Offworld Industries says the preview is open to everyone, but you must enlist at alpha.joinsquad.com, then add the free Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview listing to the same PlayStation account you will use on your console. The time-limited preview runs from October 16 through October 25, 2026, so access and store visibility can change while the test is live.
What the Squad PS5 alpha access model actually is
The 2026 console preview is an open-enlistment test, not a closed wave in which only selected email recipients can play. In its October 16, 2026 announcement, Offworld Industries states: “The alpha preview is open to all, but you will need to enlist HERE.” The “HERE” destination is alpha.joinsquad.com.

That wording explains the apparent contradiction many players encounter: an enlistment step is required, but a personal invite code is not. Completing the enlistment is the access request. You then claim the free alpha product through the PlayStation Store and download it to the PS5 account that completed the process.

Before you start: accounts and equipment
Use the PSN account that will play
Sign in to the PlayStation Network account you intend to use for the alpha before you claim the store listing. The listing says online features require a PlayStation account. Adding the preview under one account and then launching it under another can make the product appear to be missing, even when the console itself is online.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Have a PS5 and an online connection
The preview is a PS5 download. You need the console, its controller, and enough storage for the installation; the official materials supplied for this guide do not state a download size or storage requirement, so check the listing on your console for the current figure. A headset is useful for Squad’s team communication, but it is not an enlistment requirement.
Do not look for a physical edition
Offworld’s FAQ says the console version will be digital-only and will not have a physical edition. A game disc, boxed code, or retail purchase therefore cannot unlock this alpha. The access path is enlistment followed by the free PlayStation Store listing.
Step-by-step: enlist for the alpha
- Open the official enlistment page. On a phone, computer, or PS5 browser, go to alpha.joinsquad.com. Verify the address before entering information; this is the destination identified in Offworld Industries’ announcement.
- Complete the enlistment form. Follow the fields and confirmation prompts shown on the page. The announcement does not publish a separate invite-code step, so do not treat an email invite as a prerequisite for this open preview.
- Finish any confirmation page. Wait until the site indicates that enlistment has been submitted. If the page returns to the form without confirmation, repeat the process in a current browser or disable an extension that may be blocking the page.
- Switch to the PlayStation Store. On the PS5, open the PlayStation Store and search for Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview. The listing is marked Free Beta; make sure you are not selecting a different game or a future commercial release page.
- Select the free claim action. Choose Add to Library, or the equivalent free-store action displayed for your account. No payment or physical product is required.
- Download from the same account. Start the download while signed in to the PSN account that you plan to use for play. After installation, launch the alpha from that account’s game library.
The exact wording of a button can vary by store interface and region. The important sequence is enlistment, locate the PS5 Alpha Preview listing, add it to the library, and download it with the intended PSN account.
How to check whether your access is ready
There is no published personal-invite checker, invite-code workflow, or detailed region matrix for this event. Instead, verify the account and product trail below.
- Confirm enlistment. Return to alpha.joinsquad.com and make sure the site accepted your submission. If you cannot establish that it did, complete the enlistment again.
- Check the signed-in PSN identity. On the PS5, open your profile and verify the account name. It must be the account used to claim the preview; switching users can hide the library entitlement.
- Search the Store directly. Find Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview, not a standard product page. Confirm that the page identifies the item as a PS5 alpha preview and shows the free claim or download control.
- Inspect the game library. Open Game Library, use the collection or search filters, and look for the alpha. If it is listed there, select it to begin or resume the download.
- Check the download queue. A queued, paused, or failed download can make the game look unavailable. Open Downloads/Uploads, resume it, and allow the installation to complete before launching.
- Verify the store region. The console’s active PSN account controls which PlayStation Store catalog you see. The official materials do not publish a full region-by-region availability table, so a missing listing may be regional rather than an invitation failure.
What to do when the alpha is not in your library
The enlistment page was never completed
If you only read the announcement or opened the page without submitting its form, you have not enlisted. Reopen alpha.joinsquad.com, submit the required details, and wait for the page’s confirmation before returning to the Store.
You claimed it with a different PSN account
Store entitlements are associated with the account that claims them. Sign out of any secondary user on the console, sign in to the account used during the claim, and search the Store and Game Library again. If another household account needs to play, first establish whether console sharing is enabled; the supplied alpha materials do not promise cross-account access.
The Store page appears, but there is no download button
Open the full product page rather than a search suggestion, then look for Add to Library or its equivalent. Restart the Store, sign out and back in, and check the listing again. Store labels can differ by region and can change during a time-limited test.

