Put the monitor directly in front of you, at least 20 inches away, with its top line at or below eye level. Then adjust the desk, keyboard, mouse, and screen together, and vary your posture and tasks rather than standing in one position all day. These are OSHA recommendations to help minimize awkward posture, not a guarantee against pain or injury.
1. Set the desk height around your arms
Adjust the work surface so you can use the keyboard with relaxed shoulders, elbows close to your body, and forearms and hands free of awkward angles. Aim for hands, wrists, and forearms to be straight, aligned, and roughly parallel to the floor. Keep your head balanced and facing forward.

A height-adjustable desk makes it easier to find a workable position. OSHA describes under-desk leg clearance as generally 20–28 inches (50–72 cm) high; treat that as workstation guidance, not a guarantee that a particular desk will fit every person. See OSHA’s computer workstation guidance.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2. Keep the keyboard and mouse within easy reach
Place the keyboard directly in front of you and the mouse beside it, close enough that you do not have to reach outward. Your elbows should remain near your sides and your wrists should line up with your forearms while you work. If you cannot achieve a suitable keyboard height by adjusting the desk, OSHA says an adjustable keyboard tray may help. Choose one with room for both keyboard and mouse and enough clearance for your legs and feet.

3. Position the monitor to avoid looking up or down
Center the monitor directly ahead, at least 20 inches from your eyes, with the top line of the screen at or below eye level. Adjust the screen for clear viewing without tilting your head up or down. OSHA presents 20 inches as a recommendation, not a guarantee of an ideal viewing distance for every person. A monitor stand or adjustable arm is useful only if it helps you reach this position. Monitor placement should be considered alongside the desk and keyboard, rather than adjusted in isolation. See OSHA’s monitor setup guidance.
4. Check the setup in both standing and seated positions
A desk that works while standing may not work when you sit. Check that your shoulders, elbows, wrists, and screen position remain comfortable in each mode. During seated periods, your feet should be supported; if they do not rest on the floor and the desk height is not adjustable, OSHA identifies a footrest as an option. If you use an adjustable keyboard tray, confirm that it still leaves enough leg and foot clearance. OSHA’s workstation component guidance covers the relationships among desk, keyboard, chair, and other components.

5. Alternate positions and tasks
Make it possible to alternate sitting and standing, switch keyboard work with other activities, or take brief recovery pauses. OSHA’s evaluation checklist supports varying work position and activity, but its cited guidance does not set one universal sit/stand timing schedule. Use a change in comfort or task as a prompt to move rather than treating standing as a fixed-duration prescription. See the OSHA workstation evaluation checklist.

6. Use wrist supports cautiously
A wrist or palm support is optional, not a substitute for getting the keyboard height and wrist alignment right. If you use one, let your hands move freely above it while typing; the support should contact the heel of your palm when you are resting. OSHA cautions that leaning on support while typing can restrict wrist movement or contribute to awkward posture. See OSHA’s wrist-rest guidance.
