Then set your display to 1920×1080, update the system and tune each game to suit its performance. “Mini PC” describes many different configurations, so no single preset—or guaranteed frame rate—works for all of them.
1. Identify what your mini PC can do
Before changing settings or buying accessories, find the exact model number and check its documentation. Record the processor or APU, graphics hardware, installed memory and module arrangement, storage, operating system, ports and supported display modes. Also check whether memory or storage can be upgraded and what the manufacturer says about power limits and ventilation.

Do not assume that a desktop processor’s gaming claims apply to a compact computer. For example, AMD’s Ryzen 8000G announcements describe desktop processors: its January 8, 2024 release pairs the Ryzen 7 8700G with Radeon 780M graphics and the Ryzen 5 8600G with Radeon 760M graphics. That does not establish that your mini PC uses either processor or has an upgradeable graphics slot. AMD’s Ryzen 8000G announcement is useful background, not a mini PC performance result.

Use an HDMI or DisplayPort connection that your mini PC supports, with a cable suited to the resolution and refresh rate you want. Check the computer’s documentation for the capabilities of the specific port; having an HDMI or DisplayPort connector does not by itself establish every supported refresh rate.

- Connect the display to a supported video output.
- Open your operating system’s display settings and select the display’s native resolution. For Full HD, choose 1920×1080.
- Select a refresh rate that both the display and the mini PC’s output support.
- In each game, begin at 1080p output, then adjust the quality preset, render scale or optional upscaling if the frame rate needs improvement.
Output resolution and graphics quality are separate choices. AMD’s published example, for instance, used 1080p output with low detail settings; it does not show that every system can run high settings at that resolution.
3. Update the operating system and graphics drivers
Install available operating-system updates, then install graphics and chipset drivers intended for the mini PC’s actual hardware. Prefer the mini PC maker’s support page when it supplies system-specific packages; otherwise use the relevant chip vendor’s official driver guidance.

If your system has Intel Arc discrete graphics, check Intel’s platform compatibility guidance and its Resizable BAR/Smart Access Memory requirements. Those checks apply to systems using Arc discrete graphics, not to every mini PC. 4. Check memory and available storage
Find out how much memory is installed, whether it is shared with integrated graphics, how it is arranged across modules or channels, and whether the manufacturer allows upgrades. Follow the mini PC maker’s specifications for compatible memory; do not buy a kit based only on another computer’s test configuration.

AMD’s December 2023 Ryzen 7 8700G test used 32 GB of DDR5-6400 memory installed as two 16 GB modules. That is a vendor test configuration, not a universal minimum, a promise of mini PC performance or proof that a particular mini PC accepts that memory. AMD’s test notes also list a Radeon 780M, an ASRock B650 Pro RS motherboard, a Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB NVMe SSD and Windows 11 Pro. AMD’s Ryzen 7 8700G product information and test notes identify the configuration and conditions.
Check that the drive has enough free space for the games you plan to install and update. The available evidence does not establish a universal storage-capacity target.

5. Tune a game for the mini PC you have
Start with one game you know you want to play. On a system using integrated graphics, begin with a conservative quality preset rather than assuming a high preset will run smoothly. Test a demanding scene—such as a busy match, crowded area or effects-heavy sequence—and make one change at a time so you can tell what helps.
- Set the game to 1920×1080 output and choose a conservative preset.
- Play or run a representative demanding scene; use the game’s benchmark or frame-rate counter if available.
- If performance is below your target, lower demanding quality options in steps. Compare render scale, shadows and effects, and keep texture quality within the system’s available memory.
- Try optional upscaling if the game offers it, then judge both image quality and frame rate on your display.
- Repeat the same scene after each change and settle on the balance you prefer.
Do not treat “60 FPS” as a result for an unspecified mini PC. A meaningful frame-rate claim needs the exact computer, game, settings and test method. AMD says Ryzen 8000G desktop processors with Radeon 700M graphics target 1080p gaming, but its cited 8700G game tests used low detail settings and were conducted in December 2023. They are vendor results for the listed desktop configuration, not independent benchmarks of a compact PC with potentially different cooling, memory, firmware or power limits.

6. Check cooling and sustained performance
Keep the mini PC’s ventilation openings unobstructed and follow its maker’s placement and operating guidance. During a longer session, pay attention to fan noise, temperature readings available from the manufacturer or system tools, and whether performance changes over time. There is no model-independent temperature threshold to apply to every mini PC; use the manufacturer’s limits and troubleshooting guidance for your device.
7. Add only the peripherals you need
A controller is optional: check that your chosen game supports one and that it is compatible with your operating system. A wired network connection can be useful if available, but local gaming does not have a universal network requirement established here.
If you are choosing a 1080p gaming monitor, first confirm the mini PC’s supported output resolution and refresh rate, then match those capabilities to the display. Consider extra memory only if the exact mini PC supports user upgrades and its manufacturer specifies compatible type, capacity and speed.
