How to Set Up the SteelSeries Aeon Pro Wireless Controller on PC and Console

Use the Aeon Pro’s base station for Xbox, while PC supports three connection methods: the base station, a direct USB-C-to-USB-A cable, or Bluetooth. Mobile devices connect over Bluetooth. On the controller, hold View + Menu, open System Select, choose XBOX, PC, or Bluetooth, and press A. When pairing is active, the target device should list Aeon Pro. SteelSeries GG on Windows provides deeper remapping, deadzone, trigger and power controls; the OLED menu handles many everyday settings without a computer.

Connection methods at a glance

The right setup depends on the platform and whether you have the base station nearby. This table shows the supported paths before you begin.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Platform Connection choices Base station requirement SteelSeries GG access
Xbox Base-station wireless connection Required Configure through a Windows PC by using the station’s PC port
Windows PC Base station, USB-C-to-USB-A cable, or Bluetooth Optional Full Engine controls are available when the station is connected to the PC port
Mobile device Bluetooth Not required Not applicable; use the controller’s OLED menu and the mobile Bluetooth settings

The base station has separate ports. Its dedicated Xbox port is for an Xbox console; its PC port is the path for PC wireless play and SteelSeries GG. Plugging the cable into the wrong port is one of the most common causes of a controller that appears powered but will not connect.

Prepare the controller and your equipment

  • Charge the controller or install its battery according to the hardware supplied with your unit.
  • Place the base station where both the console or computer cable and the controller can reach it comfortably.
  • Have a USB-C-to-USB-A data cable available if you want a wired PC connection or a fallback when wireless pairing is unavailable.
  • On Windows, install SteelSeries GG before configuring profiles, deadzones, trigger behavior, shift-key controls or power options. Basic controls remain available from the controller’s OLED display.
  • Close other controllers’ configuration utilities temporarily if they intercept input or Bluetooth pairing.

Turn the controller on before selecting a system. The OLED display is the source of truth for the active transport mode; changing a cable without changing System Select can leave the controller looking for the previous platform.

Set up the Aeon Pro on Xbox

Xbox uses the base station. Connect the station to the console with the cable in its dedicated Xbox port, not the PC port.

  1. Connect the base station’s Xbox-labeled port to an available USB port on the Xbox.
  2. Turn on the Aeon Pro.
  3. Hold View and Menu together to open the OLED settings.
  4. Open System Select.
  5. Use the d-pad to select XBOX, then press A.
  6. Wait for pairing to appear on the OLED. On the console, complete the prompt or select Aeon Pro when it appears.
  7. Start a game or open the Xbox accessories/input screen and verify that stick, button and trigger input responds.

If the OLED never enters pairing, repeat the System Select sequence and confirm that the station cable is in the Xbox port. The PC port is intended for a computer and GG, so moving the cable is often the necessary fix rather than changing Xbox settings.

Set up wireless PC play with the base station

The base station gives Windows the wireless path and is the connection SteelSeries documents for GG configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Connect the base station to the computer through its PC port.
  2. Turn on the controller.
  3. Hold View + Menu, choose System Select, select PC with the d-pad and press A.
  4. Wait for the OLED to show pairing. Windows should detect the wireless controller as Aeon Pro.
  5. Install or open SteelSeries GG. In GG, open Engine and select the Aeon Pro banner.
  6. Test the controller in Windows’ game-controller panel or in the game you intend to play.

Keep the station connected to the PC port when you want GG to see the controller, apply profiles or adjust power behavior. If Windows detects the station but the controller does not respond, reselect PC from System Select rather than repeatedly unplugging the station.

Connect the Aeon Pro directly to a PC by USB

A direct cable is useful when the station is packed away, wireless interference is suspected or you want the simplest diagnostic test.

  1. Connect the controller to the computer with a USB-C-to-USB-A data cable.
  2. Turn on the controller if it does not wake automatically.
  3. Open View + Menu and enter System Select.
  4. Select PC and press A.
  5. Wait for Windows to finish detecting the controller, then test it in your game.

Use a cable that carries data, not a charge-only lead. If the battery icon changes but no controller appears in Windows, try another USB port and another known-good data cable. GG can be opened after the wired device is recognized.

Pair the Aeon Pro to a PC over Bluetooth

Bluetooth removes the need for the base station and cable, but the computer must have working Bluetooth hardware and drivers.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

  1. Open the OLED menu by holding View + Menu.
  2. Choose System Select, select Bluetooth, and press A.
  3. Wait until the OLED reports pairing.
  4. In Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices, turn Bluetooth on and choose Add device > Bluetooth.
  5. Select Aeon Pro from the device list and wait for Windows to report that it is connected.
  6. Launch a game and confirm that the controller is selected as the input device.

If a previous, incomplete Aeon Pro entry is listed, remove that entry from Bluetooth settings before trying again. Put the controller back into pairing mode each time; merely turning Bluetooth on in Windows does not change the controller’s System Select mode.

Connect to a phone or tablet

Mobile devices use Bluetooth. The procedure is the same regardless of whether the device runs Android or iOS, although menu names can differ slightly.

