Use YouTube Giving’s native Donate button when the money is for an eligible nonprofit and your channel qualifies. If YouTube Giving is unavailable, place a legitimate external fundraiser link in the stream description, then use a short on-screen or spoken cue such as “Support [recipient] — link in description.” Do not paste a raw URL into live chat: YouTube does not allow URLs there. Confirm whether your broadcast is horizontal or vertical, because link support differs between those formats.
Decide what kind of support you are collecting
Before adding any link, identify the recipient and the purpose of the payment. A donation to a gurdwara, registered charity or other nonprofit is different from financial support sent to the channel operator. Describe the arrangement accurately so viewers are not led to believe that creator support is a charitable donation.

YouTube Giving is the clearest option when an eligible nonprofit is the beneficiary. YouTube says donations made through YouTube Giving go to eligible nonprofits, and YouTube covers transaction fees so the donated amount reaches the nonprofit. Donations made through YouTube Giving are non-refundable. Read the current YouTube Giving donation guidance before publishing the appeal.

If the money goes directly to the channel, a streaming ministry, a gurdwara account or another organizer rather than through an eligible nonprofit fundraiser, call it support, contribution or another accurate term. Super Chat and Super Stickers are paid fan-funding features; YouTube’s commerce policy states that “Fan funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools.” They should not be presented as charitable donations.

Check YouTube Giving eligibility
YouTube’s current setup guidance lists general requirements that include membership in the YouTube Partner Program, at least 10,000 subscribers, a supported location and a channel that is not designated Made for Kids. Availability can change by country and over time, so confirm the fundraiser option inside YouTube Studio rather than relying on an old checklist. The current requirements and setup flow are documented by Google for Nonprofits.
- Open YouTube Studio and look for the fundraising or YouTube Giving option attached to your eligible channel.
- Search for the nonprofit in the fundraiser picker. If it does not appear, do not imply that it is covered by YouTube Giving.
- Check the fundraiser’s start date, beneficiary name and campaign description before attaching it to a broadcast.
- If your channel, country or nonprofit is not supported, use a properly documented external fundraiser instead.
For a Gurbani stream associated with a gurdwara or community institution, confirm the exact recipient name and wording with that organization. YouTube’s platform documentation does not establish one universal donation appeal style for Sikh communities.
Attach a YouTube Giving fundraiser to a scheduled stream
Eligible creators can add a YouTube Giving fundraiser to a video or a scheduled live stream. The Donate button appears on the watch page or in live chat after the fundraiser’s start date; it is not necessarily visible while you are still configuring the event.

- Create or select the fundraiser. In YouTube Studio, open the fundraising workflow, choose the eligible nonprofit and enter the purpose in plain language. Verify spelling and the campaign dates.
- Schedule the live event. Use the scheduled live-stream editor rather than treating an already-running broadcast as a newly configured fundraiser. Select the fundraiser in the stream’s fundraising section.
- Review the public view. Open the watch page as a viewer, preferably in a private browser window or while signed out, and confirm that the Donate button and beneficiary information are visible after the start date.
- Explain the destination. Add one sentence to the description naming the nonprofit and what the appeal supports. Keep the on-screen message consistent with the fundraiser details.
Use YouTube’s Donate to a nonprofit with YouTube Giving help page for the current Studio labels, since interface names and availability can change.
If YouTube Giving is unavailable: use an external fundraiser
Choose a legitimate fundraiser page operated by or for the named nonprofit. YouTube’s fundraising guidance gives GoFundMe and JustGiving as examples of third-party fundraising sites for eligible campaigns; that reference is not an endorsement or an indication of an affiliate relationship.
Put the destination in the stream description
Paste the complete fundraiser URL into the associated description before you start the 24/7 broadcast. Put it near the top, state who receives the money and identify the purpose. A viewer should be able to understand the recipient without opening several pages.

Use a short visual or spoken cue
For a continuous Gurbani broadcast, add a restrained text cue to the video layout, such as “Support the [named organization] fundraiser — link in description.” You can also repeat the sentence in an occasional voice announcement if the program format allows it. Treat the overlay as a direction to the description, not as a guaranteed clickable YouTube control: the cited help pages do not document a universal clickable-overlay feature for live video.

