Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To create a schedule for your child in iOS 27, open Settings > Family > [child’s name] > Screen Time Schedule on your iPhone. Turn on Schedule, tap Add Schedule, choose the days, then set the time windows. The updated Family Sharing controls require version 27 or later on the devices in the family group using these features.
Before you set up the schedule
Check that every device in your Family Sharing group is updated to version 27 or later if you want to manage the new Screen Time Schedules and Time Allowances through Family settings. If you cannot update all the family devices, Apple says you can keep using the earlier Screen Time controls or configure controls directly on your child’s device. See Apple’s parental controls setup guide for the available approaches.

Create a recurring schedule from your iPhone
- Open your child’s settings. On the parent’s iPhone, go to Settings > Family, then tap your child’s name.
- Open Screen Time Schedule. Tap Screen Time Schedule and turn on Schedule.
- Add the schedule. Tap Add Schedule, select the days it should apply to, and confirm.
- Set the time windows. Tap a window to edit its name and start or stop time. You can make separate schedules for weekdays and weekends or use windows that fit your family’s routine. Apple’s examples include Before School, School, and After School, and you can create custom routines. The steps and controls are documented in Apple’s iPhone guide to Screen Time Schedules and Time Allowances and its family setup guide.
What the schedule controls—and what it does not
In the version 27 interface, Schedules determine when apps are available. Time Allowances set how long a child can use apps across categories. The pause outside permitted windows is the behavior that older Screen Time instructions describe as Downtime; it is now incorporated into the child’s daily schedule. These are different controls, so a schedule is not a limit on total time spent in a category.

Keep selected apps and contacts available
Review Always Allowed so you know which apps and contacts remain accessible when other apps are paused or limited. Apple lists FaceTime, Maps, Phone, and Messages as examples allowed by default. You can choose what remains available in the child’s Screen Time settings; see Apple’s guide to making a schedule.

Change the schedule for one day
If the usual routine does not fit a particular day, Apple’s parental controls let you quickly pause use, allow unlimited use, or change that day’s schedule from Screen Time settings. Use those one-day options rather than changing a recurring schedule if you only need a temporary adjustment. The available parent controls are described in Apple’s setup guide.
If you see Downtime instead
Some devices may still show the older Screen Time interface. In that version, Apple’s documented route is Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, where you choose Every Day or Customize Days and set start and end times. This is the older Downtime path, not the version 27 Family menu path. Apple notes that, with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot be opened during downtime and appear dimmed with an hourglass icon. Refer to Apple’s older Downtime instructions if that is the interface on your device.
