
Protect the next planting cycle
Before converting fiber or using it in construction, reserve the amount needed for your next known batch of Shrub Seedlings. Keep seedbed inputs in a separate section of the storage chest or in a second labeled chest if your farming operation is large. This prevents a planned expansion from consuming the material needed to restart production.

When to keep Plant Fiber raw and when to make String
Plant Fiber is not merely an intermediate ingredient. The official material listing includes direct uses in furniture, animal supplies, equipment, bait or food-related items and other recipes. If a recipe explicitly asks for Plant Fiber, using String in its place is not an option, so a complete conversion can leave you unable to craft a needed item.
String is a downstream material
String appears in recipes for backpacks, armor, bows, consumables, crafting stations, furniture, gliders, grappling hooks, shields and tools. It is therefore useful to keep a working supply, especially before a building or equipment session that uses several of those categories.

The recipe reference describes hand-crafting one String from four Plant Fiber. The same reference has conflicting introductory wording that says “3 Any Plant” before giving the later four-fiber instruction. Because recipe text can change between builds, open the String recipe in your current game version and follow the quantity displayed there before bulk crafting.
Do not treat the four-to-one exchange as permanently fixed merely because it appears in a reference table. The qualification belongs with the conversion decision: verify first, then craft only the amount you need.
Use a reserve rule
A practical reserve has three parts:
- Direct-recipe reserve: fiber for the next Plant Fiber recipes you already intend to make.
- Farming reserve: fiber for your next Shrub Seedling batch, plus the Farm Soil you have set aside.
- Conversion remainder: only the quantity left after those two reserves, which can become String.
For example, if you are preparing a bow and a new planting cycle, check both recipe requirements first. Leave those quantities raw, then convert the surplus. This avoids dismantling a farming plan just to satisfy a downstream String recipe.
Chest capacities and choosing a storage approach
Storage choice depends on three things: how many stacks you keep, whether crafting stations should draw from the container, and how clearly you can distinguish raw materials from processed materials. The documented capacities are:

The storage reference describes normal chests ranging from 16 slots in a Tiny Chest to 56 slots in a Huge Chest. Magic Chest tiers range from 24 to 72 slots. Upgrade costs rise with the tier: ordinary chests require progressively more advanced materials, while Magic Chests also use Shroud-related ingredients.
A layout that keeps reserves safe
Use a dedicated raw-material chest
Start with a chest labeled Plant Fiber / Shrub Seedlings. Put raw Plant Fiber and the seedlings made from it together only when the label and internal arrangement make the distinction obvious. If your reserve is large, use separate chests labeled Plant Fiber — Raw and Shrub Seedlings — Farm rather than relying on memory.

Keep related plant drops grouped according to how you use them, but do not mix unrelated berries or unidentified vegetation into the reserve. A clear category reduces accidental conversion and makes it obvious when the planting stock is running low.
Store String separately
Place String in a separate chest labeled String — Processed. Raw fiber and String serve different recipe paths; separating them lets you see whether you are short on the source material or have simply not processed enough of it.

Keep an overflow plan
If the raw-fiber chest fills, add another labeled chest or upgrade the container. Do not dump reserve fiber into an unlabeled overflow chest. An overflow that loses the raw-versus-processed distinction is where farming stock is most likely to disappear.
Using a Magic Chest around crafting stations
A Small Magic Chest has 24 slots, and its contents can be used for crafting anywhere in the base according to the relevant storage entry. This makes it useful beside stations that consume Plant Fiber or String: workshops can draw from the stored supply without requiring you to carry every stack to each station.
Place it beside the workshop cluster
Put the Magic Chest near the stations that use fiber or String, such as equipment, furniture and other crafting areas. Keep the chest physically close to the workstations even if your base is compact; this makes access easier to diagnose when a station fails to find a material.
Treat the range figure as provisional
The broader storage reference reports an approximately 100-meter circular workshop-access area for stored items, but marks that range for re-verification after reported changes. Use 100 meters as a working reference, not a guaranteed design limit. Test access from your actual station before building a distant warehouse around that measurement.

