To connect a robot vacuum, install the manufacturer’s official app, add the exact model, select a Wi-Fi network the vacuum supports, enter that network’s password, and follow the app’s pairing prompts. The screens and pairing method vary by model: some use Bluetooth discovery, while others ask you to connect briefly to the vacuum’s temporary Wi-Fi network.
Before you start
- Find the exact model’s Wi-Fi requirements. Many robot vacuums support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but do not assume that is universal. Roborock says its devices do not support 5 GHz; iRobot says some models do not; ECOVACS’s global setup guidance calls for an enabled 2.4 GHz signal. Check your model’s current instructions before changing router settings. See Roborock’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance, iRobot’s setup guide, and the ECOVACS global FAQ.
- Install the official app. Use the app named in the vacuum’s manual or manufacturer support page. Sign in or create an account if the app asks.
- Power the vacuum. Put it on its dock or otherwise make sure it is switched on and charged.
- Prepare your phone. Connect it to your home Wi-Fi and enable Bluetooth if the app requests it. Allow permissions the setup flow needs, such as local network access or location. ECOVACS lists phone internet access, Bluetooth, and requested app permissions among its preparation steps.
- Have the home network name and password ready. During pairing, the phone may temporarily connect to a network broadcast by the vacuum. That is an intermediate step, not the home network you ultimately want the vacuum to use.
Connect the vacuum using its app
- Open the app’s add-device flow. Look for Add Device, Add Robot, a plus icon, or the equivalent. Select the correct model or product family when prompted. iRobot’s app searches for nearby products or guides you through selecting a product; Roborock’s instructions begin from its add-device flow.
- Put the vacuum in pairing mode when asked. Follow the on-screen instructions for your model. The app may ask you to press a button on the robot, wait for a Wi-Fi indicator, or use another discovery method. Button sequences are not universal.
- Select your home Wi-Fi network and enter its password. Check the network name (SSID) carefully and choose a band supported by the vacuum. If the phone briefly needs to join the vacuum’s own temporary network, follow the prompt, then return to the app. For example, Roborock’s iOS guide describes connecting to a network named
roborock-vacuum-xxxxduring setup; the home network and password are entered separately. - Keep the app open and finish the prompts. Wait for the app to confirm setup and check the robot’s indicator or status as described in the model’s instructions. If setup fails, use the troubleshooting steps below rather than repeating an unrelated button sequence.
For step-by-step brand instructions, see iRobot setup, Roborock setup on iOS, Roborock setup on Android, and the ECOVACS global FAQ. App screens can change, so follow the current prompts for your model.

What differs between brands
iRobot
The app searches for nearby products or lets you select a robot family, then shows model-specific setup steps. Some iRobot models do not support 5 GHz. The guide describes app-guided discovery using a robot button for certain newer models and distinguishes that process from older-model setup, so use the instructions shown for your exact robot rather than applying one button sequence to every Roomba. iRobot setup instructions

The iOS guide has you select the home Wi-Fi network and password, then connect briefly to the robot’s temporary Wi-Fi network, shown in the guide as roborock-vacuum-xxxx. It describes a solid Wi-Fi indicator as confirmation of a successful connection. The Android guide uses device discovery, location permission, and home Wi-Fi selection. ECOVACS
The global FAQ recommends the ECOVACS HOME app, an available 2.4 GHz signal, phone internet access, Bluetooth, and requested permissions. It also describes AP configuration mode as an alternative if Bluetooth search does not find the robot. A separate Singapore support page says the models it covers support only 2.4 GHz and not enterprise networks; that is regional and model-specific guidance, not a specification for every DEEBOT. The app cannot find the vacuum
- Check that the robot is powered on and in the pairing mode specified in its instructions.
- Enable Bluetooth and grant requested permissions if the app uses them for discovery.
- Restart the add-device flow and select the right model. ECOVACS describes AP configuration mode as an alternative when Bluetooth search does not find the robot; availability and steps depend on the model.

Your Wi-Fi network is missing or rejected
- Confirm that the selected network uses a band supported by your exact vacuum. Roborock says its devices do not support 5 GHz, while support differs among models and brands.
- Make sure the home network is visible during setup. ECOVACS’s global FAQ advises against using a hidden Wi-Fi network for initial connection.
- Check the router’s security mode against the robot’s instructions. Roborock says WEP is unsupported and advises WPA or WPA2.
Do not change router settings based on another model’s instructions. Check the manufacturer’s current guidance first: Roborock troubleshooting and the ECOVACS global FAQ.

The password is rejected or pairing does not finish
- Re-enter the home router’s password carefully and verify that you selected the right SSID. Do not enter the temporary robot-network name as your home network credentials.
- Roborock suggests removing special characters from the network name or password as a troubleshooting option. Treat this as that vendor’s suggestion, not a universal cause or required change.
- Roborock also suggests disabling VPN or cellular data during setup. Retry with those disabled if the app’s instructions or connection problem point to them.

The vacuum used to connect but now appears offline
Use the app’s reconnect or change-Wi-Fi option first. iRobot recommends restarting the robot, router, and phone if reconnecting does not work, then trying again through the app. Other brands may have different recovery steps, so use their support flow. iRobot Wi-Fi troubleshooting
