For proactive commute notifications, the documented setup here is specific to supported Pixel phones: turn on commute notifications through Pixel settings and save your home and work locations. Waze lets you configure road-report alerts, while Apple Maps shows traffic and incident markers; its cited guidance does not describe recurring commute-delay push notifications. Availability and behavior vary by device, app, and region.
Choose the kind of alert you need

These are not interchangeable features: a traffic map or an in-drive road report is not necessarily a proactive notification about your usual commute.

Set up commute notifications on a Pixel
- On your Pixel, open Settings > Modes > Transit > App Settings.
- Choose Set up commute notifications and follow the prompts.
- Save your home and work locations, confirm the location settings requested during setup, and complete the commute profile.
You can also start setup in the My Pixel app under Tips > Everyday Tools. Pixel commute information uses the saved home and work locations in Google Maps. Google’s Pixel guidance says background location access, precise location, Timeline (Location History), and Web & App Activity can support timely personalized information; these settings can be changed later. It may take 2–3 weeks for commute information to appear after initial setup.

Configure road alerts in Waze
- Open Waze and tap the menu.
- Go to Settings > Alerts and reports > Reports.
- Select a report type, such as Traffic, Crash, Hazards, Bad weather, Blocked lane, Construction, or Closures.
- For the selected type, choose Show on map and/or Alert while driving where those controls are available.
Available alert types and controls can vary by report and location. Waze also limits the number of alerts shown on a single route and prioritizes which ones appear, so it may not alert you to every relevant incident. Treat Waze as a configurable source of road information, not a guarantee of advance warning about every commute delay.
If you use Waze with Android Auto or CarPlay, disconnect the phone before changing alert preferences. Waze says the changes apply when the app is used in the car.

Check traffic in Apple Maps
Open Maps on your iPhone and view the map’s traffic conditions. Yellow indicates slow traffic; red indicates stop-and-go traffic. Tap an incident marker to inspect the report. Apple evaluates incoming incident reports and displays markers when its confidence is high. Availability varies by country and region. The cited Apple guidance covers viewing traffic and incidents, not setting up a recurring push notification for your commute.

- Pixel commute information is missing: Check that home and work are saved correctly, Commute is enabled in At a Glance customization, and relevant background-location and notification access has not been blocked. Allow time for the profile to populate.
- Pixel route or timing looks wrong: Review the saved addresses and Timeline settings.
- Waze does not show a chosen alert: Confirm that the report category is enabled and that the selected display option is available for that category. Route alert limits and prioritization can still mean some reports are not shown.
- Apple Maps has no incident markers: A marker is not guaranteed for every report; Apple displays incident reports when confidence is high, and features vary by region.
- Any service behaves differently than expected: Check the phone’s notification permissions, location access where required, and local feature availability.
Do not rely on a specific warning lead time unless your particular device and service document one. A 2018 Google announcement described delay notifications in Google Maps on Android at that time, but it does not establish current availability for every Android phone or region.
