How to Set Up a Prerecorded YouTube Live Stream with Restream

Schedule a finished video as a YouTube Live event in Restream: connect your channel, choose Pre-recorded livestream, set the event details, and monitor playback.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To schedule a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live event with Restream, connect your YouTube channel, create a Pre-recorded livestream, choose or upload a video, fill in the event details, select YouTube, and create the event. Restream says it starts automatically at the scheduled time, even if you are offline. You do not need to start an encoder for this workflow. Restream’s setup instructions use the label “Pre-recorded livestream.”

Before you schedule the event

  • Enable YouTube live streaming. Restream says a channel must be phone-verified and then wait 24 hours before its first live stream. Check the channel’s current YouTube eligibility and live-streaming status before scheduling. Restream’s YouTube connection guide
  • Use an account that owns the channel. Restream says the person connecting the channel must be its owner, not only a manager or editor.
  • Have the finished video ready. The prerecorded-event flow uses a selected or uploaded video; it is not a camera or microphone broadcast.
  • Check your available upload and storage allowance. Restream says video size and storage limits depend on the applicable add-on tier. Confirm the current limit in your account before uploading. Restream’s Upload & Stream overview

Schedule a prerecorded YouTube Live stream in Restream

  1. Connect the right YouTube channel

From the Restream home screen, open Channels, choose Add New, select YouTube, then choose the Google account associated with the intended channel and authorize access. If you have more than one Google account or channel, verify the selection before continuing. The connecting account needs channel-owner access, and YouTube live streaming must be enabled. 2. Create a prerecorded livestream

Click + New Stream, select Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video. Pick a video already in Uploads or Recordings, or upload one from your computer or mobile device. Restream’s recorded-video guidance describes this as an Upload & Stream workflow. Create a prerecorded event

  3. Enter the event details

Set the event title, description, scheduled date, and time. Restream also documents optional looping of the video, an advance event post, and a custom thumbnail. If you enable looping, the documented limit is up to 10 repetitions; this is a loop count, not an unlimited replay setting. Review the selected time zone and start time carefully so the event is scheduled for the intended moment. Restream’s event setup guide

  4. Select YouTube and create the event

Turn on the connected YouTube channel as the destination, then choose Create Event. Confirm the destination and schedule before submitting. Restream says the prerecorded video starts automatically at the scheduled time, including when you are offline; you do not need to launch streaming software or click a separate encoder “Go live” button for this path. Restream’s prerecorded-event instructions

  5. Monitor the event while it plays

During playback, open the event from the Restream home screen to view the stream and interact with chat. Before the start, check the selected video, YouTube destination, event title and description, and scheduled time. Restream’s guide

Prerecorded event or encoder-based live stream?

Choose based on whether the video is already finished or the event needs a live feed. These are different workflows, and the prerecorded-event setup does not require the encoder settings below.

Source A finished video selected or uploaded in Restream A live feed sent from an encoder
How it begins Restream says it starts automatically at the scheduled time Send the feed to YouTube, check the Live Control Room preview, then click Go live
Stream key and URL Not needed for the documented prerecorded workflow Used by the encoder to send the live feed to YouTube
When it fits The content is finished and should air on a schedule while you can be offline The event must send a live feed from an encoder

YouTube’s encoder procedure uses a stream URL and key, a preview in Live Control Room, and a manual Go live step. Do not follow those encoder instructions as if they were prerequisites for scheduling a prerecorded video. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder

Encoder settings, only if you are sending a live feed

The settings in this section are compatibility guidance for an encoder or source-production workflow—not settings you must configure to upload and schedule a prerecorded event. Restream’s YouTube integration page lists H.264 video, 240p through 2160p resolution, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), a recommended two-second keyframe interval with four seconds as the maximum, AAC or MP3 audio, and 44.1 kHz stereo or 48 kHz 5.1 sample rates. It lists 128 Kbps stereo or 384 Kbps 5.1 audio. Restream’s YouTube integration guidance

YouTube separately publishes bitrate ranges by codec, resolution, and frame rate, and recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion where supported. Check its current table for the specific output you plan to send; the correct bitrate depends on those settings. YouTube: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

For planned encoder streams, YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking the preview. It advises setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting them at least 15 minutes in advance. Those lead times apply to encoder-based operations, not the Restream prerecorded flow; for a scheduled prerecorded event, verify the selected video and event details instead. Copyright, eligibility, and archives

Only schedule content you have the rights and permissions to broadcast. YouTube’s encoder help notes that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; Restream also states this limit for YouTube streams. That figure concerns archiving, not the maximum length of a prerecorded video upload or event. Check YouTube’s current rules and your channel’s status if eligibility or archiving affects your plans. Troubleshooting a scheduled prerecorded event

  • YouTube is missing from destinations: Open Channels and confirm the intended channel is connected. If the wrong Google account was selected, reconnect using the account that owns the channel. Check that live streaming is enabled for that channel.
  • You cannot enable live streaming yet: Restream says phone verification and a 24-hour wait are required before first-time YouTube streaming. Complete the channel’s current eligibility steps and allow the wait before relying on a scheduled event.
  • The video cannot be selected or uploaded: Check the file against your account’s current size and storage allowance; Restream says these depend on the add-on tier. Choose an available video or resolve the allowance issue in your account before creating the event.
  • The event is scheduled for the wrong time: Reopen the event details and verify its date, time, and intended time zone before the broadcast. Confirm the selected destination is the intended YouTube channel.
  • The event does not appear to be live at the expected time: Open the event from the Restream home screen and check its status, selected video, destination, and schedule. If you created an encoder-based stream by mistake, that is a separate flow: it requires an encoder feed and a Go live action.
  • Playback quality or timing is critical: Review the exact video selected and allow time to verify event details before creating the event. Encoder preview and advance-start recommendations do not substitute for checking the prerecorded asset.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live with uploaded videos, StreamNeo is an alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded video streaming to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start your free StreamNeo day.
