LG says the core Terms of Use and Privacy Policy remain necessary for smart services such as Netflix and YouTube; turning off optional features is not a blanket shutdown of all data processing.
How do I stop my LG TV from collecting my data?
Use the TV’s agreement screen to check which optional features you have accepted and switch off the ones you do not want. LG’s U.S. support page, updated September 2, 2026, gives this path: Settings > Privacy & Terms > User Agreements. Menu names and availability can vary by model and region, so use the TV’s own settings or model-specific support information if the path does not match.

- Open User Agreements. On the cited U.S. menu, go to Settings > Privacy & Terms > User Agreements.
- Review each agreement separately. Look for agreements concerning Viewing Information, voice features, and personalized or interest-based advertising. The available labels may differ by model or market.
- Withdraw consent or disable features you do not want. Follow the controls shown for each agreement or feature. LG says users can change selections later from User Agreements.
- Check the result on your TV. Reopen the agreement screen to confirm the selections. If you cannot find a control, consult support for your exact model and region rather than assuming a setting from another LG TV applies.
LG distinguishes required service terms from optional data-related agreements. Its U.S. support page says the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy are required for smart services such as Netflix and YouTube, while agreements for viewing information, voice features, and personalized ads are optional. Declining optional agreements may limit the related features; accepting the core terms does not mean you must accept every optional agreement.

ACR, or Automatic Content Recognition, is controlled through LG’s Viewing Information permission, not the separate advertising agreement. LG’s September 12, 2026 statement describes ACR as optional and off by default; it says a user must accept the Viewing Information Agreement to enable it and can withdraw that agreement or turn ACR off in TV settings. Check the agreement screen on your own model to see its current status and available control.

LG says its ACR system generates an audio fingerprint using the TV’s internal audio processor to identify content. LG says the feature does not collect screenshots, screen images, video recordings, voice recordings, or other audio recordings. These are LG’s descriptions, not findings from an independent technical audit.
What content sources does LG say ACR can cover?
According to LG, ACR may apply to supported sources such as Live TV, HDMI-connected devices, and LG Channels. LG says it does not apply to third-party apps such as Netflix or YouTube when those apps run through LG Apps. That distinction concerns LG’s ACR feature; it does not establish what information a third-party app may process under its own terms.

Is ACR the same as personalized advertising?
No. LG describes viewing information and interest-based advertising as separate permissions. It says ACR-related viewing information may be used for audience segmentation and analysis of viewing or audience trends. Interest-based and cross-device advertising require a separate agreement, which LG calls the Interest-Based Cross Device Advertising Agreement. Review both permissions if you want to limit both kinds of processing.

LG says that, depending on the market, agreements, and user choices, viewing information may be shared with LG Ad Solutions, a majority-owned affiliate. LG also says some sharing may count as a sale or sharing under local privacy laws. The applicable choices and legal treatment can therefore depend on where you live and which agreements you accepted.

Does my LG TV listen to conversations?
Voice features are separate from ACR. LG says voice-to-text begins only after activation through a supported wake word or by pressing the voice or AI button on a remote, and that wake-word detection is processed locally. LG also says records related to voice may be generated for specific interactions and that optional voice features can be managed in TV settings. These are LG’s statements, not an independent audit of the TV’s operation. If you do not use voice controls, review and withdraw consent for the relevant voice agreement or turn off the feature using your model’s settings.
What these settings do not turn off
Changing optional agreements is not the same as disabling every data flow connected with a smart TV. LG says core service terms are required for smart services, and its global privacy page identifies a separate Smart Media Product Membership Privacy Policy for Smart TV service data. LG says that policy is accessible through Account management or the LG Account menu in TV settings; the global policy page was last updated April 29, 2026. Individual app providers may also have their own privacy terms and data practices. Turning off LG’s ACR or advertising permissions does not by itself opt you out of processing by third-party apps or data needed to provide a service.

What if your LG TV does not show these controls?
LG cautions that menus vary by model. Use the agreement screen and help information for your TV’s exact model and region rather than relying on a single path for every set. Older models may use legacy controls: an LG LivePlus support PDF for specified older U.S. models, including models listed from 2012, gives the path Smart TV settings > LivePlus > Off. That is a model-specific legacy instruction, not the current universal route.
