The reliable setup is: install chiaki-ng (the package commonly labeled Chiaki4Deck) in Steam Deck Desktop Mode, enable Remote Play and rest-mode network wake on the PS5, register the console by PSN or its Link Device PIN, test waking and streaming, then add the client to Game Mode. Keeping the PS5 and Deck reachable on the same home network makes first discovery and troubleshooting much easier.
What you need before starting
Chiaki4Deck is a free, open-source client fork optimized for Steam Deck. The application may be named Chiaki4Deck in the software store while its package and executable are identified as chiaki-ng. Initial installation and registration are easiest in Desktop Mode; after the connection works, you can launch it from Game Mode.

- A Steam Deck with access to Desktop Mode and the Discover software store.
- A PlayStation 5 running current system software.
- A PlayStation Network account. Use the account that owns or normally uses the PS5 for Remote Play.
- A network path the Deck can reach. For a first pairing, put both devices on the same local network.
- A keyboard is recommended for entering account IDs, redirect URLs, and PINs. The Deck’s virtual keyboard and trackpads can substitute if you do not have an external keyboard.
- For the most dependable home setup, connect the PS5 by Ethernet and connect the Deck over 5-GHz Wi-Fi when possible. The project also supports other network arrangements, but quality depends on the router and the path between the two devices.
No published latency figure, minimum bandwidth number, or success-rate statistic is established by the project documentation. Choose stream settings by observing your own network rather than treating an advertised threshold as a guarantee.

If you prefer a terminal launch, the package can be started with:
flatpak run io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck
Do not return to Game Mode yet. The PS5 must be prepared and registered, and a basic stream should be tested from Desktop Mode first.
Enable Remote Play and network wake on the PS5
Remote Play and wake-from-rest are separate settings. Remote Play allows the client to start a session; the rest-mode options allow the console to respond when it is sleeping.

- On the PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play.
- Turn on Enable Remote Play.
- For wake-from-rest use, open Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode.
- Enable Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Enable Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
Leave the PS5 powered on or in rest mode while discovering and registering it. For the initial pairing, connect the Deck and PS5 to the same home network. With both devices reachable and the console awake or in rest mode, chiaki-ng should normally discover the PS5 automatically.

Register the PS5 in chiaki-ng
Registration associates the local client with your console and PlayStation Network account. There are two normal paths: automatic PSN registration and registration with the PS5’s Link Device PIN. If discovery does not work, the same registration data can be entered manually with the console’s IPv4 address.
Open the client and complete PSN sign-in
- Launch Chiaki4Deck from the desktop application menu, or run the Flatpak command shown above.
- If the client offers PSN registration, start the supplied browser sign-in flow.
- After signing in, copy the redirect URL shown by the browser and paste it back into chiaki-ng when prompted.
- Create the registration token. Sony OAuth links can expire within a few minutes, so generate a new link and repeat the flow if the first URL is rejected or has timed out.
Use automatic registration when the discovered PS5 offers it
- Wait for the PS5 to appear in the client list.
- Select the console labeled Automatic Registration Available.
- Confirm the action. chiaki-ng registers the console without requiring you to type the Link Device PIN manually.
Automatic registration is the quickest route when the PS5 is discovered on the same network and the PSN token has been created successfully.
Register with the Link Device PIN
- Select the discovered PS5 in chiaki-ng.
- Choose the console type when prompted.
- Confirm the displayed PlayStation Network Account-ID, or enter the correct Account-ID if the field is blank.
- On the PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play → Link Device. The console displays a temporary code.
- Enter that code in chiaki-ng’s Remote Play PIN field and click Register.
The PIN is generated by the console for this pairing step. If it expires before you submit it, return to Link Device on the PS5 and use a newly displayed code.
Register manually when the PS5 is not discovered
Manual registration bypasses local discovery but still requires the Deck to have a usable network route to the console.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- In chiaki-ng, open Settings with the gear icon.
- Choose Consoles → Register New.
- On the PS5, open Settings → System → System Software → Console Information and note the console’s IPv4 address.
- Enter that IPv4 address in the registration form.
- Enter the PlayStation Network Account-ID and the Link Device code obtained from Settings → System → Remote Play → Link Device.
- Submit the registration and wait for the console to appear as registered.
Use the address shown by the PS5 rather than guessing an address. A manual entry is particularly useful when the router blocks discovery traffic, the devices are on different Wi-Fi segments, or the console is hidden from the automatic scan.
Test waking and streaming before switching to Game Mode
A short Desktop Mode test separates pairing problems from later launcher or controller problems.
- Put the PS5 into rest mode.
- Return to chiaki-ng and check that the registered console is shown as ready or standby.
- Select the registered console and start a Remote Play session.
- Confirm that the PS5 wakes, the stream appears, and basic controls respond.
- End the session and repeat once if you want to verify that wake-from-rest works consistently.
If the session fails, close and relaunch chiaki-ng, check that the console is labeled registered, verify that both devices are on the same network, and retry with manual IPv4 registration. Testing while the PS5 is awake can also distinguish a registration problem from a rest-mode wake problem.
Add chiaki-ng to Steam Game Mode
Once a Desktop Mode stream works, add chiaki-ng to Steam as a non-Steam game if it is not already listed. Use Steam’s Add a Non-Steam Game flow, select the installed chiaki-ng application, and save it to the library. The exact library presentation can vary with SteamOS updates, but the goal is to create a Game Mode launch entry for the same installed client you tested on the desktop.

