First, check the affected stream’s Auto-start setting in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then check what your streaming computer launches at startup. Auto-start lets an encoder start a stream; if a reboot also launches or reconnects the encoder, that may explain an unexpected broadcast restart. It does not, by itself, establish that YouTube created a new scheduled event. If Studio shows a genuinely new event, investigate the software or automation that schedules streams.
First determine what “new event” means
A scheduled event and a stream sent by an encoder are separate parts of YouTube Live. A scheduled stream is created through the Manage workflow in Live Control Room. An encoder sends video to YouTube using a stream URL and key. YouTube allows a custom stream key to be reused, but a reusable key alone is not documented as creating scheduled events. - A new scheduled event appears in Studio: Find out which app, script, service, or other automation created it. The YouTube Help pages cited here explain how to schedule a stream, but do not say that rebooting a computer creates an event.
- The existing stream starts broadcasting again: Check Auto-start and whether the encoder is launched or reconnects automatically when the host starts.
Check the event list and timestamps around the reboot before changing settings. That helps distinguish a new event from an existing stream setup receiving encoder output again.

- Open YouTube Studio and select Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the affected stream’s settings and inspect Auto-start and Auto-stop.
- Turn Auto-start off if an encoder reconnect should not start the broadcast without an operator’s deliberate action.
- Save the change if Studio prompts you to do so, then verify the setting on the specific stream you use.
YouTube describes Auto-start and Auto-stop as settings that let a creator start or stop streaming from the encoder. This makes Auto-start a plausible explanation for an unwanted start after a reboot, not proof that every reboot triggers one. Read YouTube’s explanation of stream settings.

Check copied streams too
If you created the stream with Reuse settings, YouTube says the copied stream retains the original Auto-start and Auto-stop selections. Inspect the copied stream’s settings rather than assuming they reverted to defaults.
Inspect what runs when the host reboots
On the computer or server that runs your encoder, review application preferences and any operating-system startup automation. Look for settings or components that launch the encoder at login or boot, reopen a radio playlist, or reconnect automatically after losing the connection. Depending on your setup, these might be a service, scheduled task, startup script, or a third-party streaming tool.

This is a diagnostic check based on the timing of the problem, not a YouTube-documented reboot control. If disabling Auto-start stops the broadcast but Studio still shows a newly scheduled event, the event-creation automation remains to be found.

- For a scheduled stream that you intend to finish, use End Stream in YouTube’s live workflow.
- Stop the encoder’s transmission as well. YouTube’s instructions say to end the stream and stop encoder output; its live-stream tips also advise stopping the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube.
- Confirm that the event has ended in Studio before leaving the encoder or its automation running unattended.
Ending the event and stopping the sender are complementary actions: one closes the YouTube broadcast, while the other stops further encoder output. See the scheduled-stream instructions and YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips.

If the encoder reports a stream-key error
A key error can prevent an encoder from starting, but changing the key is not a general remedy for unwanted event creation. If you are troubleshooting an actual encoder startup error, YouTube recommends copying a stream key from Live Control Room and updating the encoder with it. Follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps.
