Use the setting that matches what’s reaching your iPad: turn off call relay or text forwarding on your iPhone, or change iMessage and FaceTime settings on your iPad. These are separate features, so changing one may not stop the others.
- Ordinary phone calls: turn off Calls on Other Devices on iPhone, or exclude just the iPad.
- Green-bubble SMS, MMS, or RCS texts: turn off Text Message Forwarding for the iPad on iPhone.
- Blue-bubble iMessages: turn off iMessage on iPad, or remove your iPhone number from its Send & Receive settings.
- FaceTime calls: remove your number from FaceTime on iPad, or turn FaceTime off there.
Stop ordinary phone calls from ringing on your iPad
Change this on the iPhone that receives the cellular calls. In current iOS, open Settings > Apps > Phone > Calls on Other Devices. Apple’s guide explains that selected devices can make and receive calls when they are near the iPhone, use the same Wi-Fi network, and are signed in to the same Apple Account: Use iPhone to allow calls and text messages on your iPad and Mac.

- To stop call relay on all other devices, turn off Allow Calls on Other Devices.
- To stop only the iPad, leave that switch on and turn off the iPad in the device list.
This setting controls cellular calls relayed from iPhone. It does not control FaceTime calls.
Stop SMS, MMS, and RCS texts from being forwarded
On iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Messages > Text Message Forwarding, then turn off the iPad. This is the setting for forwarding carrier messages, including SMS, MMS, and RCS, to another device. See Apple’s Forward text messages from your iPhone to other devices.

Messages in iCloud works differently: Apple says it keeps message history updated across devices and includes these message types as well as iMessage. When Messages in iCloud is enabled, forwarding is built in rather than managed through a separate Text Message Forwarding setup. Turning off forwarding therefore should not be treated as a way to stop iMessages that are syncing through iCloud.
Stop iMessages, or keep them without your iPhone number
If the iPad is receiving blue-bubble iMessages, choose whether to disable iMessage entirely or just remove the iPhone number from that device.

Turn off iMessage on iPad
On iPad, open Settings > Apps > Messages and turn off iMessage. This stops iMessage on the iPad.
Keep iMessage but remove the iPhone number
On iPad, open Settings > Apps > Messages > Send & Receive and deselect the iPhone number. Other reachable addresses, such as an email address, can remain selected, so iMessage can still be available through them. Apple’s instructions for managing the number are in Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime.

Stop FaceTime calls on iPad
FaceTime has its own controls and is separate from iPhone cellular call relay. On iPad, open Settings > Apps > FaceTime. Deselect the iPhone number in the reachable-at section to stop FaceTime calls to that number. To stop all FaceTime calls on the iPad, turn FaceTime off there. Apple notes that FaceTime availability can vary by region; see Get started with FaceTime on iPad.

- Text Message Forwarding is not listed: Apple advises checking that iMessage is on for iPad and that the Apple Account shown under Send & Receive matches the account on iPhone. If Messages in iCloud is enabled, forwarding is built in rather than set up separately. Apple also describes the iPhone forwarding control in Get started with Messages on iPad.
- Calls are not behaving as expected: check that the iPhone and iPad use the same Apple Account and Wi-Fi network, that the iPad is near the iPhone, and that FaceTime is signed in. A VPN configuration that blocks local networking can interfere with Continuity features, according to Apple’s call and text message guidance.
- The menu path differs: these paths apply to current iOS/iPadOS labels; menu wording can change between software releases. Search Settings for “Calls on Other Devices,” “Text Message Forwarding,” “Send & Receive,” or “FaceTime” if the layout differs.
