In the YouTube app, use Show fewer Shorts from a Shorts grid on Home. This changes recommendations; it does not promise to remove Shorts from places such as search or subscriptions.
How to show fewer Shorts on Home
-
Open the YouTube app and tap Home.
-
Scroll to a Shorts grid and tap More.
-
Choose Show fewer Shorts.
YouTube describes this as recommendation feedback, not a permanent block. Its Help page does not promise that the choice removes Shorts from every YouTube surface or applies identically across all devices and app versions. YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results

How to remove the preference later
To undo the feedback, open My Activity, go to Other activity, and delete the Show fewer Shorts response. YouTube’s instructions are in its recommendations and search results help page.

What changing watch or search history does
YouTube says Google Account activity can inform recommendations and search results. Turning watch or search history off changes how that history contributes to personalization; it is not a guaranteed way to block Shorts. YouTube does not document these history settings as a Shorts-removal control. Manage your recommendations & search results

Can you hide Shorts everywhere?
The official guidance reviewed documents recommendation feedback, not an account setting that permanently disables Shorts across Home, search, subscriptions, and other YouTube surfaces. Community discussions also include viewers asking for a disable setting, but those posts are not formal product documentation. Available controls and labels may vary by device, app version, region, or rollout.
Desktop browser extensions may offer display-level workarounds, but they are third-party and browser-specific. No particular extension is verified here; assess an extension’s permissions and maintenance before installing it.
