Listen to the playlist output before it reaches the encoder; if it is already silent at a song boundary, fix playback or the audio files. If that output is continuous, check the encoder, connection and YouTube ingestion instead. A track-transition gap and a dropped stream segment can sound alike to a viewer, but need different fixes.
Find where the silence starts
Trace the sound in order: playlist player, audio presented to the encoder, encoder output, then the stream viewers hear. The distinction is a practical diagnostic, not a formal YouTube troubleshooting procedure.

- Listen to the playlist before encoding. Monitor or record its output across several song changes. If the silence is present there, the cause is upstream of YouTube.
- Check the signal going into the encoder. If the playlist output is continuous but the encoder input is not, inspect the audio routing, player behavior and any transitions or pauses in the playout setup.
- Check encoder status and the viewer-side stream. If sound reaches the encoder continuously but disappears for viewers, look for connection instability, encoder errors or failed media delivery.
- Test a full playlist cycle and a forced network interruption. Verify both song transitions and recovery before relying on the setup unattended.
Do not infer that a stream is healthy just because the schedule says “24/7.” Monitor the audio that reaches the encoder and the stream viewers receive, and arrange alerts for silence or encoder/network failure. The reviewed platform documentation does not specify a particular silence-detection tool.

If the gap is between songs in the playlist
When silence is audible before encoding, focus on the playout source rather than YouTube. Use a player or playlist system that supports continuous or gapless playback, then verify its behavior with the actual files and transitions you plan to broadcast. No source cited here establishes that a particular OBS playlist configuration guarantees gapless playback.

- Inspect the end of one file and the beginning of the next. A quiet tail, long fade, or silence embedded in either recording can sound like a player gap.
- Review playlist transition behavior for pauses, fades or other intentional spacing. Change only the setting that matches what you hear, then listen to the result before encoding.
- Check that playback does not pause while the next file loads, and that the playlist advances as expected through a complete cycle.
- Listen to the actual signal routed to the encoder, not just a separate preview that might bypass the broadcast audio path.
A clean transition depends on the source files and the player’s handoff between them. Changing YouTube’s ingestion protocol will not remove silence that is already present in the playlist output.
If the playlist is continuous but viewers hear a gap
Move downstream through the encoder and delivery path. Check encoder status and logs, connection stability, and whether the encoder continues to send audio when the viewer-side stream goes quiet. YouTube’s documentation describes different ingestion protocols; their segment requirements are delivery constraints, not settings that make song transitions gapless.

For DASH ingestion
YouTube says a failed media-segment PUT corresponds to a gap in the video stream. Its DASH guidance recommends retrying failed uploads with randomized binary exponential backoff and signaling the encoder operator when failures repeat. These HTTP upload instructions apply to DASH systems; do not assume they are settings for a different encoder protocol. See YouTube’s DASH ingestion guidance.

YouTube’s HLS guide specifies muxed audio and video in M2TS, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, and one audio track. It describes media segments lasting one to four seconds. Those are ingestion requirements, not a cure for silence between songs. YouTube Help explains that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP; choose a protocol compatible with the encoder and the latency your use case needs, not as a presumed fix for source-level gaps. Keep the broadcast recoverable
Review the lifecycle settings for the YouTube broadcast and encoder you use, including what happens after a disconnect or prolonged loss of input. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. It also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that archive statement does not establish a maximum stream duration.
The OBS Project’s YouTube streaming guide says disabling auto-stop leaves open the possibility of reconnecting later to continue a scheduled broadcast. It also warns that a broadcast can eventually end after multiple hours without input. The guide is marked a work in progress, so confirm the current OBS and YouTube interface behavior before relying on a setting.

That OBS guide describes normal latency as having the least viewer buffering, while low and ultra-low latency are more exposed to buffering when ingestion has issues. For unattended radio, smooth playback may matter more than immediate audience interaction; choose latency according to your use case and test it with your setup.
Separate audio continuity from music rights
A track playing without gaps does not mean it is cleared for a livestream. YouTube may terminate streams or restrict public broadcasting for copyright violations, according to CamStreamer’s YouTube integration guidance. Having a recording or being able to play it does not by itself establish that you have livestream rights. Check that your music is licensed for the way you plan to broadcast it.
