What you need to do
Use two playlists with clear names, such as Weekday Live Replays and Weekend Live Replays. Once a stream has ended and its archive is available, find it in Studio and assign it to the appropriate playlist. This is a manual sorting routine, not a documented weekday/weekend automation feature.

YouTube recommends organizing live-stream archives and highlight clips into playlists after an event. Separate day-based playlists are a practical way to apply that guidance when viewers expect different content on weekdays and weekends.

Open YouTube Studio and select Content, then the Live tab. YouTube’s archive instructions direct creators to this area to locate completed stream archives.

Select the completed stream and open its details. Review its visibility and other metadata if needed.

Add the archive to your weekday or weekend playlist, according to the day category you use for the stream. Save any changes you made in the details.

Repeat this after each event, using the same naming and assignment rule so viewers can predict where a replay will appear.

YouTube’s official material establishes the archive location and recommends playlist organization, but does not specify an exact current control sequence for adding an archive to a playlist. Studio labels and details can change, so use the playlist option available for the selected video rather than relying on an assumed day-based setting.

Keep the playlist split useful
Choose a consistent rule
Decide whether “weekday” and “weekend” refer to the day the stream was broadcast or another schedule convention used by your channel. Apply that definition consistently; otherwise, viewers may not know which list to check.
Use scheduling for planning, not replay sorting
YouTube lets creators schedule streams and reuse prior stream settings. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me.” These scheduling and promotion features do not establish that a future archive will be assigned automatically to a weekday or weekend playlist.

When choosing a recurring cadence, YouTube’s schedule advice suggests considering how often you stream, whether the pace is sustainable, what structure determines what comes when, and whether content is tied to particular days. If you change the schedule, communicate that change to viewers.

Separate lists versus one archive list
Two lists make the day-based distinction visible and can help returning viewers browse a predictable format. A single archive playlist takes less upkeep but combines both categories. Choose the structure that best matches how viewers look for your past streams; either way, add each archive deliberately.

Check that the stream was archived
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. If a completed stream is missing from the Live tab, check whether it exceeded that duration and whether you have a local recording before assuming it can be added to a playlist.
Common problems

The replay is not in the Live tab: Allow for the archive to become available, then check Studio’s Content section and Live tab. For a stream longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns that it may not be captured; a local archive can provide a backup.

The replay is in the wrong list: Open its details in Studio and change its playlist assignment using the available video controls. Keep the channel’s weekday/weekend rule consistent to prevent repeat mistakes.

You expected the replay to route automatically: The documented workflow is to organize archives into playlists after the event. No day-of-week routing control is established in YouTube’s guidance reviewed here.
