Set the page’s viewport with page.setViewport() before navigating, then capture it with page.screenshot(). The width and height are CSS pixels; use deviceScaleFactor in the same viewport object to control the emulated rendering scale.
Set the viewport and scale factor
This runnable example opens a browser, sets a 1280 × 720 CSS-pixel viewport at a device scale factor of 2, loads a page, and saves a PNG screenshot:

The viewport values control the page’s layout dimensions in CSS pixels; deviceScaleFactor sets the emulated device scale factor. Its documented default is 1. A factor of 2 requests rendering at twice that scale, which is useful when you want a higher-density screenshot. Puppeteer Viewport interface
Why the order matters
Call page.setViewport() before page.goto() when you need the first render to use the target dimensions. Some sites respond unexpectedly to viewport changes, and changing isMobile or hasTouch can cause a reload in some cases. Puppeteer Page.setViewport() method

Choose what the screenshot includes
Viewport configuration and screenshot extent are separate choices. If you omit both fullPage and clip, the screenshot covers the current viewport. Use fullPage: true to request the full page, or clip to capture a rectangle.

Control output format and background
The screenshot options determine how the capture is saved, independently of the viewport:
pathwrites the file; without it, the screenshot is not saved to disk. When a path is supplied, its extension determines the image type.typeselects the format and defaults to PNG.qualityapplies to supported lossy formats, not PNG.omitBackgrounddefaults tofalse; set it totruewhen you want to omit the default background.fromSurfacedefaults totrue.

Set a default viewport for new pages
If every page opened through a connection should use the same default, configure defaultViewport in the connection options. Puppeteer documents its default as 800 × 600 CSS pixels. Set it to null to disable that default viewport behavior. For one-off captures or pages with different dimensions, page.setViewport() is the direct page-level option; multiple pages in one browser can each have their own viewport. Common mistakes and fixes
- The layout does not match the requested size: confirm that you set
widthandheightbefore navigation. These dimensions are CSS pixels, not physical monitor pixels. - The image is not saved: supply a
pathtopage.screenshot(). Without one, Puppeteer does not save the image to disk. - The screenshot includes only the visible viewport: add
fullPage: truefor a full-page capture, or useclipfor a specific rectangle. - Changing the viewport causes unexpected site behavior: set it before navigation. Be especially mindful when changing mobile or touch emulation settings, which can trigger a reload in some cases.
- A quality setting has no effect:
qualitydoes not apply to PNG; use a supported lossy format if you need that option.
