You can play Xbox cloud games on a TV without owning an Xbox console if your exact TV or streaming device is supported. Check the model and software version first, then install or open the Xbox app, sign in with an Xbox/Microsoft account, connect a compatible controller, and choose a cloud-enabled game. You’ll also need a supported Game Pass plan, service availability in your region, and a reliable internet connection.
What you need before you start
Cloud gaming runs the game remotely and streams the video to your TV; it does not require an Xbox console in your home. The TV or streaming device still needs to be one of the models supported for the Xbox app. A brand name on the bezel is not enough to establish compatibility.

- A supported device: Xbox identifies select LG and Samsung TVs, selected Amazon Fire TV devices, and compatible VIDAA OS televisions, including supported Hisense models. Eligibility depends on the model, software and rollout status.
- An eligible account and plan: You need an Xbox/Microsoft account and a Game Pass plan that currently includes cloud gaming on your device and in your region. Plan terms have changed over time and may differ by platform.
- A compatible gamepad: Most games require a controller. Bluetooth support depends on the TV or streaming device, so check compatibility for both the controller and the device.
- Internet access: Xbox recommends at least 20 Mbps for stable cloud gaming. A faster speed test alone does not guarantee a responsive stream.
Xbox’s device page, accessed October 13, 2026, identifies supported device categories but does not establish a complete model list for every brand. Before buying a TV, streaming device or controller for this purpose, verify the exact model using Xbox’s current device-compatibility information and the manufacturer’s support details.

Check whether your TV or streaming device is supported
Compatibility is the first decision, not something to assume after purchasing a subscription. Check the TV’s full model number, its operating-system version and your country or region. A feature may be announced for a platform before an update reaches every eligible model.

| Device path | What Xbox’s guidance establishes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| VIDAA TV, including supported Hisense models | Xbox’s July 30, 2026 rollout instructions require VIDAA OS 9.6 or later and describe opening the Xbox app from Home Page or Games. | Exact TV model, whether OS 9.6 or later is available for it, and whether the rollout has reached your TV and region. Xbox notes that the update may not yet be available on every supported television and directs owners to VIDAA support for model details. |
| LG Smart TV | Xbox’s April 23, 2025 guide lists 2025 LG TVs and TVs running webOS 24 or later, including 2022 OLED models and selected 2023 models after a firmware update. | Exact model, webOS and firmware version, and whether the Xbox app is available through the Gaming Portal or app store on that TV. |
| Samsung Smart TV | Xbox lists select Samsung TVs as a supported streaming platform. | Exact supported model, regional availability and app access. The sources available for this guide do not establish an exhaustive current model list. |
| Amazon Fire TV device | Xbox lists selected Fire TV devices and says to install and launch the Xbox app on a supported device. | Exact Fire TV model and regional availability. The sources available for this guide do not establish an exhaustive current device list. |
For LG, the app route depends on the TV generation and software: 2025 TVs use the Gaming Portal route described by Xbox, while eligible older sets may need the app downloaded from the app store. For VIDAA, the stated minimum version is OS 9.6. Do not infer support for an older software version, a neighboring model number or a different region from those examples.
Confirm the Game Pass plan and game you want to play
Xbox’s December 19, 2025 getting-started guide says Game Pass Essential, Premium and Ultimate include unlimited cloud gaming. That is a dated general Xbox statement, not a guarantee that every plan works on every device or in every country. Xbox’s April 2025 LG launch announcement specified Game Pass Ultimate for that launch. Check the current plan terms for your platform before subscribing; do not assume the LG launch-era requirement is still identical, or that general plan eligibility overrides platform-specific terms.
Cloud access also does not mean every game in the Game Pass library can be streamed. Xbox said on December 19, 2025 that more than two thirds of its Game Pass library was cloud-enabled at that time. The catalog changes, and Xbox says availability varies by time, region, device and plan. Look for a cloud-play option for the particular title you intend to play.