The product is not visible at all
Confirm that the console is using the intended regional PSN account and that the date is within the scheduled October 16–25, 2026 window. The announcement and listing do not provide a separate invite checker or a published region matrix. If the page remains absent after the account and date checks, use Offworld’s official support/contact route and monitor its announcement channels for an availability update.
The download starts but will not finish
Check the PS5 download queue for an error, verify free storage, and retry the download over a stable connection. A temporary Store or network interruption does not indicate that an invite is missing. If the error persists, record the exact code and contact official PlayStation support or Offworld support rather than purchasing a disc or code, neither of which grants access to this digital preview.
The game installs but will not connect
Make sure the console is online and that you launched the preview from the PSN account that claimed it. The Store listing says online features require a PlayStation account. Scheduled test maintenance or a service interruption can also prevent a session from starting; check the official announcement channels for a current status before changing account settings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What you can play in the preview
This is a limited technical preview rather than the complete console game. The Store description says players first complete two training activities:
- Infantry Training: an introduction to the ground-combat controls and procedures.
- Pilot Training: a separate lesson for aircraft operation.
After training, the listed playable content is a limited Invasion Mode skirmish on Gorodok. Offworld describes the preview as 50-versus-50 combat and says console player-versus-player matches will support up to 100 players. The Store listing similarly states support for up to 99 online players, so the practical expectation is a large-scale match with a maximum around 100 participants; the two official descriptions use different phrasing for the cap.
Do not assume that every mode, map, faction, weapon, or progression system from a later release is present. The supplied preview description establishes Infantry Training, Pilot Training, and the Gorodok Invasion Mode scenario; it does not promise the full eventual console feature set.
Dates, availability, and why the page may disappear
| Date or label | What it means |
|---|---|
| October 16, 2026 | Offworld Industries’ announcement date and the Store release date shown for the preview. |
| October 16–25, 2026 | The announced preview window, ending Sunday, October 25. |
| PS5 Alpha Preview | The product identity to search for in the PlayStation Store. |
| Free Beta | The Store label attached to the listing; it does not mean a paid purchase is required. |
Because this is a scheduled test, Store visibility can change during or after the window. A listing that was available on October 16 may be withdrawn after the test closes, and a region may display it at a different time. Check the Store page itself before troubleshooting hardware or buying anything.
Common mistakes that look like an invitation problem
- Waiting for an email: open enlistment means you should complete the website process instead of waiting for a selective invite message.
- Searching for the wrong title: use the exact Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview name and confirm the PS5 and Free Beta labels.
- Using another household profile: the game may be claimed on one PSN account while you search from another.
- Checking only the home screen: a successful claim may appear first in Game Library or the download queue.
- Assuming a physical copy helps: Offworld says the console edition is digital-only, so a disc or boxed code is not an access route.
- Ignoring the test dates: the preview is limited to October 16–25, 2026; availability outside that window is not established by the announcement.
What is and is not officially confirmed
The confirmed access facts are straightforward: enlist at the official alpha page, claim the free PS5 Store listing, and use the same PSN account to download and play. The official materials do not establish a personal invite lookup tool, a universal region list, a separate invite-code process, a download-size requirement, or guaranteed access from a different account on the same console. Treat third-party claims about those items cautiously unless Offworld or PlayStation publishes an update.

The preview content is also narrower than a full release: training for infantry and pilots followed by the Gorodok Invasion Mode scenario. The stated scale is 50 versus 50, with console PvP described as supporting up to 100 players and the Store listing specifying up to 99 online players. Those figures describe the preview’s advertised capacity, not a guarantee that every match will reach the maximum.
Fast checklist before contacting support
- Enlisted at alpha.joinsquad.com.
- Used the intended PSN account on both the Store and PS5.
- Located Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview and selected Add to Library or the equivalent action.
- Checked Game Library and Downloads/Uploads, not only the home screen.
- Confirmed the PS5’s regional Store account is the one you meant to use.
- Checked that the date falls within October 16–25, 2026.
- Confirmed the console is online and the PS5 account can use online features.
If all seven checks pass and the listing is still absent, provide Offworld’s official support/contact team with your PSN region, account status, enlistment result, Store behavior, and any displayed error code. Those details let support distinguish an account entitlement issue from a regional listing or service problem.
