To share your screen during a video meeting, choose Share or Present in the meeting controls, select what to show, and allow any screen-capture permission prompt. Share one app or window when possible to keep unrelated activity private. If people need to hear a clip, enable the meeting app’s separate audio-sharing option, then stop sharing when you are done.
Choose what participants can see
Meeting apps may let you share your entire screen, a specific app window, a browser tab, or other content. A whole-screen share can reveal other apps, files, and notifications as you move around. A single window or tab is usually the more private choice when it contains everything you need to present.

- Before sharing your whole screen: close or hide private material and turn off notifications if needed.
- If you select the wrong content: stop sharing, choose the intended screen or window, and start again.
Zoom says hosts and participants cannot see your screen without your permission or without you knowing. Once you choose to share, however, participants can see the contents of the selected screen as you use it. Zoom’s screen-sharing security guidance explains this distinction.
Share in a meeting
- Join the meeting and find Share, Share screen, or Present in the meeting controls.
- Select the screen, app window, tab, or other content you want to show. Choose a specific window or tab rather than the whole screen when it meets your needs.
- Allow the browser or operating system to capture your screen if it asks for permission.
- If you are presenting audio, turn on the app’s audio-sharing option and check whether it shares tab, window, or all system audio.
- When finished, select Stop sharing, Stop presenting, or the equivalent control.
The names and available choices vary by service, device, and operating system. For Zoom and Teams, sharing starts from the meeting controls; Google’s instructions for Android use the meeting’s More menu.

Platform-specific steps and audio options
| Platform and device | Start sharing | Audio | Stop sharing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoom | Select the share control, then choose from the content types available in that meeting and on your device. Options can include a desktop, application, portion of a screen, or other sources. | Zoom lists device audio among its sharing options; available choices depend on device and meeting context. | Use the meeting’s stop-sharing control. |
| Microsoft Teams, desktop | In the meeting controls, select Share, then choose an entire screen or a window. | Select Include sound to send computer audio. This can include notifications. In Teams for web, a tab share can include tab audio, while a window or full-screen share can include system audio. Microsoft says Mac computer-audio sharing requires a Teams audio driver. | Select Stop presenting. |
| Microsoft Teams, mobile | Choose a content type, then start presenting or broadcasting. | Options depend on the device and sharing mode. | Use the corresponding stop control. |
| Google Meet, Android | Join the meeting, tap the screen, tap More, choose Share screen, then tap Start Sharing. | If the Present to everyone prompt shows an audio checkbox, select it to share audio. The option is not available on every device; muting the microphone stops the shared audio. | Tap Stop sharing and confirm if prompted. |
Use the official instructions for the current controls on your device: Zoom screen sharing, sharing content in Teams meetings, sharing computer sound in Teams, and sharing your screen in Google Meet on Android.
Fix common screen-sharing problems
The share control is missing or unavailable
The meeting host or organization may have disabled participant sharing. Check with the host, and check the service’s meeting or permission settings. Zoom documents controls for enabling or disabling participant sharing in its screen-sharing help.

See Microsoft’s Teams sharing instructions and Google Meet troubleshooting.

Participants cannot hear the video or other audio
Enable the app’s audio-sharing option and check which share scope it applies to. Teams’ Include sound can send all computer audio, including notifications; in Teams for web, tab sharing can include tab audio, while window or full-screen sharing can include system audio. On Mac, Teams computer-audio sharing requires a Teams audio driver. Meet’s Android audio checkbox appears only on supported devices, and muting the microphone stops the shared audio. For Meet window or desktop audio sharing, Google specifies macOS 14.2 or Windows 11 or newer; that requirement applies to this audio-sharing mode, not every Meet share.