A Magic Chest improves crafting convenience; it does not decide which fiber is safe to consume. Keep the raw reserve and seedlings clearly identified inside the storage plan. If a workshop can see every stored stack, an automated or hurried crafting session can still consume material you intended for farming.

- Unload raw Plant Fiber first. Put it in the raw-fiber chest and check whether the total still covers direct recipes and the next seedling batch.
- Unload Shrub Seedlings second. Move them to the farm-stock section so they are not mistaken for a consumable crafting ingredient.
- Unload String and other processed materials last. Put String in the processed-material chest instead of combining it with raw fiber.
- Resolve full containers immediately. Add a labeled chest or upgrade storage before beginning another expedition.
This order also helps diagnose a missing material. If the raw-fiber chest is empty but the String chest is full, the problem is conversion planning rather than gathering.

Common mistakes and fixes
Converting every stack into String
Symptom: a later direct recipe or Seedbed batch cannot be started.
Fix: restore a raw reserve from the next harvest, then adopt the three-part reserve rule before converting again. Check the current String recipe rather than assuming an old exchange rate.
Using a berry source as a fiber farm
Symptom: a route produces berries or another plant drop instead of the expected fiber.
Fix: identify ordinary bushes that actually add Plant Fiber to the inventory. The item notification is more reliable than a plant’s appearance or a named route.
Assuming a distant Magic Chest will work
Symptom: a workshop cannot find fiber even though it exists in storage.
Fix: move the Magic Chest beside the station, then test the connection in the current build. The approximately 100-meter figure is subject to reported changes and should not be treated as a permanent radius.
Mixing reserves into a general chest
Symptom: you cannot tell which stacks are for farming, direct recipes or String.
Fix: create labeled raw-fiber, seedling and processed-String locations. Move the reserve before starting another project so the labels describe an intentional stock, not an after-the-fact cleanup.
Planning around an invented harvest rate
Symptom: a construction schedule depends on a supposed respawn time or fiber-per-minute figure that does not occur.
Fix: base plans on the stock actually in your chests and the shrubs you can harvest, then expand the farm if demand rises. No guaranteed respawn interval or independent production statistic is established for this material.
Maintenance checklist for a growing base
- Check the raw-fiber total before each major crafting session.
- Reserve the inputs for the next Seedbed batch before converting any surplus.
- Verify the String recipe quantity in the current game build before bulk crafting.
- Keep Plant Fiber, Shrub Seedlings and String in visibly separate labeled locations.
- Use a Magic Chest near the workshop cluster and test access after patches or layout changes.
- Upgrade or duplicate a chest before its last free slot is consumed.
- Inspect harvest notifications so berries and other plant drops do not enter the fiber reserve.
Adapting the system to your play style
Short exploration sessions
Use a Wooden Chest or another normal chest as the dedicated reserve. Gather bushes along routes you already travel, deposit raw fiber when you return, and craft String only for the immediate recipe. A Magic Chest is optional when your workshop is small.
Large building projects
Keep a larger raw reserve and a separate String chest before beginning construction. A higher-capacity normal chest can hold bulk stock, while a nearby Magic Chest can expose the working materials to stations. Do not place the entire reserve in the workshop-facing container without labels.

Dedicated farming bases
Put the Seedbed, shrub plot and raw-fiber storage in one compact area. Keep Farm Soil and seedlings together as farm inputs, then move harvested Plant Fiber into the raw reserve after each cycle. This arrangement makes the next planting batch visible and reduces travel between production and storage.
What to verify after an update
Plant Fiber acquisition and storage are straightforward, but recipes and access behavior can be patch-sensitive. After an update, inspect the String recipe, confirm that your Magic Chest still supplies the intended stations, and test any long-distance workshop arrangement. Keep the documented capacities as planning references, but trust the labels and behavior shown by your current game build when they differ.
