To set up different alert box variations, create alternate alerts in your alert provider, assign each one a supported event condition, customize and save it, then show the provider’s alert widget in OBS using a Browser Source. In Streamlabs, variations are configured in the Alert Box dashboard. The available conditions depend on the connected platform and event type.
“Variation” can also mean a different overall widget theme. These are separate controls: a variation chooses an alert for a particular event condition, while a theme changes a broader set of widget settings.

Set up a conditional alert variation in Streamlabs

Open the Streamlabs dashboard and select Alert Box.

Choose the event type you want to customize, such as tips, follows, or memberships. Add a variation for that event and give it a name that describes when it should appear and what makes it different.

Choose a condition from the options shown for your connected platform and event type. For example, Streamlabs’ guide uses a tip of at least $10 as a condition for a distinct donation alert. That threshold is an example, not a universal default.

Customize the available alert settings, such as its image or animation, sound, layout, and text. Preview the changes and save the variation.

Streamlabs lists examples of conditions that can vary by event and platform: minimum or exact Bits amounts and raid party size on Twitch; membership duration, level, gift amount, and Super Chat amount on YouTube; and minimum or exact donation amounts, largest tip of the stream, and recurring tips. Do not assume an option shown for one event or platform will be available for another.

For readable rules, make the event, condition, and special treatment clear in the variation name—for example, “Large tip — longer animation.” Keep thresholds distinct where possible so it is obvious which alert you intend to use. This is a practical organization tip, not a Streamlabs requirement.

In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Browser Source. Paste the provider’s URL into the source’s URL field.

Set the Browser Source width and height to suit the alert design and the scene. Confirm the source is positioned and layered where you want it.

Preview the alert in the provider and check the scene in OBS. If the alert is missing or clipped, check that the correct URL is in the Browser Source and adjust its dimensions or placement.
OBS Project’s documentation explains how to add provider alerts as Browser Sources; OBS Studio does not provide the alert events or alert designs itself. You configure those with an alert provider.
Choose variations or switch widget themes
Use variations when the same event should get a different alert according to a condition, such as a larger donation receiving a longer animation. Use a theme when you want to switch a broader profile of alert and widget settings for a stream or scene collection. Streamlabs also documents combining widgets from different themes by using their widget links in streaming software. A theme change is not the same as a condition-based variation.
