For a live stream without home controls, Google’s link-sharing option is narrower, but it is available only for Nest app cameras and is set up on a computer.
Choose between home access and a camera link
The two methods expose different things. A home invitation can share access to cameras and other Nest products in that home. A camera link shares only the live stream from one eligible camera. Google’s Nest camera live video guidance describes both methods and their limits.

| What the viewer gets | Invite them to the home | Share a camera link |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Access to the home’s Nest products | Live stream from one Nest app camera |
| Password | Uses the invited person’s account access | Public links need no password; password-protected links need both the link and password |
| Recorded video history | Available if the camera has a Google Home Premium or Nest Aware subscription | Not available |
| Alerts | The invited person can receive alerts | Not available |
| Controls and settings | Home members can control Nest products and change settings | Not available |
| Camera app eligibility | Invite through the app managing the home | Only cameras managed in the Nest app |
Invite someone to your Google Home or Nest home
Use this option when you intend to share more than a single live stream. Home members can see live video from all cameras in that home, receive alerts, and—when the relevant subscription is active—view recorded history. They can also access and control other Nest products, change settings, and remove products, so this is broader than a camera-viewing invitation.
- Open the Google Home app or Nest app that manages your home.
- Send an invitation to the person from the home’s member-sharing settings.
- Have the recipient accept the invitation using their account.
Google says a Nest home can be shared with up to 20 people under the access arrangements described on its Family Accounts and Nest home access page. That figure is for home access, not camera-link viewers.

Share a live stream with a Nest camera link
Camera-only link sharing is for cameras managed in the Nest app. Google’s documented setup requires a computer and home.nest.com; these steps do not apply to cameras managed only in the Google Home app.
- On a computer, sign in at home.nest.com.
- Select the camera, then open Settings and Camera sharing.
- Choose either a password-protected link or a public link, agree to share, and copy the generated link.
- For a password-protected link, share the password separately with the intended viewers.
A public link lets anyone who obtains it watch the live stream without a password. A password-protected link requires both the link and password; Google states that up to 10 people can watch that stream simultaneously. Its password rules require at least eight characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, at least one number and one symbol, and a password different from the Nest app sign-in password. Google also says not to share your account password with anyone.

Link viewers can watch live video, but they cannot see recorded history, receive alerts, or control the camera. The generated link cannot be customized. You can change its password in the camera-sharing settings; if you stop sharing and later enable it again, Google generates a new link.

Remove a home member
Remove the person from the home-member list in the app used to manage the home. If access was shared through the Google Home app, Google says only a home manager using that app can remove the person. See Google’s home access and member-removal guidance.
