To simulcast to YouTube and Twitch, prepare a YouTube Live stream, then use an encoder that can send the same program to both platforms or a relay that distributes one feed to both. Confirm that YouTube Live is enabled, have each platform’s stream settings ready if your setup asks for them, check your upload capacity, and test both outputs before the event. Twitch permits simulcasting unless an agreement requires exclusivity, but its rules require a comparable viewing experience and prohibit directing Twitch viewers to the concurrent stream elsewhere.
Before you start
- YouTube eligibility: Your channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions within the past 90 days, and have YouTube Live enabled. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours, so do not leave it until the day of the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Two receiving destinations: You need a way to deliver the same program to YouTube and Twitch. That can be a multiple-output encoder or a relay service. Depending on the setup, you may need the stream URL and key for each platform; an encoder may handle destination setup for you.
- A stable upload connection: The required upload capacity depends on your encoder settings and whether your setup sends one feed or multiple outbound feeds. There is no single upload-speed number that fits every configuration. YouTube identifies sufficient upload speed as critical for simulstreaming in its guide to streaming across platforms.
- Rights to the content: Confirm that you have the rights needed to stream the video, music, and other material in your program on both platforms. A platform accepting a stream does not establish that you have permission to use its contents.
Choose how to send the stream to both platforms
| Approach | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple-output encoder | The encoder sends the program to YouTube and Twitch as separate destinations. | Confirm that your encoder supports both destinations in its current version and that your connection can sustain the resulting outbound traffic. |
| Third-party relay | You send one feed to a relay, which distributes it to YouTube and Twitch. | Check that the relay supports both current platform workflows and works with your encoder. Its requirements and account terms depend on the provider. |
The cited platform guidance establishes the general destination and bandwidth requirements; it does not verify or rank particular encoder or relay products. If cross-platform chat matters, decide whether you need a way to view both chats. Twitch says creators may use tools that combine activity from other platforms, such as chat, for personal use; the use of such a tool is not, by itself, a simulcasting violation.

Set up the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select the stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the stream URL and key workflow.
- If your encoder or relay asks for YouTube’s destination details, copy the URL and stream key from the stream settings into that destination. Some encoder workflows handle the connection without asking you to enter them manually.
- Treat the stream key as a credential. YouTube describes it as a password and address for the stream. Do not publish or share it; if it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder or relay that uses it.
Configure Twitch and connect both destinations
- Use Twitch’s current creator workflow to obtain or select the destination settings for your stream.
- Add YouTube and Twitch as destinations in your multiple-output encoder, or configure the relay to distribute the feed to both. Exact controls vary by product, so follow the current instructions for the encoder or relay you chose rather than assuming every interface uses the same labels.
- Choose output settings that both destinations and your connection can handle. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers supported settings and explains that YouTube transcodes streams into multiple output formats, but that does not guarantee a particular viewing result for every YouTube viewer or for Twitch. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.
Test before the event, then monitor both feeds
- Run a test with representative speech, music you are entitled to use, and movement similar to the planned program. Testing only a static screen may not reveal issues that occur with motion or sound.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and confirm that the Twitch destination page is receiving the stream too.
- Listen for clear audio, inspect the picture, and check each platform’s stream status. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring in its streaming tips.
- Once live, keep an eye on both outputs and your connection. A healthy preview on one platform does not prove that the other destination is working correctly.
- End the stream using the controls required by your encoder and platform workflow. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; see its encoder instructions.
Follow Twitch’s simulcasting rules
Twitch’s Simulcasting Guidelines FAQ applies unless your agreement with Twitch requires exclusivity. Its requirements concern the viewer experience and how you address the audience, not just the technical act of sending a feed to two destinations.

Keep the quality at least comparable.
- You may identify in your profile that you are present on other platforms, but do not actively promote another live-streaming service during the Twitch stream or tell Twitch viewers to leave for the concurrent broadcast.
- Twitch states: “Twitch may not be used to drive users to a live stream on another platform or service.”
Twitch says it may issue a warning before enforcement. If you have an agreement that may require exclusivity, check its terms before simulcasting.

Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely checks | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube is not available as a destination | Live streaming may not be enabled, the channel may not meet eligibility requirements, or first activation may still be processing. | Check channel verification and live-streaming status, including restrictions in the past 90 days. Enable YouTube Live in advance because first activation can take at least 24 hours. |
| One platform receives the stream but the other does not | A destination may be missing or misconfigured, or its URL or key may be incorrect when entered manually. | Check the destination settings for both platforms in your encoder or relay. If you changed or reset a key, update the corresponding destination. |
| Picture or sound is unstable | The chosen settings may exceed the available upload capacity, or the connection may not be stable enough for the setup. | Check the encoder’s stream health and the connection’s available upload capacity. Test with representative audio and motion, and adjust settings to suit your configuration. |
| A stream key may have been exposed | Someone who has the key may be able to use it to connect to your stream. | Reset the compromised key in YouTube Live Control Room, then replace it in the encoder or relay. |
| Twitch viewers are being sent to the YouTube stream | A spoken callout, on-screen prompt, or other active promotion may direct Twitch viewers to the concurrent stream. | Remove the direction to leave Twitch and review the simulcasting rules before the next broadcast. |
Cost and connection notes
A multiple-output encoder and a relay differ in where the distribution happens: the encoder may send multiple outbound feeds from your connection, while a relay receives and redistributes a feed. Check what your chosen products require before the event; the platform guidance does not establish a universal cost, bandwidth requirement, or product recommendation. A wired Ethernet connection can be a practical way to connect an encoder computer to your network, but a cable does not increase the upload capacity provided by your internet service.

StreamNeo is a different option, not a way to simulcast: it keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos and playlists, and it streams to YouTube only. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so nothing has to stay on at home; it plays the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
