Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYou can add Google to a Sony Bravia in one of two ways: activate the television’s built-in Android TV or Google TV software and sign in with a Google Account, or connect an external HDMI Google TV device when the set does not run either platform. A Google Account and an internet connection are needed for the full Google TV experience, including the app library, personalized recommendations and voice features.
On a compatible Bravia, the key command is Set up Google TV. Select it during first-run setup, or find it later from the Home or Settings menu if the television was originally configured as a basic TV. The exact menu names and available features vary by model, operating-system version, country and language.

What “adding Google” means on a Bravia
“Adding Google” can refer to several different functions:
Recommended Free Tools
- Google TV interface: a home screen for live inputs, streaming services, recommendations and Google apps.
- Google Account: the sign-in that enables personalized recommendations, app downloads and synchronization.
- Google Assistant and voice search: spoken searches and compatible TV controls through the remote microphone.
- Chromecast built-in: casting movies, shows, photos and other supported content from Android or iOS to the television.
- Google Home control: linking a compatible Bravia to a Google Assistant speaker or the Google Home app.
A Bravia that is only a conventional smart TV cannot usually gain the complete Google TV interface through a software switch. In that case, an HDMI Google TV device supplies the Google experience while the television remains the display.

Check whether your Bravia supports Google TV
Find the operating system in the menus
Look through the television’s Settings, About or System Information pages for wording such as Android TV or Google TV. The location differs across Bravia generations, so use the model’s support information if those labels are not obvious. Do not assume that every Bravia with a similar-looking home screen has the same operating system.
Use the model support page when the menu is unclear
Record the full model number from the rear label or the television’s About screen. Sony publishes model-specific operating-system and feature information; that is the safest way to confirm whether Google TV, Chromecast built-in, Google Home integration and voice control are available on your edition and in your country.
Recognize a basic-TV installation
A compatible Android TV or Google TV Bravia may have been configured initially as a basic TV, without a Google Account. In that state, Google features are not necessarily missing; the setup path was simply skipped. Look for Set up Google TV from Home or Settings before buying additional hardware.

Prepare the television and account
- Internet: connect the Bravia to Wi‑Fi or Ethernet. Google lists either connection as a requirement for Google TV setup.
- Google Account: have the email address, password and any two-step verification method available.
- Remote: keep the original remote nearby, especially one with a Google Assistant or MIC button.
- Phone (optional): a phone on the same Wi‑Fi network is useful for pairing the Google TV remote app and for casting.
- Updates: if the television offers a software update during setup, install it before troubleshooting missing features. Menus can change after an update.
Set up Google TV natively on a compatible Bravia
Follow these steps when the television runs Android TV or Google TV.
- Start or reopen setup. On a new television, power it on and choose Set up Google TV during the initial wizard. If you already completed basic-TV setup, open Home or Settings and select Set up Google TV.
- Choose a network. Select your Wi‑Fi network and enter its password, or connect an Ethernet cable. Wait for the TV to confirm internet access before continuing.
- Accept the Google TV setup prompts. Read the displayed terms and privacy choices, then continue. Wording differs by region.
- Sign in to your Google Account. Use the on-screen keyboard, a phone-assisted sign-in option if offered, or the remote. Full Google TV functionality requires this account sign-in according to Sony’s support guidance.
- Select services and preferences. The wizard may ask which streaming services you use, language preferences and viewing interests. These choices influence recommendations and can be changed later.
- Configure the remote microphone. Press the Google Assistant or MIC button when prompted. On first use, the TV may ask you to confirm that its built-in microphone can be used.
- Finish the home-screen setup. Allow the television to load the Google TV home screen. Leave it connected to the network while apps and system components finish initializing.
- Verify the account. Open the profile icon or account area on the home screen and confirm that the intended Google Account is shown. This prevents app purchases and recommendations from being attached to the wrong account.
- Test the basic functions. Search for an app, press the MIC button for a simple query and open a streaming service. Testing now separates an account or network problem from a model-compatibility problem.
Install Google apps and streaming services
From the Google TV home screen, open the Apps tab and search with the on-screen keyboard. On many Bravia models, the Google Play Store does not appear as a separate icon on the Home menu; app discovery and installation are handled through the Apps area instead.
Install with the remote
- Press Home and select Apps.
- Choose the search field and enter the app name, or press the Assistant/MIC button and say it.
- Select the correct result, then choose Install or Get.
- Wait for installation to complete, then select Open or add the app to your preferred row.
When an app cannot be found
Check that the TV is online and signed in. App catalogs are controlled by the developer and may differ by country, account region and device certification. If the app is unavailable for the Bravia’s operating system, an HDMI streaming device may provide a compatible version; changing the TV’s language alone does not guarantee access to another country’s catalog.