Xbox’s 2025 guide also reported that cloud gaming hours were up 45% year over year. That is a service-usage statistic; it says nothing about the speed or quality you will get on your own home network.
Set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported VIDAA or Hisense TV
These instructions follow Xbox’s July 30, 2026 rollout guidance. The TV must be an eligible model running VIDAA OS 9.6 or later, and the app rollout must have reached it.
- Update the TV. Use the TV’s own software-update controls to install an available update, then confirm the operating-system version is VIDAA OS 9.6 or later. Menu names for updating can vary by model; Xbox’s instructions set the version requirement but do not give one universal settings path.
- Find the Xbox app. Open the TV’s Home Page or Games section and look for the Xbox app. If it is not there, do not assume the TV is incompatible immediately: check the model and rollout status with VIDAA support, since Xbox said the update might not yet be available on every supported television.
- Open the app and sign in. Sign in with an Xbox account, or create one if needed. Use the account associated with the Game Pass plan you intend to use.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth controller. Put the controller into pairing mode and connect it through the TV’s Bluetooth controls. Exact pairing menus vary by TV and controller; verify both are supported for your model.
- Choose a cloud-enabled game. Browse the games available to your account and select a title that offers cloud play. Availability can depend on region, device, plan and catalog changes.
Set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on an LG Smart TV
Xbox’s April 23, 2025 instructions describe two ways to find the app, depending on the LG TV. They also specified Game Pass Ultimate for the LG launch; check current platform terms rather than treating that launch statement as a permanent rule.

- Check the TV generation and software. Xbox lists 2025 LG TVs and TVs with webOS 24 or later, including 2022 OLED models and selected 2023 models updated with firmware. Confirm your exact model and installed software before proceeding.
- Open the Gaming Portal. On a 2025 LG TV, find the Xbox app in the Gaming Portal, which Xbox says can be opened using the Gaming Q-Card on the home page. On eligible webOS 24-or-later TVs, the app may instead need to be downloaded from the app store.
- Install and launch the app if needed. If the Xbox app is not already available in the portal, use the app store route where supported, then open it.
- Sign in or create an account. Use your Microsoft/Xbox account. Make sure the account has a plan currently eligible for cloud gaming on LG in your region.
- Connect a supported Bluetooth controller. Pair it through the TV’s Bluetooth controls. Xbox’s LG guide names Xbox Adaptive and Elite controllers and Sony DualSense among its controller examples; check the guide and your model’s support information for current compatibility.
- Select a cloud-enabled title. Choose a game that is available to stream on your account, then follow the on-screen launch prompts.
Set up on Samsung TV or Fire TV
Xbox identifies select Samsung TVs and selected Amazon Fire TV devices as supported platforms. The setup details in the available Xbox sources are less specific than the LG and VIDAA instructions, so first confirm that your exact model is on Xbox’s current compatibility information. Support for one model in a product family does not establish support for every model in that family.
- Verify device and region support. Check the exact TV or Fire TV model and confirm Xbox Cloud Gaming is available where you live. Do this before buying hardware for cloud gaming.
- Install or open the Xbox app. On a supported Fire TV device, Xbox’s instructions say to install and launch the Xbox app. On Samsung, follow the app route available for the specific supported TV.
- Sign in with your Xbox/Microsoft account. Confirm the account has a currently eligible plan for cloud gaming on that platform.
- Pair a compatible controller and choose a game. Most games require a gamepad, but controller compatibility varies by device. Select a title that is available to stream.
Xbox’s November 25, 2025 update described selected Fire TV and LG support and noted regional device caveats. Its February 25, 2026 update said cloud gaming was out of beta and named selected Fire TV devices, LG TVs and Samsung TVs among supported platforms. Neither update supplies an exhaustive model list in the information available here.
Choose and connect a controller
Most Xbox cloud games are designed for a gamepad. Xbox lists the Xbox Wireless Controller among supported controllers. Its LG guide also names Xbox Adaptive and Elite controllers and Sony DualSense. Those examples are not a promise that every controller works on every TV: Bluetooth support and button behavior can depend on the host device and its software.

