To earn audience support during a livestream, choose a payment route viewers can use, connect it to your account, share its link, and add its alert widget to your stream layout. A third-party tip page is separate from platform-native options such as YouTube Super Chat or channel memberships; each has different eligibility, fees, and rules.
Choose the kind of support you want to offer
One-time tips through a third-party page
A tip page gives viewers a direct payment route outside the platform’s own fan-funding tools. You connect a supported payment processor, share the page link, and configure an alert widget in your streaming software. Streamlabs documents this flow for Twitch, YouTube, and Kick; availability of payment methods can vary by creator and viewer location. See Streamlabs’ setup guide.

Platform-native fan funding
Native features keep support within the platform’s monetization system and use platform-specific eligibility and terms. YouTube says, “Fan funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools.” Super Chat is a paid message-highlight feature, Super Thanks offers paid animation and message highlighting, and channel memberships are recurring payments tied to member perks. Twitch’s May 13, 2026 “Monetization for All” announcement describes access and onboarding milestones, but it does not mean every creator automatically has every monetization feature or payout available. Check the current program status in your account. Read Twitch’s announcement.

Recurring support
Memberships can complement one-time tips when you have a clear, sustainable member benefit. Patreon’s September 11, 2026 fee guide says creators whose pages were published after August 4, 2025 use the standard 10% plan, plus applicable taxes and payment-processing fees. Existing-page treatment has caveats, so verify the plan that applies to your page in Patreon’s current creator-fees guide.
Set up a third-party tip page and alert
- Check eligibility and payment access. Before building the setup around a service, confirm that you can create an account, connect a payout method in your country, and receive payments in a currency and method your viewers can use. Review account privacy settings as well. Streamlabs’ May 20, 2026 guide recommends a PayPal Business account to help keep personal details hidden from viewers; confirm the effect of your own account settings and local availability in its guide.
- Connect the processor and customize the page. Follow the service’s current account instructions, then set any available amount guidance and message controls. Make the purpose clear: say whether support is voluntary and whether it is connected to a promised benefit. StreamElements’ terms say tips are not payments for goods or services. Do not describe a payment as tax-deductible or legally a donation unless you have jurisdiction-specific grounds to do so.
- Put the link where viewers can find it. Add the tip-page link to your channel panels or stream description, and mention it briefly on stream without implying that viewers must pay. Make sure the destination is the actual payment page and not just a service homepage.
- Add the alert widget to your streaming layout. In the tip service, configure its alert widget, then add it to your streaming setup as a browser source or overlay using the service’s current directions. Set the visual and audio behavior you want, and review available message moderation or filtering controls so an audience-submitted message does not appear unchecked. - Decide how you will handle alerts live. If an alert is inappropriate, distracting, or arrives at a bad moment, use the service’s controls to manage it. A Stream Deck is optional: Elgato documents actions to mute, pause, and skip Streamlabs alerts, but the hardware neither collects payments nor creates alerts. See Elgato’s integration guide.
Check the fee and eligibility details before choosing
“No platform cut” is not the same as “no fees.” Streamlabs says it takes no cut of tips but excludes standard credit-card processing fees. StreamElements says it does not add a tipping fee, while payment-provider fees may apply. The total can depend on processor, payment method, location, currency conversion, and account terms; check the current disclosures for your route before relying on a headline fee claim. Eligibility can be narrower than the payment-page marketing suggests. StreamElements’ published SE.Pay requirements include being at least 18, having a Twitch or YouTube channel with over 100 followers or subscribers, streaming consistently in recent months, enabling PayPal, and having a bank account in an eligible country. Keep tips, platform payments, and benefits clearly labeled
- Call a third-party payment a tip or voluntary support, not a platform-native donation feature.
- Describe a membership as recurring support with stated perks, and make clear what the benefit is.
- Use YouTube’s terminology for Super Chat, Super Thanks, and memberships rather than presenting them as direct payments to a tip page.
- Do not promise an alert will increase contributions or that a given stream will earn a particular amount. The services’ setup documentation does not establish donation or conversion benchmarks.
