Sony documents two ways to get started with cellular service: insert a physical SIM and turn on the phone, or turn it on and configure an eSIM. The model guide has separate instructions for inserting a SIM card and microSD card and configuring an eSIM.

Sony establishes both startup routes, but does not establish that every carrier supports eSIM on every variant. If you are unsure, verify compatibility with your carrier before relying on eSIM.
Charge the phone before setup if needed
Sony says the battery may not have enough charge when you buy the phone and that a charger is not included in the package. If you do not already have compatible charging equipment, Sony says most USB power adapters and a USB Type-C cable can power the device; it does not identify a particular third-party adapter as required or preferred. The rechargeable battery is embedded. Sony says replacement should be handled by an authorized Sony service partner and warns against opening the device yourself.
Check for software updates
Once the phone is online, check whether an update is available. Sony’s general Xperia guidance recommends checking over Wi-Fi, keeping the phone charged, and freeing internal storage if an update notification does not appear. The precise Settings path can vary by Android version and device configuration, so use the phone’s own update screen or Sony’s software update guidance rather than assuming a menu path from another Xperia generation.

Use the Help Guide’s Home screen topic for model-specific instructions on arranging the Xperia 10 VIII. Menu names and available options can differ by software version, so follow the steps shown for your device.

Sony describes Rewards & Pay as a shortcut to frequently used payment and rewards apps. Quickly double-press the power button to open it. Adjust display, navigation, and accessibility
Open Settings → Accessibility and look for the controls that matter to you. Sony’s Android 16 accessibility guidance lists TalkBack, font and display size, bold text, color adjustments, dark theme, magnification, navigation mode, one-hand mode, and vibration and haptics. Some features require an app, and availability varies by product and Android version. Older Android versions may use different labels or paths; the Android 11–14 guidance is not proof that those exact menus appear on your Xperia 10 VIII.