If you already own a controller, check that it is supported by your exact TV or streaming device before buying another. Put it into pairing mode, open the device’s Bluetooth controls, select the controller and wait for the connected status before launching a game. The precise button sequence for pairing varies, so use the controller maker’s instructions if the device does not appear. A controller paired to a different device may need to be disconnected or put back into pairing mode.
Xbox’s general guide says most games require a controller, not that every game does. Check the individual game’s control requirements rather than assuming touch or remote-control input will work on a TV.
Improve the connection and reduce interruptions
Xbox recommends an internet connection of at least 20 Mbps for stable cloud gaming and recommends wired Ethernet where possible. If Ethernet is not practical, 5 GHz Wi-Fi may be an option on devices that support it. The speed recommendation is a baseline, not a guarantee of smooth play: latency, Wi-Fi interference, congestion and the quality of the connection between your home and the streaming service also affect responsiveness.
Best Value

- 1000Hz Polling Rate on PC: Experience ultra-responsive gaming with a 1000Hz polling rate on PC, available through both wired and 2.4G wireless connections. This ensures instantaneous input registration, reducing lag and optimizing your performance for the most competitive gameplay.
- GameSir Nexus App: The G7 Pro is compatible with the upgraded GameSir Nexus app, which brings a significant upgrade over the original. It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
- Prefer a wired connection when available. Ethernet avoids some wireless interference and signal variation.
- If using Wi-Fi, use a capable 5 GHz connection where possible. Confirm that both the router and the TV or streaming device support it; the option is not universal.
- Measure where the TV is used. A result near the router may not represent the connection in the room where you play.
- Reduce competing network use when needed. If other devices are using a large share of the connection, test again when that activity pauses.
- Judge responsiveness, not just the speed-test number. A connection can meet the stated Mbps recommendation yet still feel delayed or unstable.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
The Xbox app is missing
Recheck the exact device model and software version rather than relying on the brand name. On VIDAA, confirm OS 9.6 or later and check whether the rollout has reached your TV; Xbox says not all eligible sets necessarily received the update at launch. For LG, check whether your set uses the Gaming Portal route or can download the app from the app store, and confirm that it meets the stated webOS/model criteria. For Samsung and Fire TV, consult Xbox’s current device information because the model lists are selective.
The TV is supported, but sign-in or game access fails
Check that you are using the account tied to the eligible Game Pass plan, that cloud gaming is available in your region, and that the plan currently covers your particular platform. Then confirm the game itself has cloud availability for your account. A game’s presence in a library does not establish that it can be streamed on your device.
The controller will not connect or is not recognized
Confirm the controller is supported by the TV or streaming device, put it into pairing mode, and use the device’s Bluetooth controls to connect it. If it was previously paired elsewhere, disconnect it or restart pairing. Some compatibility details vary by device; Xbox’s controller examples for one platform should not be treated as a universal list for all TVs.
The stream is slow, blurry or delayed
Check the connection at the TV, not only elsewhere in the home. Compare it with Xbox’s 20 Mbps recommendation, try Ethernet if available, or use a supported 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection. If the speed appears adequate but play remains delayed, a speed test cannot rule out latency or other network problems. These steps improve the conditions you can control but cannot guarantee a particular stream quality.
What to check before spending money
A console-free setup can avoid buying a console, but it is not automatically cost-free. You may need a Game Pass subscription, a compatible controller, or a supported streaming device if your current TV does not qualify. The available Xbox information does not establish current prices for plans or hardware, and those costs can vary by region and change over time.
- Verify the exact TV or Fire TV model and software before purchase; “Samsung,” “LG,” “Hisense” or “Fire TV” alone is not a compatibility guarantee.
- Confirm the rollout and service availability in your region, especially for newly supported device categories.
- Check the current Game Pass terms for that device instead of assuming one plan rule applies to all platforms.
- Check the controller you already own before purchasing another one.
- Compare the total cost of any needed subscription, controller and streaming hardware with your alternatives. Do not buy a specific device solely on the assumption that it supports the app.
Xbox’s February 25, 2026 update described cloud gaming as out of beta, but that does not remove model, regional, plan or network limitations. The official device and support details remain the decisive checks for an individual setup.