YouTube specifically recommends an end screen for an external fundraiser on eligible video formats. End screens occupy the final 5–20 seconds of a video. A 24/7 live broadcast does not have a normal ending, so an end screen is not a persistent replacement for the description and on-screen cue. If you publish a replay or a separate recorded announcement, check whether that video supports an end screen and add the fundraiser there.
Live-chat and format limitations
Do not post the raw donation URL in live chat. YouTube’s live-stream help says that URLs are not allowed in live-chat messages; its stated rule is that special characters, URLs and HTML tags are not allowed in Live Chat. Ask viewers to open the description or use the native Donate button instead.
Link behavior also depends on the live format. YouTube’s format comparison indicates that horizontal streams support clickable links in chat and the channel description, while vertical live feeds do not provide the same link support. Test the viewer experience in the exact format you plan to run, on both a phone and a desktop browser.
- Horizontal live stream: keep the fundraiser in the description and direct viewers there; do not assume a chat URL will be accepted.
- Vertical live feed: rely more heavily on the native Donate button, where available, and clear description wording because link support is more limited.
- Embedded player: check the page where the player is embedded. A viewer may not see the same surrounding description or chat controls that appear on YouTube.

Write a transparent donation message
A donation appeal should answer four questions without forcing viewers to search:

- Who receives the money? Use the legal or publicly used name of the nonprofit, gurdwara or organizing body.
- What does it support? Give a specific purpose, such as langar, building work, education or a named relief campaign, only when the organizer can substantiate it.
- Where is the link? Say “Donate button on this watch page” for YouTube Giving or “link in the description” for an external page.
- What happens after clicking? Tell viewers if they will leave YouTube for an external fundraiser.
Example description copy:
“Support [organization’s full name] through the fundraiser below. Funds are intended for [specific purpose]. This is an external fundraising page; the organization, not this channel, processes the contribution. Open the link in the description to review the recipient and terms.”
Replace every bracketed phrase with verified information before publishing. Do not claim that a nonprofit receives money, that a campaign is tax-deductible or that a target will be met unless the organizer’s documentation supports that statement. YouTube says it does not verify that creator-pledged donations reach a nonprofit, so an external appeal requires especially careful disclosure.
Keep the Gurbani stream technically and editorially compliant
Copyright and rights to the recording
A donation link does not grant permission to broadcast Gurbani recordings, kirtan performances, translations, artwork or background audio. Confirm that the channel or organizing body has the necessary rights to every recording and visual used in the loop. A continuous stream can still receive a Content ID claim, takedown or interruption if material is used without permission.

A 24/7 loop should add genuine value and should not be presented as a live event if it is only a repeated recording. Review YouTube’s current monetization and reused-content rules in Studio, identify the source of each recording and avoid misleading labels. A donation appeal should never be used to disguise ownership or licensing problems.
Accurate stream metadata
Use a title and description that make clear whether the broadcast is a continuous Gurbani program, a playlist of recordings or a scheduled service. If the video is pre-recorded, do not imply that performers are currently singing live. Accurate metadata helps viewers understand both the program and the donation destination.

Pre-launch checklist for the donation destination
- Confirm whether the beneficiary is an eligible nonprofit or whether the appeal is direct channel support.
- Check YouTube Giving availability, including the current channel, subscriber, YPP, location and Made for Kids requirements.
- Verify the beneficiary name, campaign purpose, start date and external URL.
- Place the external URL near the top of the stream description.
- Add a short overlay or spoken cue that points viewers to the description without claiming that the overlay itself is clickable.
- Remove any raw URL from planned live-chat messages.
- Test the watch page in horizontal and vertical layouts, on desktop and mobile.
- Open the fundraiser as a viewer and confirm that the destination, recipient and purpose are understandable.
- Check that every Gurbani recording, image and translation is licensed or otherwise authorized.

Troubleshooting common donation-link problems
The Donate button is missing
Check whether the fundraiser has reached its start date, whether the channel still meets YouTube Giving requirements and whether the selected nonprofit is eligible in your location. Reopen the stream’s fundraising settings in Studio and test the public watch page rather than relying on the creator view.
The external URL does not appear in chat
That is expected under YouTube’s live-chat rule. Keep the URL in the description and tell viewers where to find it. Do not evade the restriction by inserting spaces, symbols or HTML tags into a chat message.
Viewers on phones cannot find the link
Check whether they are watching a vertical live feed or an embedded player, where surrounding links may be less visible. Put the destination at the beginning of the description and repeat the short “link in description” cue periodically in the program.
The overlay is visible but not clickable
Use the overlay as a label, not as a promised button. The reliable action is for the viewer to open the description or use YouTube Giving’s native Donate control. If you publish a separate recorded announcement, consider an end screen during its final 5–20 seconds.
Viewers ask whether the money reaches the nonprofit
Name the processing route. YouTube Giving donations go to eligible nonprofits through YouTube’s system, while an external fundraiser is handled by the linked organizer or platform. Do not make a guarantee that the channel cannot substantiate.
The stream stops while the donation page still works
Separate the two failures. Check the YouTube stream status, encoder or cloud service, stream key and rights notices independently from the fundraiser URL. If you use a home computer, inspect power, operating-system updates, internet stability and encoder logs. What viewers should see
