The practical setup takes roughly 20–30 minutes when the files are already downloaded.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
This guide uses the Create build listed as 1.18.2-0.5.1.i on Modrinth (CurseForge file 5797603, titled “Create 1.18.2 v0.5.1i”). It also explains the Forge and Flywheel version conflicts that can otherwise cause an apparently correct installation to crash.

What you are building
A Create server is not a separate game edition. It is a normal Minecraft 1.18.2 dedicated server running the Forge mod loader, with the Create mod in the server’s mods directory. Every player joining must use a Forge 1.18.2 client with the same Create file.
| Component | Use for this setup | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.18.2 | Do not use a 1.20.1 installation with these files. |
| Mod loader | Forge for Minecraft 1.18.2 | Reports for Create 0.5.1.e point to the Forge 40.x line, but no official Forge version recommendation was retrieved. |
| Create | 1.18.2-0.5.1.i, or the matching 1.18.2 Forge file | CurseForge file 5797603 is titled “Create 1.18.2 v0.5.1i.” |
| Java | Java 17 or newer | Verify the Java actually used by the server with java -version. |
| Flywheel | Normally bundled by Create 0.5.1 | Older builds and some crash reports create a dependency exception; diagnose the actual error before adding a separate jar. |
Prepare the machine and files
Check Java before installing anything
Open a terminal or command prompt in the account that will run the server and enter:

- discover community creations in the new in-game store

java -version
For this modern Minecraft release, the setup guide used for this procedure specifies Java 17 or newer. If the command reports Java 8, install or select a Java 17 runtime and run the command again. If several Java installations are present, make sure the installer and the eventual launch command use the same Java 17 executable; checking one terminal while another program uses a different runtime is a common source of confusing errors.
Create a clean server directory
Make an empty folder dedicated to this server, such as Create-1.18.2-Server. Avoid placing it inside a synchronized cloud folder while you are installing: a partially written jar or world file can be locked or replaced during startup. Keep the folder path simple, and make sure the account running the server can read and write it.

Use the Forge downloads site, files.minecraftforge.net, select Minecraft 1.18.2, and download the installer for that game version. For Create, select the 1.18.2 Forge build. The Modrinth release number is 1.18.2-0.5.1.i; the corresponding CurseForge listing is file 5797603. A file labelled 1.20.1, NeoForge, or another Minecraft version cannot substitute for the 1.18.2 Forge jar.
Save the downloaded files somewhere you can identify later. Do not rename a mod into a different version number: the filename is useful evidence when you are comparing a server crash with the client installation.

Install the Forge server
- Run the Forge installer with Java 17. Open the installer jar. If your operating system asks which application should open it, choose the Java 17 runtime rather than a compressed-file utility.
- Choose the server installation option. Select the option that installs a server, browse to the empty folder you created, and confirm. The installer downloads Forge libraries into that directory; leave it running until it reports completion.
- Inspect the generated files. You should see Forge launch files, libraries, and a server jar or launch script. The exact jar name varies with the installer build, so do not type a guessed filename into a permanent script yet.
- Start the server once. Use the launch script or the Forge jar produced by the installer. The first run commonly stops with an EULA message and creates
eula.txt. This first stop is expected; it is not a mod failure. - Accept the EULA. Open
eula.txt, read the agreement, change the setting toeula=true, save the file, and close it. The server will not continue while it remainsfalse. - Start it again. Let Forge finish loading before closing the window. A successful first boot creates the normal server directories, including
modsand a world directory.
Example launch command
The setup guide’s example command allocates 4 GB initially and permits up to 8 GB:
java -Xms4G -Xmx8G -jar forge-*.jar nogui
Replace forge-*.jar with the actual server jar name if your shell does not expand wildcards. On systems where the installer generated a launch script, use that script instead of guessing the jar; it may include Forge’s required arguments. The 4 GB/8 GB values are an example starting configuration, not a promise that every world or player count needs exactly that amount.
Add Create to the server
Put the correct jar in the correct folder
- Stop the server cleanly and wait for the process to exit.
- Open the server’s
modsfolder. If it was not created, start Forge once more and let it finish, then stop it. - Copy the 1.18.2 Forge Create jar into
mods. Use the 0.5.1 release identified above, not a 1.20.1 or NeoForge download. - Do not add several Create versions. Remove older or duplicate Create jars so Forge cannot load two versions at once.
- Start the server and watch the console for the mod list and any dependency error. Stop it before replacing files if the boot fails.
For the first test, keep the installation minimal: Forge plus Create. Adding a large collection of unrelated mods makes it difficult to tell whether a failure comes from Create, Forge, Java, or another dependency.
Install the matching client
Each player needs Minecraft 1.18.2 with Forge for 1.18.2 and the same Create build used by the server. A client with a different Create patch, a different loader, or an unmodded profile will usually be rejected during the handshake or will fail while loading.

- Connect only after the dedicated server has finished loading. Use

If a player receives a “mismatched mods” or “missing mods” message, compare the three values in this order: Minecraft version, Forge version, and Create filename. Fix the first difference you find rather than copying random dependency jars.
Resolve the Forge-version ambiguity
Version labels surrounding 1.18.2 are inconsistent. GitHub reports from users running Create 0.5.1.e with Forge 40.2.10 point toward the Forge 40.x line for 1.18.2. Those reports are useful compatibility evidence, not an official Forge recommendation, so record the exact Forge installer version you choose and keep it consistent on the client and server.

