This is a best-effort setup, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep a local recording if you need an archive.
Before you start
Confirm that your channel is eligible, choose the source you want to stream, and make sure the PC, power and internet connection can sustain the job.

- YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its listed minimum age for live streaming is 16.
- Use an encoder workflow if you are streaming pre-produced video, a screen, gameplay or another camera source. A webcam is optional and only needed when you want a camera image.
- Use a stable internet connection and test the stream for as long as practical before depending on it. YouTube’s guidance is general platform advice, not an India-specific guarantee about any ISP, power supply or PC.
- Keep a local recording backup if the footage matters. Do not assume a single YouTube stream lasting 24 hours will be archived.

- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live. Create a new stream or schedule one.
- In Live Control Room, find the stream URL and stream key. In your encoder, select its YouTube preset if available; otherwise, paste the URL into the server field and the key into the stream-key field.
- Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not share it publicly. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Start the encoder. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then check that the picture and audio are correct before selecting Go live.
- While live, watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and make sure your local recording file is growing. After ending the stream on YouTube, stop the encoder.

Choose encoder settings that fit your connection and PC
There is no single correct bitrate for every stream. It depends on resolution, frame rate and codec, as well as what the PC can encode reliably. YouTube says total streaming bitrate must stay within upload capacity and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Use the bitrate range for your chosen resolution, frame rate and codec in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guide.
- Protocol: YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection.
- Video codec: YouTube documents H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1. Your encoder and hardware must support the format you choose; platform support does not mean every PC can encode it.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as specified in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Frame rate: YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Select a rate your source and PC can sustain rather than choosing the maximum by default.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
Test with the same kind of motion and audio as the real stream. A static image can behave differently from moving footage, and a high setting that overloads the encoder or saturates upload capacity can make the stream unstable. Review YouTube’s stream-health status during the test.

Keep Windows awake while the encoder runs
Set the plugged-in sleep timeout
- On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.
- Set the plugged-in sleep timeout so the PC will not sleep during the planned stream. Screen-off timing is separate; the display can turn off if you do not need it lit.

Many laptops sleep when the lid closes. Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what closing the lid does; leave the lid open or set the plugged-in lid action so it does not put the PC to sleep. See Microsoft’s shutdown, sleep and hibernate guidance. Avoid blocking ventilation if you leave a laptop running for long periods.

What 24/7 means for YouTube archives and DVR
A stream that stays live for a day is not necessarily a replay that YouTube will save in full. YouTube’s setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while its archive guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Treat 12 hours as an archive risk threshold, not a promise that every shorter stream will be saved.
Very long streams may also have limited or unavailable DVR rewind. If a complete recording matters, record locally and verify that the file is being written. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that splitting a continuous broadcast into separate sessions will solve every archive or DVR limitation.

Continuity, testing and recovery
Keeping Windows awake only removes one possible interruption. Encoder failure, Windows updates, lost internet, power loss, overheating or other device-specific problems can still stop a consumer-PC stream. YouTube and the cited Windows guidance do not promise uninterrupted 24-hour operation for a particular PC or connection.

- Run a supervised test before relying on the setup, and check picture, sound and stream health.
- Confirm the local recording is being saved and that the destination has enough free space.
- Check plugged-in sleep and laptop lid behavior, then avoid changing power or encoder settings during the live run.
- If the feed drops, check the encoder, network, power and YouTube stream-health messages before restarting. Do not expose or reuse a compromised stream key.
Common problems and fixes

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a webcam for a 24/7 YouTube stream from a PC?
Yes. YouTube documents webcam streaming from a computer, but an encoder-based stream does not require a webcam unless you want a camera image.
Can I use this setup with a Windows version other than Windows 11?
The power-menu path here is for Windows 11. Menu names and options may differ on other Windows versions and devices.
