How to Set Up a Logitech Webcam on Windows or Mac

Connect your Logitech webcam by USB, select it in your video app, and install G HUB only if your model supports controls you want.

To set up a Logitech webcam, connect it to your computer’s USB port, then choose it as the camera in your video-call app. Logitech says its webcams use built-in UVC driver support in Windows and macOS, so you generally don’t need to install a driver or Logitech Capture just to make calls. Install Logitech software only if you want camera controls supported by your specific model.

Connect the webcam and select it in your app

  1. Plug the webcam into a USB port on your Windows PC or Mac. Make sure the cable is fully seated. If you’re troubleshooting detection, connect it directly to the computer rather than through a hub or extender; Logitech notes that some hubs and extenders may not meet a camera’s power or specification needs. Logitech’s detection troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the connection and trying another USB port.
  2. Open the video-call or camera app you want to use. In its video or camera settings, select the Logitech webcam as the video source. The exact setting name and location depend on the app.
  3. Check the app’s preview. If you see the webcam’s image, setup is complete; you can adjust framing and other available settings in the app or with supported Logitech software.

Do you need Logitech software?

Not for ordinary video calls in most cases. Logitech describes its webcams as USB Video Class (UVC) devices with driver support built into Windows and macOS. Logitech’s Capture requirements article states: “You do not need Capture installed in order to use your webcam for video conferencing.”

For optional camera controls, Logitech says G HUB is the primary software for many of its camera devices, replacing Capture for those devices. Depending on the model, G HUB features can include filters, color adjustment, exposure, and zoom. Support varies, so check your webcam’s model-specific support page before installing software or expecting a particular control. Logitech’s G HUB camera controls guide describes the transition and available feature categories.

Logitech’s compatibility article says G HUB works with recent versions of Windows and macOS, but does not provide exact version numbers in the reviewed article text. Check the current G HUB download page and your webcam’s support page for current requirements. Capture’s older model and recording requirements are not universal webcam requirements.

If the webcam is not detected

  1. Check the physical connection. Confirm the webcam is plugged in securely. Try a different USB port, and connect directly to the computer instead of through a hub or extender.
  2. Close and reopen the app. Then check its camera settings again and select the Logitech webcam if another camera is selected.
  3. See whether the computer recognizes it. Logitech recommends checking Windows Device Manager or macOS System Report. The exact steps depend on your operating-system version and webcam model; use Logitech’s model-specific detection troubleshooting instructions.
  4. Test another computer if available. If the webcam is not recognized there either, consult the support page for that exact model for connection requirements and further troubleshooting.

Why G HUB camera settings may be grayed out

Some G HUB presets are not directly editable. Logitech’s guidance is to create a new camera mode for custom zoom, focus, or exposure settings, or create a new video filter for custom video settings. See Logitech’s camera controls and features guide for the available options; which controls appear depends on the camera and software support.

Check model-specific requirements

Logitech webcam models can differ in supported software and connection requirements. Before relying on a particular control or troubleshooting step, look up the exact model on Logitech Support and follow the instructions for your operating-system version. A USB webcam that works for basic video calls does not necessarily support every G HUB feature.