A CurseForge 1.18.2 listing mentions a minimum Forge version of 47.1.43. Forge 47.x belongs to Minecraft 1.20.1, so that number conflicts with the listing’s 1.18.2 label and appears to be a copied metadata error. Do not treat 47.1.43 as a requirement for this server. If a download page presents a loader requirement that belongs to another Minecraft release, return to the file’s game-version and loader filters before installing.
Understand the Flywheel situation before adding it
Create’s CurseForge page states that, starting with Create 0.5.1, Flywheel no longer requires a separate installation. Other hosting documentation says older Create builds on Forge 1.18.2 or lower need Flywheel separately, and GitHub issue #5893 describes a 1.18.2 installation requesting a Flywheel version that does not exist. These statements cannot all be applied to every jar.

Use the selected Create jar and its description as the first authority:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Start with only Forge and Create 0.5.1. Do not install a random Flywheel file pre-emptively.
- If the jar’s description or contents show that Flywheel is bundled, leave a separate Flywheel jar out. Two copies can create duplicate-mod or version-conflict errors.
- If the crash log explicitly names Flywheel and a required version, check whether that exact version exists for Minecraft 1.18.2. Install it only when it is available and the error clearly requires it.
- If the log asks for a Flywheel version that does not exist, remove any manually added Flywheel jar and re-check that the Create download is the 1.18.2 Forge build. The nonexistent requirement is evidence of a mismatched or problematic file, not a reason to substitute a 1.20.1 library.
Startup failures and precise fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The server stops immediately with an EULA message | eula.txt still contains eula=false, or the file was saved in a different folder. |
Stop the process, edit the eula.txt beside the server files, set eula=true, save, and launch from that same directory. |
| “Unsupported class version” or Java-related errors | The installer or launcher is using an older Java runtime. | Run java -version in the launch environment, select Java 17, and rerun the installer or launch script. |
| Forge starts but Create is absent | The jar is in the wrong mods folder, has the wrong game version, or is not a Forge build. |
Stop the server, verify the path and filename, and replace it with the 1.18.2 Forge release. |
| “Mod file requires a newer/older version of Forge” | The loader and mod target different Minecraft or Forge lines. | Check the mod’s game-version filter, then select a compatible 1.18.2 Forge installer. Do not use the conflicting 47.x metadata as a 1.18.2 requirement. |
| Missing or nonexistent Flywheel version | A separate Flywheel jar is wrong, or the chosen Create file has a dependency/metadata problem. | Remove manually added Flywheel, verify the Create file, and follow only an exact version named by the crash log when that version is actually published. |
| Client is refused for mismatched mods | The client and server differ in Minecraft, Forge, or Create. | Make the client use the same three versions and remove duplicate mod jars. |
| The console closes before you can read the error | The launcher window exits on failure. | Run the launch command from an already-open terminal or use the generated script so the final lines remain visible. Save the complete crash report before changing files. |
Read the last meaningful error, not the first warning
Forge can print harmless warnings while it discovers mods. The useful line usually identifies a missing dependency, an incompatible loader, a Java class-version problem, or a specific jar. Record the named mod and version, then change one thing at a time. Replacing Forge, Create, and Flywheel simultaneously destroys the evidence needed to identify the cause.

Keep a recoverable copy of the world
Stop the server before copying or replacing the world and mod files. Keep at least one backup made while no world-save operation is running. Back up the world before updating Create or Forge, because a mod update can change block behavior or expose a compatibility problem.
Freeze the working versions
Write down the Minecraft version, Forge installer version, Create filename, Java version, and any additional mods in a plain text note beside the server. When a player reports a failure, this inventory lets you compare the client with the known-good server instead of relying on memory.

Use a dedicated account where possible
Run the server as a normal user with access only to its own directory rather than as an administrator or root account. This does not change Forge’s behavior, but it limits the damage a compromised mod or accidental command can cause outside the server folder.
Self-hosting time versus one-click hosting
The manual path is estimated at about 20–30 minutes once Java, Forge, and Create downloads are available. Hosting providers advertise one-click Forge installers that skip the local installer and EULA-file steps. If you use one, still select Minecraft 1.18.2, upload the 1.18.2 Forge Create jar, and verify the Java and loader versions shown by the host. A one-click panel does not make a 1.20.1 or NeoForge file compatible with this server.
Final preflight checklist
- Java:
java -versionreports Java 17 or newer in the environment that launches the server. - Forge: The installer and client profile are both for Minecraft 1.18.2; the selected Forge version is recorded.
- Create: The server contains one 1.18.2 Forge Create 0.5.1 jar, such as
1.18.2-0.5.1.i/ CurseForge file5797603. - EULA: The server’s own
eula.txtcontainseula=true. - Flywheel: No separate jar was added unless the exact Create file and crash log require an available 1.18.2 version.
- Client parity: Every player uses the same Minecraft, Forge, and Create versions.
- Recovery: The world is backed up and the working version list is written down before adding more mods or updating anything.
With those checks complete, restart the server, wait for Forge to finish loading, and connect from the matching client profile. If it fails, preserve the full log, identify the first version or dependency named in the final error, and correct that one mismatch before trying another change.