Switch back to Game Mode and launch the new entry. Game Mode is useful because Steam Input can provide a controller layout for the Deck’s sticks, buttons, touchpad emulation, gyro, and rear buttons. Create or select a layout that matches the controls expected by the PS5 game. Test the touchpad gesture and any motion controls in a game that uses them instead of assuming the default layout maps every input correctly.
Optional haptics and adaptive-trigger support are documented as experimental. They may require a DualSense connected by USB or Bluetooth, and they should not be treated as prerequisites for ordinary Remote Play on the Deck.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose a network arrangement and tune the stream
For a home session, the project recommends Ethernet for the PlayStation and Wi-Fi for the Steam Deck. A wired console avoids one wireless hop, while the Deck remains portable. Use 5-GHz Wi-Fi when the Deck is close enough to the access point for a stable signal.

| Use case | How the PS5 is found | Network path | Wake behavior | Setup considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Same-home-network Remote Play | Usually automatic discovery; manual IPv4 registration is the fallback | Through the local router between the Deck and PS5 | Works from rest mode when the two PS5 network-wake options are enabled | Lowest setup complexity; start here for first pairing |
| Remote or PSN-based connection | Use the PSN registration path and any required manual console details | Depends on the Internet path as well as the home router | Depends on the console’s rest-mode settings and whether the remote network path can reach it | More variables; manual port or network configuration may be needed |
The local arrangement removes the Internet leg, so it generally has fewer sources of variation than a remote path, but the documentation does not publish a guaranteed latency or bandwidth figure. For either arrangement, adjust resolution, bitrate, codec, and other chiaki-ng stream settings to match what your router and wireless conditions can sustain. Lowering a demanding setting is often more useful than changing several settings at once; make one change, reconnect, and observe whether the stream improves.
Best Value

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Optional HDR configuration
HDR is an optional, model-dependent feature rather than a requirement for Remote Play. The documented combination requires an HDR-capable client such as the Steam Deck OLED, HDR enabled on the PS5, the H265 HDR (PS5 only) codec selected in chiaki-ng, and launching chiaki-ng through Game Mode with gamescope. If any of those conditions is missing, use a non-HDR codec and ordinary stream mode first.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The PS5 does not appear in the list
- Confirm the PS5 is powered on or in rest mode and that Remote Play is enabled.
- Confirm the Deck and PS5 are on the same local network for initial discovery. Guest Wi-Fi, separated access points, and router isolation can prevent discovery even when both devices have Internet access.
- Close and reopen chiaki-ng after changing the network or waking the console.
- Use Settings → Consoles → Register New and enter the PS5 IPv4 address if automatic discovery remains unavailable.
Automatic registration is unavailable or fails
- Complete the PSN browser flow and paste the redirect URL back into chiaki-ng.
- If the redirect URL has aged for several minutes, create a fresh OAuth link and try again.
- Select the discovered console only after it shows Automatic Registration Available.
- Switch to Link Device PIN registration if automatic registration continues to fail.
The PIN registration is rejected
- Generate a new code from Settings → System → Remote Play → Link Device; the code is temporary.
- Check that the selected console type is PS5.
- Check the PlayStation Network Account-ID character by character before submitting.
- Enter the code in the Remote Play PIN field, then choose Register.
The PS5 registers but will not wake from rest mode
- On the PS5, verify both Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network under Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode.
- Test once while the console is fully awake. If an awake session works but a sleeping session does not, the problem is wake configuration or the network path rather than the basic registration.
- For a local setup, put both devices on the same network and retry. For a remote setup, remember that the Internet route and router configuration add additional failure points.
The stream stutters or quality is inconsistent
- Use Ethernet for the PS5 and 5-GHz Wi-Fi for the Deck where practical.
- Move the Deck closer to the access point or remove competing traffic during the test.
- In chiaki-ng, reduce resolution or bitrate, or choose a codec better suited to the current network.
- Change one stream option at a time so you can identify which setting affects stability.
Controls, touchpad, or motion input are wrong
- Open the Steam Input layout for the Game Mode shortcut and map the PS5 touchpad action explicitly.
- Assign gyro and rear buttons only if the game benefits from them; an unassigned control is preferable to an accidental input.
- Do not rely on experimental haptics or adaptive triggers for a first test. If you need those features, follow the documented USB or Bluetooth DualSense requirement and verify ordinary controls first.
Optional wired accessories
A USB-C Gigabit Ethernet adapter or an Ethernet-equipped Steam Deck dock can add a wired network connection for a desk setup or a location where Wi-Fi is unreliable. Either is optional: neither is required to register the PS5, discover it on a suitable local network, or use Remote Play over Wi-Fi. The practical choice depends on where the Deck is used and whether running a cable is convenient.
What a successful setup looks like
At the end of setup, the PS5 has Remote Play and network wake enabled, chiaki-ng shows the console as registered, a rest-mode test wakes the console and starts a stream, and the same application launches from Game Mode with a usable Steam Input layout. If those conditions are met, later problems can be isolated to the network, stream settings, or controller mapping instead of repeating the registration process.
