To use Siri Expressive Voices, enable Siri AI (Beta), then open Siri’s Voice settings and choose a voice. On iPhone, go to Settings > Siri > Voice; on Mac, go to System Settings > Siri > Voice. The feature requires compatible hardware, and Apple’s current controls for Pace and Expressivity are available for American and British voices.
Before you begin: confirm eligibility
Siri Expressive Voices is part of Siri AI (Beta), not a voice option available on every device running iOS 27 or macOS 27. General Siri AI eligibility is broader than the requirements for Expressive Voices, so a device that can use Siri AI may not meet the requirements for these voice controls.

Mac requirements
For Expressive Voices on Mac, Apple specifies a Mac with an M3 chip or later and at least 12 GB of unified memory. Apple’s voice-support page also lists qualifying M3-or-later Macs with at least 12 GB of unified memory. See Apple’s Customize Siri on Mac guide for setup instructions.

Language and region
Apple says the device language and Siri language must match a supported language; Siri AI is currently available in English. Availability also varies by region and platform. Apple says Siri AI is unavailable on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS in the EU, and when the Apple Account region is mainland China. Apple announced in September 2026 that French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support was planned for the following month; that announcement alone does not confirm whether rollout occurred. Check Apple’s current availability information and your device settings.
Set up Expressive Voices on iPhone
- Update a supported iPhone to iOS 27 or later.
- Open Settings and tap Siri.
- If Siri AI is not enabled, tap Try Siri AI (Beta) and follow the setup prompts. Enrollment may include a waitlist; Apple says Siri AI will download automatically when the wait is over.
- In Siri settings, tap Voice. Choose a voice, then adjust Pace and Expressivity if those controls are available.
Set up Expressive Voices on Mac
- Update a supported Mac to macOS 27 Golden Gate or later.
- Open System Settings and select Siri in the sidebar.
- If prompted, choose Try Siri AI (Beta) and complete setup. This can include choosing a voice, voice enrollment, privacy settings, and joining a waitlist where required.
- In Siri settings, click Voice. Choose a voice and adjust Pace and Expressivity when the controls are available.
What the voice controls change
Voice selects which Siri voice you hear. Pace changes how quickly Siri speaks, while Expressivity adjusts the voice’s expressive delivery. Apple currently says Pace and Expressivity adjustments are available for American and British voices; choosing another voice does not guarantee those controls will appear.

If Siri AI or the voice controls are missing
- No Try Siri AI option: Confirm that the device and software meet Apple’s current eligibility rules, and check whether Siri AI is available for your language, platform, and region.
- Setup is pending: If Apple places enrollment on a waitlist, follow the on-screen status; the download is described as automatic when the wait ends.
- Siri AI works but Expressive Voices does not appear: Recheck the narrower hardware requirements, especially the Mac chip and memory requirements, and verify that the selected voice supports Pace and Expressivity.
- Still unavailable: Apple’s published requirements do not establish a universal result for every hardware, language, and region combination. Check Siri settings on the device and Apple’s current support pages rather than assuming every eligible-looking device has access.
