To stop recurring spam sent to an iCloud Mail alias, mark the messages as junk instead of simply deleting them. If you no longer want the address to receive mail, disable it temporarily or delete it permanently in iCloud.com Mail settings. Messages sent to a disabled or deleted alias are returned to the sender, so choose that option only if you can accept the consequences.
Mark spam as junk so iCloud Mail can filter future messages
Apple says manually moving a message to Junk helps improve iCloud Mail filtering; later messages from the same sender are automatically marked as junk. Deleting a message alone does not provide that signal. For Apple’s instructions, see Manage junk mail in Mail on iCloud.com.

- On iCloud.com: Open Mail, select the unwanted message, then choose More > Move Message to Junk. You can also drag the message to the Junk folder.
- On iPhone or iPad: Swipe left on the message, tap More, then tap Move to Junk.
- On Mac: Select the message and click the Junk button, or drag it to the Junk folder.
Apple’s guidance is to delete suspected junk without opening it, since opening a message can alert its sender that the address is active. Reporting it as junk is the useful action for future filtering.

Check Junk for messages that were filtered by mistake
iCloud Mail automatically deletes messages in Junk after 30 days. Review the folder periodically if you are waiting for important email. If a legitimate message lands there, move it back to your inbox or mark it as not junk; Apple says later messages from that sender will no longer be marked as junk.

Disable or delete the alias if you want it to stop receiving mail
Use iCloud.com Mail settings to manage an alias. Apple documents the steps in Add and manage email aliases for iCloud Mail on iCloud.com.
- Sign in to iCloud.com and open Mail.
- Open Settings and select the alias.
- To pause it, check Disable alias and save your changes.
- To remove it permanently, choose Delete alias and confirm.
Disabling is reversible; deletion is permanent. In either case, mail sent to the alias is returned to the sender. Apple allows up to three @icloud.com aliases after you set up a primary iCloud Mail address. If you have three and delete one, Apple says you must wait seven days before creating a replacement.

Choose the right option for your situation
| Option | Best for | Reversibility | What happens to future mail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mark messages as Junk | Repeat spam when you want to keep the alias | Filtering can be corrected by moving a legitimate message back to the inbox. | Later messages from that sender are automatically marked as junk. |
| Disable alias | A temporary pause or deciding whether you still need the address | Reversible | Mail sent while it is disabled is returned to the sender. |
| Delete alias | An address you no longer want to use | Permanent | Mail sent to it is returned; if it was one of three aliases, replacing it requires a seven-day wait. |
| Use a separate alias or Hide My Email for future signups | Keeping a personal address private when registering with sites or services | Hide My Email addresses can be deactivated or deleted. | Hide My Email creates random addresses that forward to your personal address. |
Use separate addresses for future signups
A separate email alias can help limit where you share your primary address. With iCloud+, Hide My Email creates unique, random addresses that forward to a personal address; you can deactivate or delete addresses you no longer need. This helps limit exposure going forward, but it does not stop messages already addressed to an existing alias. Apple explains the distinction in What are email aliases in iCloud Mail?
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTurn on Protect Mail Activity
Apple recommends enabling Protect Mail Activity as part of reducing exposure to suspicious email. The setting can be found at these paths; labels can vary by software version:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings > Apps > Mail > Privacy Protection > Protect Mail Activity
- Mac: Mail > Settings (or Preferences) > Privacy > Protect Mail Activity
- iCloud.com: Mail Settings > Privacy & Security > Protect Mail Activity
Apple also notes that Mail on iCloud.com supports rules, but its published overview does not establish whether the current rule editor can match messages by recipient alias. Check the available conditions in your rule editor rather than relying on an alias-specific rule.