  1. On the controller, hold View + Menu.
  2. Open System Select, choose Bluetooth, and press A.
  3. Wait for pairing on the OLED.
  4. Open the phone or tablet’s Bluetooth settings and scan for nearby devices.
  5. Tap Aeon Pro and accept the pairing request.
  6. Open the game or app and choose the controller input if the app provides its own controller selector.

Keep the controller close to the mobile device during the first pairing. If it was last connected to a computer, the phone may not see it until you deliberately switch System Select to Bluetooth and initiate pairing again.

Use the OLED menu without a computer

The OLED menu provides more than connection selection. SteelSeries says many settings can be changed directly on the controller, including:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Button mapping
  • Haptics
  • Stick circularity
  • Calibration
  • OLED brightness
  • Wake behavior
  • Idle behavior
  • Factory reset
  • System Select

Menu names and values are shown on the controller’s display, so you can make these changes on a console or mobile setup without installing software. Deeper deadzone and shift-key controls require GG on a computer.

Remap a button from the controller

  1. Hold View + Menu to open the OLED menu.
  2. Choose Mapping.
  3. Select the button you want to change.
  4. Press Menu to confirm the button selection.
  5. Choose the new binding.
  6. Press Menu again to save it.

The OLED should display Mapping Completed. Saved. If that message does not appear, repeat the final confirmation; leaving the menu before saving discards the change.

Configure profiles and advanced controls in SteelSeries GG

GG is a Windows application, and the base station must be connected through its PC port for the documented wireless configuration path.

  1. Connect the base station to the PC port and set the controller to PC in System Select.
  2. Open SteelSeries GG and select Engine.
  3. Click the Aeon Pro device banner.
  4. Review the available profile, remapping, deadzone, trigger and shift-key controls.
  5. Open OLED & Settings when you need display or power behavior changes.
  6. Save or apply the profile before switching to another game.

The documented power controls are available in GG’s Power Options menu. You can also change the controller’s IDLE PWR OFF setting from the OLED. Power-saving is enabled by default, so increase the idle timeout or disable automatic shutoff only when your use case requires it.

Battery life and polling figures

SteelSeries Support lists the following figures for the Aeon Pro in 2026. They are usage-specific estimates, not a guarantee for every game, volume level or battery condition.

Connection or condition Published battery figure Qualification

Connected to Xbox 12.5 hours SteelSeries Support figure, 2026
PC without a headset 11.5 hours SteelSeries Support figure, 2026
Bluetooth 14 hours SteelSeries Support figure, 2026

Polling is listed at 250 Hz on Xbox or PC when a headset is connected. On PC, SteelSeries lists 1000 Hz over a wired or wireless connection. The effective figure therefore depends on both the platform and whether the controller is driving a headset.

Troubleshoot a controller that will not connect

The OLED shows the wrong system

Hold View + Menu, open System Select and explicitly choose the destination: XBOX for Xbox, PC for a computer, or Bluetooth for a computer or mobile device using Bluetooth. A cable change alone does not select a new system.

Xbox cannot find the controller

  • Confirm the station cable is in the dedicated Xbox port.
  • Turn the controller on and select XBOX from System Select.
  • Wait for the OLED’s pairing message, then look for Aeon Pro on the console.
  • Move the station closer to the controller and try another Xbox USB port if the station has no power.

PC wireless setup fails

  • Move the station cable to its PC port.
  • Select PC on the controller and wait for pairing.
  • Check Windows for the device name Aeon Pro.
  • Try the direct USB-C cable to separate a wireless pairing issue from a controller or game issue.
  • If Bluetooth is available, select Bluetooth on the OLED and pair from Settings > Bluetooth & devices.

Bluetooth pairing does not appear

Make sure the OLED actually says pairing. Remove an old Aeon Pro entry from the computer or phone, turn Bluetooth off and back on, then start a new pairing session from System Select. Keep only the intended host’s Bluetooth screen open during the first attempt to avoid selecting a stale entry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

GG does not show the controller

GG’s documented setup uses the base station connected to the computer’s PC port. Reconnect it there, select PC on the OLED and reopen Engine. A Bluetooth-only connection can be useful for gameplay, but it is not the documented station-based route for the full GG configuration workflow.

The controller turns off while you are away

Automatic power saving is enabled by default. Check the OLED’s IDLE PWR OFF setting or open GG’s Power Options and adjust the idle behavior. This changes when the controller shuts down; it does not repair a failed pairing session.

Buttons or sticks behave unexpectedly after customization

Review the active mapping and profile in GG, or open Mapping on the OLED and restore the intended binding. For a clean start, use the OLED’s factory-reset option, then select the correct system again and pair from scratch. A reset removes custom settings, so use it only after checking the active profile.

Recommended setup sequence for a mixed-device household

  1. Use the station’s Xbox port when playing on Xbox.
  2. Move the station cable to the PC port before opening GG or using PC wireless mode.
  3. When traveling without the station, use a data-capable USB-C cable on PC.
  4. For a phone, tablet or Bluetooth-equipped PC, select Bluetooth on the OLED and pair to the device named Aeon Pro.
  5. Before changing platforms, open System Select and choose the new target explicitly.

This sequence avoids leaving the controller in a previous platform mode and keeps the station’s two ports assigned to their intended roles.
