You can stream a 24/7 music channel to YouTube, but you cannot deliver lossless audio to viewers through YouTube’s documented live-ingest workflow. YouTube accepts compressed AAC or MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS and transcodes live streams for playback. Keep your lossless files or a local master if you need them; send YouTube a compatible encoded feed and describe the broadcast accurately.
What “lossless” means for a YouTube live channel
A lossless file such as WAV, FLAC, or ALAC can be your source, but that does not make the live stream heard by viewers lossless. YouTube’s published RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists AAC and MP3 for audio ingest, and YouTube transcodes live streams into playback formats. There is no documented lossless listener-delivery mode for this workflow. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and its LiveStreams API documentation describe the supported ingest path.

The practical goal is a clean, compatible feed—not a claim of lossless YouTube playback. Preserve your original files or create a separate lossless local recording if archival quality matters.

Choose the YouTube ingest path and audio settings
For most encoder workflows, use RTMP or the secure RTMPS option. HLS has separate requirements; do not assume settings for one protocol apply to the other.

| Ingest path | Documented audio support | Setting to use |
|---|---|---|
| RTMP/RTMPS | AAC or MP3 | For stereo, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. RTMPS is the recommended secure protocol. |
| HLS | AAC; one audio track | Follow the HLS-specific ingest guide; it specifies a single audio track. |
These are YouTube platform recommendations and compatibility requirements, not guarantees about perceived sound quality or lossless playback. See YouTube’s encoder settings and YouTube’s HLS ingest guide.
Set up the stream from source files to YouTube
- Prepare the music and rights. Make a playlist from material you are authorized to broadcast. Keep the source files in their original format if desired; the encoder output sent to YouTube still needs to use a supported codec.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- Configure the encoder’s stream destination. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings. Select RTMP/RTMPS or HLS according to your workflow and its documented requirements.
- Set compatible audio output. For RTMP/RTMPS, choose AAC or MP3; for stereo, use 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps as YouTube’s recommended starting settings. For HLS, use AAC with one audio track. Do not select FLAC, ALAC, or WAV on the assumption that lossless source media makes these valid YouTube live-ingest settings.
- Test before announcing the station. Start a private or otherwise suitable test stream, check the audio path and stream health in Live Control Room, and confirm the playlist behaves as intended. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health in its encoder guidance.
- Keep a separate archival master if needed. Configure local recording separately if you need a lossless archive. OBS discusses lossless audio in the context of local recording, which is distinct from streaming audio formats; see the OBS Audio/Video Formats Guide.
Clear music rights and prepare for Content ID
A track being available to buy or stream personally does not establish permission to broadcast it continuously on a YouTube channel. YouTube’s livestream terms make the channel provider responsible for obtaining all necessary rights for live content, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Review the terms at YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and confirm that the permission you obtain covers your actual use, territories, and duration.

Even a licensed track can trigger a live interruption if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Before going live, ask the rights holder or licensing provider whether allowlisting is needed and obtain confirmation; retain the licence and related correspondence. YouTube explains live scanning and potential interruption in its copyright guidance for live streams.
Plan the 24/7 stream lifecycle
A 24/7 station needs an operating plan as well as an encoder. YouTube’s encoder workflow guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single uninterrupted stream intended to run all day will become one complete archive, or that YouTube guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. Plan how you will end, restart, and replace broadcasts, and check stream status in Live Control Room. The platform documentation describes the stream workflow but does not establish a guaranteed restart interval or a universal always-on architecture. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Before launch checklist
- Confirm your encoder sends a supported audio codec for the selected ingest path.
- Verify the stereo sample rate and bitrate against YouTube’s recommendations.
- Test the stream and monitor its health rather than relying only on the encoder’s local status.
- Confirm music permissions and any Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder.
- Decide who or what will monitor stream status and manage planned endings and restarts.
- Use separate local recording if you need to retain a lossless master.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports an unsupported audio codec | The encoder is sending an audio format YouTube does not accept for that ingest path. | For RTMP/RTMPS, set AAC or MP3. For HLS, use AAC and one audio track. Review the relevant LiveStreams API or HLS guide. |
| The stream reports multiple audio streams when HLS is used | HLS ingest specifies one audio track. | Configure the encoder to send a single audio track and verify the outgoing stream. |
| Music interrupts the live broadcast | Rights may be missing, or a licensed track may not be allowlisted for the channel. | Contact the relevant rights owner, verify the licence covers this broadcast, and resolve Content ID allowlisting before resuming. |
| The stream ends or its archive is incomplete | A continuous all-day broadcast should not be treated as one automatically archived video; automatic archiving is documented for streams under 12 hours. | Check Live Control Room, plan explicit stream endings and restarts, and retain a separate local recording if an archive is required. |
