To control a Samsung cassette air conditioner in SmartThings, first confirm the exact indoor-unit model and the country where it was sold. Some units may need a separate Wi-Fi adapter, and compatibility cannot be determined from “Samsung cassette AC” alone. Once Samsung confirms the control method for your model, use the SmartThings app’s Add device flow to connect it.
Check compatibility before you buy or pair anything
Find the complete model number on the indoor unit’s label. Use that number and your country or market to check the regional product manual or ask Samsung support or your installer whether the AC has Wi-Fi built in or requires a particular adapter. Samsung notes that compatibility and available functions depend on the product and market (Samsung SmartThings connection guidance).

For the 360 Cassette range covered by its brochure, Samsung specifies Wi-Fi kit MIM-H03N for remote control through SmartThings: Samsung 360 Cassette brochure. That requirement is specific to the range described there; it does not establish that MIM-H03N fits every Samsung cassette AC. Samsung publishes separate documentation for other adapters, including MIM-H04N, which is not proof that it is suitable for your unit. Get the exact part number from model-specific documentation or Samsung before purchasing.

Prepare your phone, account, and Wi-Fi
- Install the SmartThings app on a supported phone and sign in with a Samsung account.
- Connect the phone to your home Wi-Fi before starting. Samsung’s cited setup guide specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for connecting the AC and recommends that the phone and appliance use the same router during setup.
- Keep the phone near the AC and ensure the Wi-Fi signal is strong. The regional guide also warns that some characters in a network name (SSID) may not be supported. If the app or your model’s manual gives different current requirements, follow those instructions; Samsung says steps and functions can vary by software version, product, network, and country.
Add the air conditioner in SmartThings
Samsung’s support guide describes the following flow. Labels and prompts may differ by app version, region, or AC model, so follow the on-screen instructions if they do.

- Open SmartThings and choose Add device.
- Select Air conditioner, then Room air conditioner. Choose Start and select the location and room for the AC.
- When prompted, hold the Timer button on the remote until the app detects the unit. In Samsung’s iOS instructions, continue until AP appears on the AC. Use the remote and indicator behavior specified for your model if it differs.
- Continue with the phone-specific prompts. In the Android flow, Samsung instructs users to press the AC power button and enter Wi-Fi details. In the iOS flow, the phone temporarily joins a network beginning with room a/c; return to SmartThings and submit the home Wi-Fi information.
- Let SmartThings register the AC to your Samsung account, then name the device. Confirm it appears in the room you selected.
See Samsung’s SmartThings air-conditioner connection guide for its illustrated instructions. The guide notes that app steps may change with software updates and that some functions may not be available on every model.
If SmartThings does not find the AC
- Check the model and adapter first. Reconfirm the full indoor-unit model, market, and required Wi-Fi kit in the regional manual or with Samsung. Do not try a different kit just because it is also described as a cassette adapter.
- Check the setup network. Make sure the phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network specified by Samsung’s guide, is using the same router as the appliance during setup, and has a usable signal.
- Follow the prompts for your phone and version. The Timer-button and AP instructions are not guaranteed to apply identically to every cassette model. Use the current app prompts and model manual if the sequence differs.
- Ask Samsung or your installer to verify the control path. If the app still cannot detect the AC, confirm whether the unit supports SmartThings and whether an adapter or installation step is required. The cited material does not establish that a generic controller or third-party bridge will work with an incompatible cassette unit.
What to expect after setup
Once registration completes, the AC should appear in its selected SmartThings room. Which controls are available depends on the model and market; successful app registration does not establish that every SmartThings feature is supported by that unit.