Use Chromecast built-in to cast from a phone
Supported Android TV and Google TV Bravia televisions include Chromecast built-in, which lets you send movies, shows, photos and other compatible content from Android or iOS devices to the TV.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Connect the phone and Bravia to the same Wi‑Fi network. A phone on cellular data or a different wireless network generally cannot discover the TV.
- Open a Cast-enabled app on the phone.
- Tap the Cast icon and select the Bravia from the device list.
- Choose the video, photo or audio content. Playback controls remain available in the phone app while casting.
- To stop, tap the Cast icon again and choose Disconnect or Stop casting.
If the Bravia does not appear, confirm that it is a supported Android TV or Google TV model, both devices have working network access and Chromecast built-in has not been disabled in the television’s settings. Guest networks, VPNs, wireless isolation and an overloaded router can also prevent discovery; test both devices on the same ordinary home network before changing advanced settings.
Connect the Bravia to Google Home
Android TV and Google TV models support Google Home in countries where Google Home is sold, but individual model and regional restrictions apply. Sony’s supported workflow uses the TV Control with Smart Speakers app.

- Complete Google TV setup and sign in on the Bravia first.
- Install or open the Google Home app on the phone used for your household.
- In the TV’s app list, open TV Control with Smart Speakers if it is present.
- Follow the on-screen sign-in and linking instructions for the Google Assistant speaker or Google Home account.
- Assign the television to the correct home and room in the Google Home app.
- Test a simple command, such as turning the TV on or changing the volume, then review the permissions shown in the app.
Google Home availability is not a promise that every command works on every Bravia. Power control, input switching and app playback depend on the model, software version, linked services and country. If the TV is absent from Google Home, verify account sign-in, network access and regional support before repeating the pairing process.
Use your phone as a Google TV remote
On Bravia models that support the Google TV remote workflow, the phone and television must use the same Wi‑Fi network.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Sign in to the same Google Account on the TV and in the Google TV app on the phone.
- Open the remote-control feature in the Google TV app.
- Select the Bravia from the list of nearby devices.
- Enter the pairing code displayed on the television.
- Use the phone’s directional pad, Back, Home and keyboard controls to navigate and enter text.
If no code appears, make sure the television is awake, the app has local-network permission and both devices are on the same network rather than one being on a guest or isolated network.

