Turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements on each relevant device. The setting is optional. If you do not use Siri AI, your device may instead show Improve Siri & Dictation; switch that off to opt out of that improvement program.
Turn off the improvement setting on each device
Use the path for your device and switch off the applicable option shown. Labels can vary by software version and platform, so follow the wording on your device.

- iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro: Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements, then turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence or, where shown, Improve Siri & Dictation.
- Apple Watch: Open Settings > General > Analytics & Improvements and turn off the applicable improvement setting.
- HomePod: A Home organiser can use the Home app on an iPhone or iPad. Open the HomePod’s Accessory Settings > Analytics & Improvements and turn off the applicable setting.

Apple says the choice made during setup can apply to new connected devices or supported HomeKit accessories set up with that iPhone or iPad when Siri is on. What the setting controls
When Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence is enabled, Apple says it may collect and use text and audio interactions with Siri, Dictation, and Translate, including conversations in the Siri app. This can include audio, request and response transcripts, and related data such as request category, device specifications, performance statistics, and approximate device location. Apple says this material may be used to improve Siri, Dictation, Search, Translate, other language-processing features, and Apple foundation models.

Apple says this history is linked to a random identifier generated by the device that rotates multiple times per hour, rather than an Apple Account or email address. Its notice says opted-in data may be retained for up to two years, while a small subset that has been reviewed may be kept longer. Some data may be reviewed by graders; Apple says audio review is performed only by its employees. These are Apple’s stated policy terms, not an independent audit. Apple also states: “Your request history is not used to build a marketing profile, and is never sold to anyone.”
Turning the setting off does not delete all earlier data
Switching off the improvement setting stops opting in going forward; it is separate from deleting eligible requests Apple already holds. Apple provides a way to delete Siri and Dictation requests—including audio recordings and computer-generated transcripts—associated with the random identifier. However, Apple says requests more than six months old and a small reviewed sample may no longer be associated with that identifier and may not be deletable through that mechanism. Related controls and what they do
Routine Siri processing is separate
Turning off model improvement does not mean Siri can provide every requested service without data being processed. Apple says Siri Settings on the device indicates whether spoken requests are handled on-device or sent to Apple servers. Its default Siri privacy notice says Apple does not store Siri audio unless the user opts in to Improve Siri and Dictation. See Apple’s Ask Siri, Dictation & Privacy notice.
Local transcripts and disabling Siri
Apple says disabling both Siri and Dictation deletes transcripts stored on the device and used to personalise the experience. Its Siri AI privacy notice also provides a path to turn off Siri and Dictation. This is a more disruptive choice because it disables those features; it is not required just to opt out of model improvement.

ChatGPT extension requests
If you enable the ChatGPT extension in Siri and opt in to Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence, Apple says it may include requests, audio recordings, transcripts, and the associated conversation in Siri and Dictation request history. That statement concerns Apple’s handling; it does not establish the separate provider’s retention practices.