What to do when the Bravia is not Android TV or Google TV
A non-Android-TV/non-Google-TV Bravia cannot be converted into native Google TV simply by signing in. Connect an external HDMI Google TV device, such as Google TV Streamer, to supply the interface, apps, casting and Google Assistant functions.
- Plug the streamer into an available HDMI input on the Bravia.
- Connect the streamer to power using its supplied power adapter; an older TV USB port may not provide enough power.
- Switch the Bravia to the HDMI input used by the streamer.
- Join the streamer to Wi‑Fi or Ethernet during its setup.
- Sign in with a Google Account and complete the Google TV wizard.
- Use the streamer’s remote for Google TV navigation and voice search. The original Bravia remote may still control volume or power if HDMI-CEC is supported and enabled, but this is model-dependent.
The external-device route leaves the Bravia’s original smart-TV software in place. You gain Google TV through the HDMI input without changing the television’s built-in operating system, but you must use an HDMI port, another power connection and the streamer’s update cycle.
Native Google TV versus an external HDMI device
| Consideration | Built-in Android TV or Google TV | External Google TV device |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Google features run on the Bravia’s integrated processor and storage. | Requires a separate HDMI device and power supply. |
| Eligibility | Only Bravia models sold with Android TV or Google TV, including compatible sets initially configured as basic TVs. | Works with a non-Android-TV/non-Google-TV Bravia that has a suitable HDMI input. |
| Remote and microphone | Uses the Bravia remote when it has Assistant/MIC support; microphone availability varies. | Uses the streamer’s remote and microphone; TV integration depends on HDMI-CEC. |
| Apps and casting | Uses the TV’s Google TV app catalog and Chromecast built-in when supported. | Uses the streamer’s app catalog and Chromecast capability, independent of the Bravia’s original software. |
| Google Home | Supported on qualifying Android TV and Google TV models where Google Home is sold. | Controlled through the streamer’s Google TV and smart-home compatibility; exact commands depend on the device. |
| HDMI capacity | Does not consume an additional HDMI input. | Uses one HDMI input; this matters if a console, disc player and sound system already occupy the ports. |
| Updates | Limited to the firmware and support period Sony provides for that Bravia model. | Google TV software updates come from the external-device manufacturer, while the Bravia still receives its own firmware separately. |
| Regional features | Menus, languages, Assistant and app availability depend on model, software, country and language. | The same regional limits apply to the streamer, plus any limits imposed by the Bravia’s HDMI and audio capabilities. |
Troubleshoot the most common setup failures
“Set up Google TV” is missing
- Confirm the model and operating system. The option is not available on every Bravia.
- Check both Home and Settings; its location differs between software versions.
- Install any available system update, restart the TV and look again.
- If the set is not Android TV or Google TV, use an external HDMI Google TV device instead of expecting a software conversion.
The TV cannot connect to Wi‑Fi
- Re-enter the password carefully and test another device on the same network.
- Move the TV closer to the router or use Ethernet where possible.
- Restart the router and television, then retry setup.
- Complete Google TV setup only after the TV reports a working internet connection; account sign-in and voice services depend on it.
Voice search or Assistant does not respond
- Verify that Google TV setup and Google Account sign-in are complete.
- Press the MIC or Assistant button deliberately and confirm the remote is paired.
- Check the built-in microphone permission when the TV asks for it, and review microphone settings afterward.
- Confirm that your selected language and country support Assistant. Sony notes that availability varies by language and country.
- Test internet access with an app; voice search cannot work reliably while the TV is offline.
The phone cannot find the Bravia for casting
- Put the phone and TV on the same non-guest Wi‑Fi network.
- Confirm the Bravia is an Android TV or Google TV model with Chromecast built-in.
- Check that Chromecast built-in has not been disabled in the TV’s apps or system settings.
- Restart both devices and the router, then try casting from a current Cast-enabled app.
Google Home cannot link to the TV
- Finish Google TV setup and sign in on the Bravia before attempting the link.
- Confirm that the TV and phone use the account and home you intend to control.
- Open TV Control with Smart Speakers and follow its linking prompts rather than adding an unsupported device manually.
- Check country and model eligibility; Google Home support is not identical across all Bravia editions.
An app or feature is unavailable
App catalogs and voice capabilities are regional and device-specific. Confirm the model’s certification, account country and language. If the built-in platform lacks the required app, an HDMI Google TV device can provide a separate app environment, but it cannot remove regional licensing restrictions.
Account, privacy and household considerations
Use the Google Account belonging to the person or household that will manage apps and recommendations. A shared family account can mix viewing histories, while a personal account may expose its purchases and profile to anyone using the TV. Review the account and voice settings shown during setup, and remove the account before giving the Bravia away.
Voice requests require an internet connection and may be processed according to Google’s Assistant settings. If you do not want hands-free detection, use the remote’s MIC button only when needed and disable microphone access where the model provides that control. Turning off microphone access also removes voice-search functionality.
